Anybody have Saitek X52 Pro Profiles?
Headwarp replied to davebert's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
I no longer have an x52 pro but generally - DCS World/mods/aircraft/xxxxx/docs Study the HOTAS diagram in the flight manual and try to match your controls to the real thing as close as possible. Easiest way imo. Can always use modifiers in game if you need a button/switch to have multiple functions. When you take that into consideration, the only thing you might possibly need SST/Logitech software for is functionality of the mouse nub, slider, and rotary dials which can all be assigned to keypresses or axis bands. This also makes full fidelity pits much easier to set up controls for than say FC3 aircraft. -
Disappointing performance drop, 2.5 & 2.5.1
Headwarp replied to Sn8ke's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Downloaded the latest OpenBeta update this morning, and at least in singleplayer - performance seems to have improved a bit for me. Will have to see if there is any improvement in MP once the majority of servers have updated as well. I'm still running without MSAA, but am getting away with Supersampling 2x in NV control panel to make up for that. I'm not making any recommendations for VR settings, but at least on my 3440x1440 monitor with a 980 Ti - things feel better. Well played, ED and friends, well played. *Edit - response to DflippinK - the higher the resolution you play at, the more GPU dependent things become. For poops and giggles you can monitor your cpu/gpu usage between 1080p and 4k. gtx 970 was a big deal when they were new because it pretty much set the bar for 1080p performance when paired with a fast processor in most games. Once you hit 2k or higher resolutions cpu clockspeed matters less than how beefy the gpu is. And on that note - I'm eager for nvidia's next generation of cards. -
Gun got a lot louder and sounds freaking nasty (as in I like it) Vapor trails are awesome. Love watching them appear and disappear as I'm pulling on the stick. I'm sure there's more to say.. but just wanted to give you guys kudos on what I've seen so far with the 2.5.2 update. The bird is a joy.

Disappointing performance drop, 2.5 & 2.5.1
Headwarp replied to Sn8ke's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I do apologize if anybody felt singled out by my post. David OC you actually gave good advice. BrainFart could very well see performance increases by getting that 2600k over 4ghz and Sandy Bridge is pretty well known for it's overclockability. I had my 2500k @ 4.5 on a copper heatsink and air. An AIO liquid unit would do wonders. I was more looking at the OP's system, and his description of a performance decrease between two versions, which to me doesn't sound like a hardware issue. If it was OC instability it would likely show itself with system crashes/BSOD's well before one could even load up a game, rather than suddenly showing a decrease in FPS. Overall I'm happy ED has made strides for 2.5 and the new client, I'm eagerly awaiting the release and development of the Hornet. There are just a few shortcomings that I hope to see get worked out eventually, and by no means am I saying that with the intention of discouragement. I'm rooting for ED and friends. It's an exciting year for DCS World. -
Disappointing performance drop, 2.5 & 2.5.1
Headwarp replied to Sn8ke's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Personally - coming from an i5 2500k @4.5ghz to my current 8700k @4.7 using the same video card - performance between the two CPU's, regardless of the difference in ddr3 and ddr4 ram is negligable when it comes to gaming and DCS. OP has literally one of if not the best gaming rig money can buy at the moment, even if it is pushing the limits of an OC on that cpu - if it's stable through stress testing, video rendering, and most other games he can play that indicates stability. MP servers initial load in stuttering is widespread. Everybody I fly with, which can be anywhere from 2-8 people all experience this. This includes people running 7700k's and 1080Ti's because they are VR users and want the most horsepower available to them. Today on 3 different servers - we were randomly freezing mid sortie at the same time, which indicates server side performance, or perhaps even something happening when new players spawn in. In SP missions - I can be flying low maintaining 70-80+ fps and suddenly look at something that causes a drop into the 40's. What I'm looking at that's causing this I have no idea. In this particular instance I was pointed away from the ground targets in the mission when my frames dipped. Most of the posters in this thread are running 1080Ti's and CPU's that can easily achieve over 4ghz. Can we admit it's something within the game engine and not the end-user's hardware? I mean no disrespect..and I wish i could be of more help in pointing out the direct cause. But there's only a certain point at which our hardware could be the issue. -
dcs.log-20180522-112501.zip Track file was 42MB and I couldn't upload without removing it from the zip file. Was returning home from a sortie in the AV8BNA

Also be sure to set an appropriate speed for the task in the ME. I can't think of the speed for procedure off the top of my head however in my experience with any aircraft in DCS, if you aren't at or above the lowest recommended IAS for AAR the effect of throttle/stick adjustments is much larger. I.E. lose speed nose goes down, gain speed nose goes up, pitching nose up causes a drop in speed, nose down causing you to speed up. While this happens at all airspeeds it seems more pronounced when you're riding the edge of stall speed, and can make it feel impossible to fly level. The difference of 3-5knots could change the orientation of your aircraft and throw off your trim settings. Keep in mind the Mission Editor only allows to set TAS.. while good for navigation, isn't so great for communicating airspeeds for whatever task the more altitude you have that might require a certain amount of airflow around the surfaces for stability. IAS would be more ideal imo. A stable flight speed makes a world of difference imo. I actually find the AV8B easier to refuel than say, the Mirage, or any aircraft that uses a boom rather than a drogue in DCS, due to the nature of the AI boom operator.

AMD Thread Ripper 1950x & Intel 8700k
Headwarp replied to M3GT4's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
For gaming alone the number of cores currently doesn't mean much once you're using a quadcore or bigger. Clock speed has a bigger impact on performance, although that could change with the future implementation of the Vulkan API. If running on a 970 or better @ 1080p performance gains become apparent as you start to get over 4ghz. Once you start gaming at 2k or higher resolution, GPU selection makes a bigger difference than clockspeed adjustments. Currently - any MSAA at all causes a massive drop in frames per second in DCS World due to the nature of deferred shading. Probably best to just leave it off at this point.. and I don't recommend fxaa as it seems to make things shimmer in the distance (at least at the resolution I play at) Right now it's kind of a toss up on whether you want smoother image quality with at least msaa 2x, or higher framerates without any AA at all. I can't speak for virtual machines.. but intel still has the title of "best gaming cpus" on lockdown simply because of the achievable clockspeeds. Performance between my i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz and my i7 8700k @ 4.7ghz is negligable. Threadripper would most certainly render videos faster than my 8700k, but my machine's first purpose is gaming and simming, and the fact that pushing the cpu to 4.7ghz hardly causes it to break a sweat was the determining factor in choosing the cpu personally. I am now hindered by my video card..which.. I'm waiting for the next generation of nvidia GPU's to tackle that desire, and perhaps move into the realm of VR. That being said - you should still be able to enjoy DCS on a threadripper which is more suited to your VM needs. -
New to DCS, Need Help with Saitek X52 for A10C
Headwarp replied to Cacher's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
IMO with the x52 the only thing you need the SST software for is to assign keyboard commands to the mouse nub for slewing. You can always add a modifier in the game you can hold to configure any/all buttons to have multiple commands. Use the diagram of the hotas from the manual found in the game folder under /mods/aircraft/a-10c and match everything as closely as possible, using a modifier to turn your two hatswitches into the four that the a-10c has and so on. You can also use SST to turn the slider and rotaries into keypresses as well. -
To make mission editing easier it would be nice if we could set waypoint speed based on an aircraft's IAS rather than TAS. For example - making a refueling mission I have to guesstimate the TAS of the tanker at various altitudes to make it fly at whichever IAS is recommended for a given aircraft's refueling speed. I think this process would be much easier if I could just tell the tanker to fly at xxx knots IAS. I have no qualms with this being optional, similar to the fact that altitude can be set either above sea level, or above ground level. I can see this being useful for more than just Tanker missions...but on the topic of tankers.. better yet would be if the tanker had a preset speed to fly for each aircraft able to utilize it in DCS. I'm uncertain if this is already somewhat being done as I haven't tried to refuel on an MP server in quite some time.. but it'd be cool if the tanker just knew "Oh, an F-15 is requesting fuel, I better get to 310knots IAS" or "A-10C! 180Knots IAS" With carrier ops being a thing, tankers might become more vital.

Thrustmaster response about F-18 stick in development
Headwarp replied to Baz000's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think if TM dropped a throttle that was a combination of the a-10c and f/a-18 throttle I'd be into it. Upgrade the slew nub to be more like a gamepad stick, or just something better.. put the rotary dial in the throttle and and extra button.. keep everything else f-15/a-10c like and i'd replace the heck out of my WH throttle with it...and probably buy the stick grip since I already have a WH base even though the f-16/a-10c stick has more buttons to work with it's pretty nice having a replica of what we're flying. ...unless they seriously improve the gimbal design in which I'd buy the entire stick setup. -
I really need help with FC3 and Joystick settings
Headwarp replied to Memcco's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
do yourself a favor and invest in TrackIR if you can afford it or one of the "Free" alternatives that utilize the ps3 eye camera and some kind of LED clip (i got my ps3 eye for like $20) or look into the Delan Clip, you will be able to use your hat switch for something more practical, like trim. -
Took a few screenshots of the interior of the aircraft at night to show that there's nothing in the cockpit I can see that would be causing this glare... which also makes the canopy glass like it's had way too much abuse to not have been replaced at this point. I feel like I'd need a big rock or a diamond to do that much damage to the canopy glass. This is my favorite module currently flyable in the sim atm. So I don't mean to nitpick.. but.. the cockpit glass doesn't make sense to me, especially at night. ^ Certainly the moon isn't causing this glare.. which is also a bit more apparent at full size.. at least on a 34" 21:9

The Viper is definitely something I would pre-order as quickly if not more quickly than I did the Hornet. I'll also be getting the Tomcat... and honestly think I'll be set on western aircraft for some time with the three in my arsenal of flight sims. Some full fidelity 4th gen red aircraft would be a lovely counter to all this freedom.

No less convenient than say taking your hand off the collective to hit the ground moving target button, or arming a laser or changing the aiming point of a gun turret, or take a hand off the stick to engage the autopilot functions as I have assigned to keyboard presses. (Ka-50 on the mind apparently.) Almost more convenient than reaching for a mouse. Guess it depends on how you arrange and visualize things.

Steam stores all apps in Steam/Steamapps/common/ YOu can also right click the game in the steam library, click "properties" and within the menu that pops up "browse local files" Dcs_updater.exe will be in the /bin/ folder from the dcs installation directory - If the file just isn't there in the steam version, instead try verifying integrity of game files from the library. Sorry, I don't have the steam edition but the issue is one I've had and have known a few people to experience. Not sure the cause but the "dcs_updater.exe repair" has been the solution for us.

If this is before you select a role/aircraft either step away for a few minutes or fight the lag and select an aircraft and click briefing/fly. I think it might have something to do with loading in all the available aircraft and their loadouts or something but I can't say for certain.. but anybody I fly with has to go through this routine when first connecting to a server. My reason for guessing this in particular is because of the way my system hangs when I browse loadouts in the mission editor. 104th and most of the servers people fly on have a many many aircraft available with lists of premade loadouts in the dropdown menu. Most SP missions you fly won't have near as many planes and various loadouts to deal with. Anyway - back to topic - just give it a few.. or select the first plane you can manage to click in and spawn in it. It should get better. Hoping there's some kind of fix for this in the future but it's not just you if it's prior to selecting an aircraft and letting everything load in. If not maybe turn down shadows and go without MSAA if you aren't already.

Power supplies aren't terribly expensive.. even a fully modular Gold+ power supply runs about $90-$150 USD depending on wattage. One that isn't modular will likely be half that price range. I mean...yeah you have to get in there and unplug wires and replug wires but I wouldn't quite compare it to "rebuilding the entire system" PCI-E 2.0 - 3.0 doesn't make a huge difference if using only one video card ime. And your i7 3770K is fine.. at the most, if playing at lower resolutions (like 1080p) you might see a benefit in clock speeds above 4ghz provided the the gpu is a higher end maxwell or 1060 or above (with DCS in mind anyway), which is likely achievable with aftermarket copper heatsink/fan or an AIO liquid cooling unit. At higher resolutions the GPU becomes the determining factor in performance. So basically... the cost of a gpu upgrade + the cost of even a cheap PSU and a little time reading guides on how to OC the i7 3770k (which should be well out of warranty by now) would feel like a brand new system. and IMO a single GPU solution has more value than SLI just due to the fact that SLI isn't universally supported in the development world. I.E. - the best single card you can afford will likely provide the best overall performance and ability to last at least a couple generations. 'Tis the nature of the beast that is "PC gaming". Developers create the need for faster hardware as time progresses. By the time nVidia releases their next consumer line of graphics cards (hopefully sometime this year) 4k res and higher resolution VR headsets may become the new mainstream. For the most part though, a PSU could well last you through several system builds, as well as harddrives and/or GPU. And you dont have to buy every part at once. Prices become less intimidating when you buy a piece here and there when you can afford it.

How do I load my TARGET profile to A-10C Warthog?
Headwarp replied to ouseler's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yes he can turn his boatswitch and china hat into modifiers in the in game menu. He's not asking how to set up a three position switch. There's a little button called "modifiers" on the bottom left of the control menu. However - my advice to the OP.. no need.. you more or less want the functions of the boat switch and china hat as they are by default. As long as you're using trackIR or VR the ONLY thing you might want to change with your warthog is to assign the trim switch to trim without any modifier. Yes you manually have to add your rudder pedals in the axis assignment menu. But - all of your sensors, and choosing your SOI is controlled from the stick and throttle. After the initial start up.. the only things you'll need your mouse for are for operating the CDU, and hitting OSB buttons on the MFCD and making entries on the UFC. Turning lights on and off. Reset everything to default...bind the trim switch to trim functions, go into axis command and manually bind your rudder pedal and/or toebrake axes. You're set to start learning the A-10C. Literally no need to bind anything else as you can use your mouse to access the rest of the aircraft, and you'll find that most of the work is done from the HOTAS in the A-10 ( and the majority of clickpit aircraft for that matter). If you do feel you want to bind some of the other switches or functions.. by default the pinky paddle is left free so you can easily set that as a modifier to double up the amount of controls you have at your fingertips. Even with FC3 aircraft you don't need target as you can set modifiers via the ingame menu. P.S. He has a warthog listed at the bottom of the OP guys. Cougar throttle doesn't have a china hat or a boatswitch. Of which all the terminology related to the buttons on the warthog stick/throttle co-relate to the exact same switch in the A-10C -
In the axis assign menu, click "axis tune" at the bottom of the page while you have your rudder input selected and set a nice big curve on the rudder axis. At least 20-40ish. Although i could see using higher with the limited range of twist sticks. It will make the center of the axis much less touchy, although as you get closer to full deflection it will be a little more touchy. You rarely need full deflection on the rudder surface for any virtual plane however. I even have to do this with full range pedals because they're otherwise way too touchy. .. the necessity of doing so for a twist stick is likely much more apparent. And if for some reason it's not the ruddur turning the nosehweel causing the tire popping, I'd be with the other posters that it's the brakes. Basically a button simulating what is actually an axis IRL. Tap tap tap. Never hold.

Such as Kutaisi.. but the point being made by my post is that for some reason I'm not catching beams there.. on that specific runway heading.

Just once again - pointing out Goa was experiencing a bug that seems to effect g-sync users, with the only known work around atm being - install geforce experience and enable the shadowplay overlay. Not a "complaint" of "My hardware is only pulling such and such frames per second in DCS.". The game menus themselves will easily hit the 180 fps cap set in the graphics.lua when functioning normally and no v-sync or g-sync even on older hardware (or perhaps even ASW). There is no g-sync monitor in existence that's capped specifically to 64hz refresh rate or frame limit. This bug also prevents the user from exceeding 64 fps in flight when hardware permits otherwise. A bug is a bug. A 2016 thread was linked about the same bug. :P I've experienced this bug and know exactly what the OP was going through. So has ccamillo apparently. I'm not trying to be a forum moderator or anything here, but I fail to see the purpose of posting in this thread if you aren't experiencing said bug or attempting to help the OP fix said bug having experienced it before. Not everyone's a fan of Geforce Experience either, so using it as a workaround isn't the ideal fix for everyone. It does work for now though.
-
*Clap clap* kudos to you.. nobody's talking about FPS while in flight in this thread btw. The guy had an issue where his fps wouldn't exceed 64 even in the game menus... which is some kind of bug. That - and just because you're okay with low fps doesn't mean people won't always be looking for a way to increase their own. That last line in your post? Follow your own advice if you're not going to be helpful maybe.

I haven't been able to pick up the localizer beam for Kutaisi to save my life between the A-10C, M2000C, or the Harrier. Some airfields seem to work. I'm able to find the beam @ Batumi no issues in Harrier and M2000C..just landed m2000c via ILS at Mineralnye-Vody. Haven't checked either with the A-10C. I'm wondering if wind direction is throwing Kutaisi or even runways with only 1 beam pointing one way even when ATC is guiding you in from that direction. In the AV8B it's like I'm still getting AWLS signal in the EHSD + heading and distance to Kutaisi but on approach getting no beam and therefore missing the guidance info on the hud. I'm also being sure to contact the tower every time. No needles in the A-10C. I probably won't be testing every single runway.. but if anybody feels like it it'd be interesting to know if it's the wind throwing off runways with beacons pointing towards only one end.
