  1. Fast moving objects (for example, when I visually track another jet in a head on pass) leave a ghost image behind them in the Valve Index. I'm currently set at 90Hz. Will going up to 120Hz fix this? Or is it a limitation of the tech/display? I already know, keeping up with 120Hz is going to be impossible on my hardware.
  2. I've got no problem with people doing testing and providing helpful feedback. I'm not saying switch to stable, I'm not on stable either. Just don't be on beta and be disgruntled and point fingers when everything's not perfect. It's disrespectful and ungrateful when people say, "thanks I can't play anymore" or "ED screwed things up". That's not helpful to anyone and won't make the developers feel good about all the hours they've put in to crafting this fine simulation.
  3. Again, people not appreciating that they're on open beta. "ED ruined my game. I can't play anymore" "Yes, you can. Run stable" (It's still on 2.7 and just as good as what you were happily enjoying without complaint a few weeks ago). You can't test all the fancy bells and whistles of such complex software development and expect a highly polished experience.
  4. I've been using a MS Sidewinder FFB 2 for years now. I do own Virpil HOTAS also. Recently, I bought the Gladiator NXT EVO with the F-14 grip because, (a) I wanted a portable all-in-one solution and (b) because I've been spending more time in the Tomcat recently. My Tomcat experience has improved considerably with the new controller. Rather than get my sidewinder back out for using the Apache I've been trying to use the non-FFB Gladiator and all I can say is, it's not working for me anymore. I've tried the different trimmer options and I'm just not happy flying a helicopter without the FFB. The central position trimmer option, you get no response from time to time when don't fully recenter. And you lose track of where your stick and pedals are trimmed to. And the no springs, no FFB option, you literally cannot take your hand off the stick without pitching up. ED have given us the software. Now someone (VKB or Virpil?) needs to offer suitable hardware. And we don't all want a big industrial unit only suitable for home cockpit builds.
  5. Can someone list clearly the criteria that must be met for myself and human RIO to talk in multiplayer? My friend jumped in the F-14 with me yesterday (not often we both have time) and it was just 30 mins of frustration wondering why we couldn't talk. It wasn't an SRS server (but I would presume SRS is not mandatory). Audio options seemed set ok. The aircraft had power and the ICS was set to Hot Mic. I also tried holding the ICS comms button (Right-shift + /). Tried the A button, normally used to talk to Jester. Still nothing. My friend confirmed he'd done likewise, checked his settings etc. We could work around by using a private Discord channel but, we're trying to do things properly; using the sim as it should be used.
  6. I also just had a freeze in the F-14 and had to alt-tab out, then close with task manager. Task manager reported not responding. I was coming in to land in the Case III instant action mission in Caucasus. I'd just had a wave off and had gone around for another approach when it happened. First one I can remember in the F-14 (and not had one in DCS for a very long time). My specs. MSI Vector GP76 i7-12700H RTX 3070 Ti (Driver 526.47) 32GB RAM Windows 11 (21H2)
  7. Would be great to have the SC animated crew, but with 70s/80s attire; it would be the finishing touch.
  8. This exactly, I'm buying better hardware every couple of years in the hope I can fly VR in DCS World, but I'm not catching up. Can we just stop with the visual fidelity advances for the next couple years (after you release the new weather system of course!) Would be interesting to compare framerate from an older build (say 3 years ago) with the latest.
  9. Word. Eagle Dynamics are the gift that keep on giving. I own a fair amount of content but I believe (if I was broke) I could still be entertaining myself with the free Su-25T if I really had to.
  10. I think most people just can't wait for the latest features and updates. I've always wanted to stay with stable. Stable makes even more sense in a competitive environment. I was perplexed when I couldn't find the multiplayer servers I wanted to join. Then discovered it was because they nearly all ran open beta. I don't have the disk space for two installs, so I've been dragged onto the open beta cart like everyone else.
  11. I know all this. But it's still unrealistic that both sides would have exactly the same equipment. Sure, include some F-14s on redfor and maybe a couple of Mi-8 on blufor (as a mock Mi-17). But both sides with F-18? Or both sides with Ka-50? Just doesn't work for me as a believable scenario. And you can still balance even when both sides have different aircraft. If you feel blufor has better fighters, give redfor more SAMs. If blufor has an advantage in tanks, give redfor more CAS slots. It creates a more unique challenge on the server. As a bonus, you can then remove labels and map icons and do some proper IFF. Well this is just how I feel about most servers, and you can just tell me, "run your own server, if you don't like what's on offer". Which is fine. I was just interested in why server admins were doing it this way (both sides have everything).
  12. Not sure, I fully buy into this when you account for the FC3 aircraft (Su-27 and MiG-29S) which can be operated by more casual players. Also, the Mi-24 now has R-60 which makes it dangerous against other helicopters and CAS aircraft.
  13. I don't find much time for multiplayer but when I do, I always try to find a server with realistic sides. As an example, F-** and AH-** on one side and MiG-**/Su-** and Mi-** on the other. But it seems this is not a popular choice amongst server administrators. I find the vast majority of servers have both units on both sides. I fully understand this sim is a sandbox and we can make completely fictional scenarios. I also understand that different countries operate the same aircraft. However, to me it seems (perhaps) lazy to just allow all units on both sides. It's also not very immersive. Can any server administrators shed light on why this happens?
  14. Yesterday, I took the Apache for a spin in VR (Valve Index). I normally run in 2D, only because my laptop 3070Ti/Headset combo just can't offer enough clarity and detail at smooth framerates (I have motion smoothing off as I don't like the artifacts). As I found with the Mi-8, the sense of depth perception allows you to instinctively throw the helicopter around with a whole new level of confidence and finesse. Landing and maneuvering, and (better still) targeting things with the monocle all suddenly feels "right". For short periods it's an amazing revelation. I'm a little envious of those with desktop rigs right now with fewer thermal/performance limits. Because I absolutely would invest in a 3090 and top CPU if I didn't work away. For a guy that grew up on early 90s sims, this module and sim as a whole, in VR, is all we could dream of. Thanks ED
  15. I'm a bit surprised ED have used British livery on a US Apache, especially in an instant action mission that comes with the module. Of course, there will always be someone that says, "wait a minute, this isn't <insert country> specification!"
  16. Pre-purchase this module, no questions. Have you thought about venturing into terrain? Because you're halfway to building the most epic Vietnam product bundle.
  17. Isn't this like comparing a cake in the oven with a cake out on display?
  18. I think more people will fly MP when George is fleshed out and more effective. I can handle the current flight model and don't crash anymore unless I get hit with something. I have a friend as a CPG but our gaming time doesn't often overlap.
  19. This is a good point. You can fly a jet with any joystick and have a decent 1:1 experience; you can choose from a wealth of Virpil or VKB products. The world is your oyster. With helicopter modules you need to compromise. You'll have to use software work-arounds to simulate how helicopter trim works or use a FFB stick (your options being the ancient MS FFB2 or a very expensive Brunner/Virpil combo) and as Hippo said, you need pedals as you'll struggle trying to use a twist grip. I'm using a MS FFB2 as I feel FFB is essential for the helicopter modules I own. The limitation (not enough hats and buttons) hasn't stopped me really enjoying the Apache though. For now, I've stopped flying everything else. I own the Super Carrier and F-14 and they're the only other modules I have installed. I will say, carriers feel very lifeless and bare without the deck crew which are more than just decorations. Following the hand signals is actually very useful and the way it's "meant to be".
  20. I'd be interested to know if the team is working to resolve this in the near future, and are we likely to wait weeks or months? If AI can see through clouds, the only fair thing to do when setting up a multiplayer server would be to a) disable clouds or b) disable AI.
  21. Being a former Royal Marines Commando, I had to give a like for this comment!
  22. My current gaming laptop (RTX 2070) is faulty and won't run anything graphics intensive. But when it worked, the F-14 was the most demanding module for me with no chance of playing it in VR (Index), whereas the FC3 modules were just about acceptable providing the map wasn't to busy. My next laptop (3070 Ti) is on order but won't get it for another couple of weeks. Pre-ordered this module on day 1 and really hoping it performs better than the F-14 and that the 3070 Ti gives me a nice uplift from the RTX 2070.
