  1. ... I guess we're in agreement now? There's a difference between an unacceptably high angle of attack and "falling into the water." Do you not think the Air Force would have then taken the Charlie variant as well? Come on, man.
  2. Launch or recovery if at reasonable combat weight, the jet would not be so close to the lift limit as to not be able to stay aloft. So no, it would not drop into the sea after launch unless it was prohibitively loaded.
  3. No, they'd just land at an unacceptably high angle of attack. Same result though... no arrestment.
  4. Great update! Absolutely stunning pilot model, can't wait to see how the details bake down into normal/texture maps. Whoever is doing your modeling has a very impressive/professional workflow.
  5. A big "Bravo Zulu" to whomever worked on the smoke trails. They look incredible, especially the flares! Well done, ED.
  6. What?
  7. No kidding.
  8. Very nice practical setup! How did you mount the TM MFDs to the lower monitor?
  9. I sure hope so. I don't always believe that. If that's the case then no one should worry about the A-10 being retired! :smilewink:
  10. Great aircraft. Great capabilities and suitably upgraded to last well beyond its expected lifespan. But outdated? Definitely. It was designed when the low altitude SAM threat was nonexistent. If the American military is being gradually reformed as world COIN police then let's change nothing, but I'd rather our military be equipped and trained to fight a matched adversary should the need arise. The A-10 is reaching the limit of its theoretical tactical use. I have no doubt it can continue to be dominant if it is facing tribal barbarians, but I'm more concerned about a modernized force. The priority should be making sure pilots are well trained and have the flight hours to perform the CAS mission in their platform, A-10 or not. I'd love to see the A-10 continue to fly but the Air Force has got to look forward.
  11. I did not think that website would actually work on people. Apparently it does...
  12. Seriously. Thread title is pretty clear...:music_whistling:
  13. Sure, didn't mean to make it sound like you were attacking him, just that he can't really fix the problem.
  14. Can't put that on Vyrtuoz, that's an ED problem not a Vyrtuoz problem. He's doing what he can to avoid helping cheaters. If we want tracks that don't corrupt or tracks that have more utility within DCS, we should be asking ED to work on that.
  15. I'm surprised no one has posted this... wwtyhD2U9yE
  16. You're the man, Vyrtuoz!
  17. Hey Silver_Dragon, you should try utilizing these for cleaner-looking geometry: http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2015/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-1244162D-A063-486C-BD9B-168466F6488B-htm.html
  18. Or perhaps more vitally, bank angle? :)
  19. Plenty, I'm sure. The fact of the matter is, when things get so complicated that extremely fine dexterity is needed, both hands are working hard anyway. (And so might be the feet, for that matter.) I fly airplanes with either hand from day to day, and honestly it only really matters (in my less complex world) if I spend all my time for a while flying from one seat, and then switch to the other. Sorry for OT. :D So hyped!
  20. I think it's way too early for this kind of discussion. Too early for us to get enjoyment out of discussing hypothetical mass murder in others' time of mourning. If pilot suicide were a factual conclusion, and not a CNN-fueled-hypothesis, then this discussion might be appropriate.
  21. Looks like a very light tailwind... not that a tailwind accounts for all of that.
  22. Beautiful. I have my own homemade stick but didn't think to try rubber in that configuration! How strong is the tension at maximum deflection?
  23. Pretty rare to see a fighter pull off a sub 20-second turn at sea level, just sayin'. Theory and practice are different.
