I got my first PCB sent to me today, I'm super excited because it turned out great. We'll see if it works. I also got a good start on soldering all the wires to my switches. I thought it looked funny when I held them all up like a very very expensive bouquet.

3 position toggle switch wiring?
Braeden108 replied to Braeden108's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sweet thanks! -
I've got a 6 lug 3 position on-on-on toggle switch, I'm not too sure how to get 3 functions out of it without using an AND gate. Anyone know how do wire it without using external logic?

Finished machining on the switch caps. And I also bought some nuts to hold all of this switches in. So now I can put it all together.

Looking for 8 Detent Encoder
Braeden108 replied to DDSSTT's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think that's the ticket -
I'm pretty good with the A-10 (It's my favorite if the picture didn't give it away) if you need any help learning the aircraft shoot me a message here or on Steam, my Steam name is Breedus, my picture is a lovely slab of paduk. I'd be more than happy to give you some one on one teachin.

Ohhhhhhhhh I thought there was a dome in the front Of course it's a rocket pod XD
-
I found this awesome picture, but the planes are carrying something I don't recognize. It's that pod on port wing, the right side of the picture. I'm not referring to the litening pod on the starboard wing. Rather the one opposite it. Any guesses?

NOW AVAILABLE: Community A-4E-C Mod
Braeden108 replied to Merker's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I'm feeling a little silly, but I can't get it to show up in my aircraft list. Unzipped it into the aircraft folder of my DCS folder C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\A-4E-C I can see it in the modules section where one activates modules, but I don't see it along the bottom where the aircraft icons are and I can't place it on the map in order to fly it. As it doesn't show up on that list. I also don't have the option to bind any controls for it. -
I just climb in a cardboard box in my backyard and make plane noises. Saves me $10,000, and I can feel all the G forces. It's the power of imagination.

Whatever you do don't toss it XD I'll gladly take it off your hands and give it a new life. I'll pay shipping. Not trying to be a vulture, it's just those castings are still fantastic, even if something's broken.

I thought I'd put together a little post showing my new design for a button box I've been making. A while back, like a year ago, I bought some switches for a box but I never got around to assembly. Which is good because it's given me some time to put together some ideas about how to do it right. I think the biggest feature of this design is the interchangeable top plate. The idea there is I can make a text panel that is specific to each aircraft and swap it when I switch aircraft. I'm an EE student so I also went ahead and designed my own PCB to run the box, its basically a copy of the PCB included in the MMJOY folder, but it incorporates resistors on each switch. I also put a 555 PWM circuit on it so I can dim the backlighting LEDs. I've finished machining on the plate that holds the switches, soon I'll have the PCBs made and laser cut the top panels. After that comes the hard part of manufacturing the axis lever which I plan to use for radar elevation in the M2000. Actually, upon writing this post, I may go with a wheel instead. It would be much easier to manufacture. Lastly I plan to lathe up some switch caps for my locking lever switches. I based them off of the switches that are in the B-1 Lancer. As much as I love the TL series that are in the A-10 and others, I thought these looked a lot cooler. It also gives me an excuse to knurl something. If anyone's interested in the CAD files or board schematics I'll gladly send them over. Anyhow, I'll keep you up to date on my progress. Mostly as motivation for me to finish the box this time :D
-
Hmm, well I like MMJOY and I'm basically done with design, and mechanical manufacture, so I think I'll forgo any lighting effects this time. Thanks for the info guys!

Yeah that's what I was after. Though, I think to include that at this point in my build would just be feature runaway

Tips on recycling old HOTAS joystick?
Braeden108 replied to Istari6's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If anyone falls through I'd be happy to take it. I'll cover shipping of course. My zip is 97070. -
What exactly are you looking to have made? Do you want a UFC, a panel of switches? I've already been working on a personal switch box design. Its not specifically modelled after any one aircraft, it takes pieces from many aircraft. It has 1 On-On locking lever switch two locking Mom-Off-On switches (good for engines) one 3 position on-on-on locking switch, 3 2-pos on-on standard toggles, a landing gear lever, 2 3 position knobs, 5 push buttons, 1 encoder with push button, and an axis for things like radar elevation or mixture. It also has custom etched top panels, which can be swapped out for different aircraft. These are backlit. Mine will be green, but RGB would be easy.

Hey guys, I'm curious about exporting in game events to real world LEDs. For example 3 green LEDs for landing gear. My main question is, once I get everything set up and the necessary scripts put into DCS is it plug and play from that point? My DCS setup already takes time to actually set up so I don't wanna add more time to it. :hehe: I've been using MMJOY for a while, I noticed it has the capability for this but I'm not sure how to implement it as I haven't been able to track down any guides.

Is this a real picture of the Hind or a DCS screenshot. I cannot tell, which just goes to show how good the graphics are now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mil_Mi-24#/media/File:Mi-24_N09_l.JPG

(Some language, hide this kids.) No one mention that you land the hornet like you're deorbiting it I landed at 2500 fpm, (of course I realized it was because I forgot the flaps) which is what the jet told me to do The mirage is like "Monsuire, please be gentle on the touchdown. The landing gear is made with the French steel."The Hornets like "WHOOOO!! BRING IT ****ER! LETS RIDE THIS BITCH TO THE GROUND LIKE AN ASTROID "The Hornet actively encourages you to be rough with it. It also FLIES the Ka-50 and the A-10 fight to be in the air. They fight and scratch for ever knot and foot. The Hornet floats, it doesn't give a **** it doesn't give a **** about gravity, about bull shit like stalls and spins. It was born in the sky and that's where it lives. It leaps off the runway because it's pissed at you for landed in the first place. That's why when you land, you land HARD because if you have the audacity to pull the hornet out of the sky. You better mean it.

I bought some cheap momentary push button switches, https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/e-switch/KS-01Q-01/EG4791-ND/2116270 I'm not overly enthused about them. They wiggle a great deal and they don't have a good click or travel. Any recommendations? Panel mount or through hole is fine. I do need it to have a cap though. (As much as I'd love to machine my own, this is meant to be a quicker project XD)

Multiple actions on one switch?
Braeden108 replied to Braeden108's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Oh yeah I remember Xpadder, that program was awesome. Oh wait, I'm gonna program this thing with MMjoy. Farther down the road I'll look into programming multiple functions that way. Also I love me a good modifier key. I use the hell out of them on my current HOTAS. However for this case, a modifier wouldn't work. -
I'm looking to make a light switch, I want to put all of my lights on one toggle switch. Because my chosen hobby has led me to need multiple functions on one switch. To simply have three switches to control all the lighting is beyond my means. And so despite my years of engineering school, my hours of learning how to make computers compute, the thing that has bested me is making all the lights come on, with one switch. Though, upon rumination, do I just go into the control files and manually assign the controls or will DCS freak the F-----15 out?

I'm partial to these https://www.digikey.com/products/en?keywords=eg2372 They're large and feel like good. But they're still somewhat inexpensive. One thing that I feel is often forgotten is a lot of the more critical switches are locking lever swithes, master arm, fuel dump, etc. You can get some nice locking lever switches too, this one is three position and the other is a two position. They're also quite satisfying to use. https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/e-switch/100DP6K2B25M1QE/100DP6K2B25M1QE-ND/3777874 https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/e-switch/100DP1K2B25M1QE/100DP1K2B25M1QE-ND/3777861 My favorite is the Momentary-Off-On switch these are great for engine management in the A-10C. You can unlock it and move it to the momentary position and then it will click back into the run position (center) then you can lock it into the off position when the aircraft is shut down. https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/nidec-copal-electronics/8E1051-Z/563-1688-ND/5086653 Then as FusedSpine Suggested you can epoxy caps onto them.
