  1. Maybe! , but I'm still not fully convinced. That's a good point!. Thanks mate!
  2. thanks all for your replies, so I guess it is not that bad. Would love to hear from more people so we have a more accurate idea about this issue.
  3. Cords bending aside, the thing I fear the most in case I decide to purchase this throttle, is the weak idle detent. From videos, it looks like a couple of notches in the throttle's levers collide with a button, creating that detent. The problem is that it seems way too easy to pass that idle detent and press the cut off buttons. In certain circunstances, I have very abruptly moved my warthog throttles back to decrease power very fast and I'm afraid this could be an issue with the winwing unit. So, the question is, how bad is it?...I mean, is it something one can truly and easily get used to?, is it really that weak?, how many times have you turn off your engines unintentionally? I know these are kind of hard questions to answer, and heavily dependant of each user but guess we can somehow have an idea of how bad/not bad this issue is. thanks!!
  4. really enjoying the new water!!!, great visual improvement!
  5. Having a proper ray traced global illumination solution for indirect light in DCS would be awesome. However, that would truly be performance hungry and would take quite some time to develop so I don't think that would be a solution at the moment. AO is far from perfect, and you are right, it won't be 100% accurate, but it is 1000% better than having nothing and to be honest, I think it makes a GREAT job when done right (take a look at other certain modern flight sim, AO looks incredible and extremely realistic). About the flickering, well, it shouldn't happen unless samples quality is way too low so it should be aesily fixable (some quality options in the graphics menu should do, just select between low, med, high and ultra and then everyone can choose accordingly with the power capabilities of their machines). Anyway, I would be already happy just by making AO more pronounced, at least to make it visible in cockpits/airplanes, which right now is not the case.
  6. I would love to get the water improvements that have been shown off in most videos and screens for the last few months...among other things.
  7. This is still bugged for me, any info about this issue? thanks
  8. +1, I think I requested this long time ago. Most DCS planes tend to lack proper suspension effects once on the ground as it seems way too stif (no bouncing). Exceptions could be Mig-29 (excelent ground interaction) and F-16.
  9. Currazo de cuidao el del amigo Sky... Realismo, inmersión y diversión, que más se puede pedir? Gracias crack!
  10. +1, I'm surprised this hasn't been yet released... it has been showed in pictures/videos since quite long, same for the fog
  11. Hope something can be done about this!, little up!
  12. I hope for the new water effects.
  13. Ok, now this is an AMAZING news!! No other dev would fit better than HB+TG to bring such a complex module, day 1 purchase no doubt!, can't wait!!
  14. Looks like the new water hasn't been released with this patch...damn!, I was so excited about it
  15. Really hope so, fingers crossed!!
  16. Thanks for the reply...however, I must say, I don't think it is correct. If I do a FAST roll at SAME altitude (I mean not changing the angle of view due to altitude), I can see how the shallow waters are suddenly visible at certain angle and then they suddenly disappear completely to be again fully visible if I continue the roll...I don't think that can be considered "correct", as it demonstrates that LoD has nothing to do with the issue. Also, in pictures 5 and 6 you can see how the coral waters between the small island and the coast of the big one are extremely visible in the picture 5 while they are completely invisible in the picture 6 just 1 or 2 miles away. This shouldn't be happening. thanks!
  17. Title says it all...in the Marianas map, when rolling a plane, the shallow waters change their opacity/visibility to a point where it completely disappear: No mods, track attached. Shallow waters disappearing.trk
  18. For the very first time, we have SSAO for DCS since a few months now, and I think it is a GREAT addition to visuals!, thanks ED!! However, the implementation makes for a extremely slight darkening, almost invisible, rendering the effect useless in all situations. In real life, the places where there is not much indirect light (less energy light bounces) tend to look much darker. Of course, the relation between the darkening and the lighting is fixed, but our eyes/cameras can increase/decrease the overall brightness of the whole image so this is a relative issue. Nevertheless, I think we can conclude there is an acceptable level we all will agree from "correctly exposed" images and what our eyes usually perceive, and definitely, this effect must be MUCH darker and evident. I have taken several images with and without SSAO enabled and as you will see, there is barely a difference, which shouldn't be the case. Also, this is happening in both internal cockpit view and the external world. First w/o then w/ SSAO enabled: As the images demonstrate, it is very hard to notice any ambient occlusion effect taking place, in the spots where there should be plently of light occlusion (no matter if on a sunny day or overcast, although in overcast, there is a slightly increased amount of darkening but still way too weak) there is pretty much nothing, and most of the visible AO is comming from the baked red channel of the roughmets files. As a comparison, here are few real life images showing the effect (and with a more or less equal exposition as one would have with his eyes, for those arguing about HDR or human eyes light adaptation). Note how the indirect light is specially strong (darkness) when the plane is over the ground and/or full of external tanks/bombs due to the objects making harder to the light bounce to these places. Again, it depends on many factors, however, what's the point of having an effect that is doing pretty much nothing?. I'm not asking for a new solution nor ray tracing for making indirect global illumination, but for a simple darker effect of the actual implementation, and, if possible, with a better/more detailed option for SSAO in the graphics menu. Instead of SSAO=on/off there should be a variety of possibilities like low/med/high/ultra which would able for a higher quality (lower radious/more accurate/less grainy) SSAO...but at least, just darkening the effect would be great!. This is a FUNDAMENTAL visual effect for realism, so please, make it at least visible! To clarify a bit more my point here are a few images of the effect working isolated from other things so we can better know what could be done. This visual effect is not a fully realistic approximation to the real life light behaviour, but it is much better than nothing, that's for sure, and while waiting for a future RT implementation, it can do a great work. Thanks!
  19. This wasn't suppossed to be a disscussion post, just one to try to get some insight to "when" could the new water be released but ok, guess I must clarify that YES, there is an improved water in the works. Things I can CLEARLY see in the latest screens and videos that look different: -White caps look smaller, more detailed and are visible further away -Reflections are more diffuse and blurred, overall much better look with a more smoothed depiction -Water's surface has blotches (maybe due to winds/temperature/etc), which contributes to add a nice feeling of distance and realism -Sun glitter is totally different and physically correct for the very first time in DCS, at both, low and high altitude -Shadows over water seem to be improved, they are visible over the sun's reflection -Water color looks better (overall clearer), mostly I guess due to the improved reflectivity which better captures the mix between sky color and clouds reflections color So NO, it is not a matter of "personal taste", is a matter of realism, and whilst they have improved the water since 2.7 version (prior versions have MUCH worse water, take a look here: there is a lot of room for improvements, and they are, no doubt, working on them. I'm not willing to do much work demonstrating this with tons of pictures, but I will post the most obvious things: sun glitter/reflection: Actual improved Actual improved Water's surface blotches and reflections Actual improved White caps: Clouds shadowing over water: Water color: Hope it is clearer now that OBVIOUSLY there is an improved water in the works. I think that with the above explanation you can bet on an improved internal version The point of the post is knowing, if possible, if we are getting this "soon", but guess we can't.
  20. No. Take a second look at it. It's VERY different, particularly the sun reflection over the water, among other things.
  21. I'm truly eager to enjoy the new water rendering for DCS, the one showed in all Marianas screens and latest videos which I thought would be released with the Marianas map. However that wasn't the case so I would love to know if this is something planned for a short term release or if this will still need a lot of time?. Not asking for a date, just if we can expect it anytime soon...maybe @BIGNEWY? thanks!
  22. The new foam from waves near the coast looks great, but I think it should be MUCH stronger. This is at 28knots surface wind: This is how the farallon looks in real life: And other similar formations: It would be great to make the foam from the waves MUCH more evident and visible. Please ED make it possible. Thanks!
