Or, you are just transferring your wishes upon someone flying at an air show who is putting on a show. It was not SOP to make the Cat bow to a crowd at the end, but it was done at every airshow I saw an F-14 at. Big difference between fleet day-to-day flying and an airshow demonstration flight. Please dude, drop it. You have received your answer and been shown you can do it if you learn to fly. Stop answering every post, I beg you. End of rant//

I am curious about your source for sweeping wings forward for a merge? I have only read or heard the opposite as there is no danger of damaging anything mechanical trying to overriding the wing sweep schedule in that manner. Salute,

I get it sir, limitations of technology. Was more reminiscing, not complaining. I just loved the view down the nose. Salute, :punk:

Unfortunately it is near impossible from my playing with views to accurately replicate the real cockpit. I had the chance to sit in the Santa Rosa Tomcat and for me it fit like a glove. The view is amazing in the real kitty. It is not all windscreen frames and dash. You could easily see straight down the radome and see the ground in front and to the sides. Seeing around the seat seamed much easier too, but then again, I wasn't wearing flight gear nor under G loads :D. Switches and levers were in easy reach and gauges were easily readable as well. I can only dream of what their views were in flight. Salute, :punk:

Hmm, I have always been under the impression the A+ and B were the same models...just different nomenclature periods. Salute, :punk:

F14 left and right side horizontal panels angels? (SimPit build)
punk replied to PSYKOnz's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Long ago I remember reading it was 12 degrees. But I have not been able to find the source I read this from so take it with a grain of salt. Much info is in the referenced thread above, though not all. Look at post 202 for some pics and measurements of throttle quadrant. As far as the height of the Flaps handle, it is a little complex in that it comes up out of the base for ~0.5 - 0.75 in and bends outward and then sweeps rearward. The over all length of lever sticking out above the base is ~3 in. The highest point at the end of the lever is ~2 in. I took the flap handle itself off and put it somewhere, but don't remember where. If I come across it I will add it later, sorry. Remember, the standard width of a single console panel is 5.75 inches and build for you pit from there. Actual panels I have on hand are roughly: KY 28 panel 5.75 X 1.5 in Lighting panel 5.75 X 7.5 in TACAN 5.75 X 3 in IFF 5.75 X 5.5 in For the instrument panel: Airspeed/Mach indicator ~ 3.25 in square, so Altimeter and other large gauges are similarly sized TIT gauge, and by inference the other Engine gauges should be, 5.875 X 1.5 in Fuel gauge 6 X 4 in VHF/UHF repeater display is 3.5 X 1.25 in Exact numbers are going to be hard to find: using the NATOPS images, as they are drawing in my understanding and not exactly to scale, are useful as a reference and starting point. I took a trip to California to sit inside and take measurements of the Santa Rosa Tomcat and I thought writing them down would hold up the line so I video taped instead. Got home and my camera had lost all the data, talk about a doh! moment. ps You are best served using the above thread than making a new thread for every question. Just my opinion. -
Only difference is the F-14A has TIT (Turbine Inlet Temperature) Gauge and the F-14B/D has EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) Gauge. Salute, :punk:

Yeah, I have a throttle quadrant from an A model. I will try to get you some measurements in a day or two, but can not promise it. Just remind me by pm if I haven't posted in a few days. Salute, :punk:

If you can keep build quality up and costs low then nothing I suppose. Salute, :punk:

Basically he breaks down different areas of his career. - Topgun Days - Mostly about his time at Topgun, first as a student and then as an instructor and some of the behind-the-scenes stories of filming THE movie - Topgun. - Before Topgun Days - Mostly about his time as a student NFO, time in the RAG and early fleet assignment. - The last Top Gun - I believe this will deal with his later career as a squadron commander and such. Don't quote me though. Don't forget about Punk's War, Punk's Wing, and Punk's Fight. It's fiction, but written by another ex-RIO, Ward Carroll. Feet Wet by Paul Gillcrist is a good read, not F-14 specific, but he did fly them at the end of his career as a Rear Admiral. Another book from the Gulf War is Angles Of Attack: An A-6 Intruder Pilot's War by Peter Hunt, I enjoyed this one as well. :punk:

That is all I can ask for Sir. Thanks. Salute,

How to stow emergency lever handle after (and staying in) oversweep?
punk replied to Bearfoot's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Per the manual, are you doing everything in the second paragraph for sure? http://www.heatblur.se/F-14Manual/general.html#id2 Oversweep The emergency wing-sweep handle is also used to select the oversweep position of the wings. The oversweep is only used while on the ground to reduce the wing span to make it easier to spot the aircraft on the carrier deck. As the wing will sweep over the stabilizers on the tail the horizontal tail authority system is enabled to prevent the wings and stabilizers from damaging each other by restricting movement of the stabilizer. To set the wings to oversweep the emergency wing-sweep handle should be moved to the 68° position and held in the extended position. This will deflate the wing-seal airbags and activate the horizontal tail authority system, indicated by the HZ TAIL AUTH caution light illuminating. When the HZ TAIL AUTH caution light goes out and the OVER flag on the wing-sweep indicator appears the oversweep interlocks are free and the handle can now be moved to the 75° position and stowed. To move the wings out of oversweep the handle is pulled up and moved forwards of 68°. This will again illuminate the HZ TAIL AUTH caution light. When the wings have physically exited the oversweep the caution light and the OVER flag will turn off. As with normal emergency mode operation the handle should now be set to the same position as the spider detent and the MASTER RESET button depressed. -
That is going to suck if it is not implemented as a quick visual reference to slip/skid without having to look inside was it's intent and obviously worked well as it was in use for so much of the aircraft's lifespan and would assist us as well. I have seen yaw strings on a helo or two in DCS, it must not be an insurmountable task.

I do not think they sell to individuals, only business, and then their prices are very high.

How to set up toggle switches (a tutorial)
punk replied to Spy Guy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have not looked at the original code, but based on your snippets, you might try: {down=device_commands.Flaps0,up=device_commands.Flaps25,cockpit_device_id=devices.FLAPS,value_down=1.0,value_up=1.0,name=_('Flaps_3_Pos_Up'),category=_('Flight Controls')}, {down=device_commands.Flaps45,up=device_commands.Flaps25,cockpit_device_id=devices.FLAPS,value_down=1.0,value_up=1.0,name=_('Flaps_3_Pos_Down'),category=_('Flight Controls')}, -
F14B for air to ground: was it for real or as a "last option" ?
punk replied to itarrow's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
And the myths and misunderstandings just keep on enduring. Where did they all start? My guess is it must have been jealous hornet riders. :music_whistling: Salute, :punk: -
Just download image from NATOPS and scale. Panels should have a a standard width of 5 3/4".

Hey Mr. Fringe, No, I never was able to for that quadrant. I did come across a second one with A handles, it would be nice to have the extra button or two of the D though. Salute,

Do a search, I already made a post reference this particular product. Sorry, too busy to write up something now. Buyer Beware is all I have time for right now. Though your mileage may vary...:punk:

Hmm,the manual says,"To arm the Rockeye correctly the mechanical fuse should be set to nose (N)." Wonder if it really matters then? http://www.heatblur.se/F-14Manual/weapons.html#mk-20-rockeye

Was it this write up? AIM-54.pdf

I do not recall ever reading that myself. As far as I know it is the other way around per NATOPS. I am sure it was flexible, but all accounts I have read or heard were more in line with it than not. According to: NAVAIR 01–F14AAP–1 dated 1 AUGUST 2001 CHAPTER 40 Flightcrew Coordination 40.2.3 RIO Responsibilities. The RIO will constitute an extension of the pilot observation facilities. By intercommunication, the RIO should anticipate rather than await developments in flight. The RIO will be a safety backup for the pilot. In this capacity, he shall offer constructive comments and recommendations, as necessary, throughout the mission in order to maintain the safest and most effective flight environment. The RIO will be responsible for the reading of the checklists utilizing a challenge and reply system. The RIO will normally be responsible for all communications except in tactical situations. Salute,

Why would you nitpick over such a trivial use of verbiage from 5 years ago? Talk about necrobump... :dontgetit:
