Have you tried running dcs repair? It's in the Eagle Dynamics folder in the start menu, or you can open command prompt, go to install directory then /bin/ and run "dcs_updater.exe repair". I'd veer away from mods if any are installed currently (idk if you do or don't) at least until you get your client sorted. It's something that can be fixed on your end I'd imagine.. even if it takes a fresh install, which the 2.5 beta installer is available now and will still copy files from your previous installs. Run the repair.. if that doesn't work, time to troubleshoot. Your system should be able to run it, although i say that without knowing what resolution you're attempting to play at.

I get some lag and low fps while looking at the briefing screen just about any server I connect to. I tend to wait it out until the breifing screen becomes responsive and then choose my aircraft and go. as far as general FPS - msaa does not play nice with deferred shading. Enabling FXAA in nv control panel and disabling msaa in game should look comparable to msaa 2x provided you alt enter into full screen. I know the devs think @ high res we wont need AA...but I think they should consider MLAA or something in that regard, because things look pretty jaggy without any AA at all.
-
Map is absolutely stunning. Stuck @ msaa 2x and medium/flat shadows for now and making me wish gpu's weren't outrageously priced at the moment but.. the 980ti will do until nvidia tells us what they plan in 2018 (hopefully in march). Thanks for all your hard work on this update! Stoked about the continuing improvement of DCS World.

assembly is not that bad. The hardest thing is adjusting the toe brake tension and angle. The rest is just screwing in a couple bolts. From time to time I have to retighten the bolts on the footpedals themselves but nothing else requiring maintenance there. There is a plus side to being able to break the entire pedals down though. Any particular piece is likely not that complicated to replace. Although, I haven't needed to and probably won't.

My reasoning for restarting the campaign is generally because if I run into a problem with my PC I can't fix fairly quickly I just wipe it and reinstall windows fresh with the latest drivers, but - yeah I don't know what gives. Prior to my post the last time I flew the mission the helo landed slightly off the FARP and the mission ran fine, but now he's just landing on the FARP again and it shuts down. I personally don't know if ED's doing something between updates or somehow old mission files are being distributed, but I do hope it gets easier for you when 1.5 is deemed final release, and in the future with 2.5. Glad you're bringing it along to the new client.. but don't feel too pressured 2.5 brings a lot to keep us busy and I can at least move the nook off the FARP myself if I feel like flying the campaign over the next 5 days :)

Depending on your level of enjoyment and time spent and value of the craft of simming - My x52 pro AND my saitek proflight pedals both burned me. Personally.. I'm recommending a refund if one is available to you, and invest in a set of MFG Crosswinds, or if you simply can't afford it, CH Pedals will likely be a safer bet than saitek. To be fair.. my saitek pedals worked fine.. but I stretched without thinking one day and snapped the right pedal off.. replacing those pedals I'd have already spent close to the amount I paid for my crosswinds, and still dealing with poor quality plastic pedals. I highly doubt I'll ever find it necessary to replace my Crosswinds.. that and Milan is top notch customer service. Sorry if this advice doesn't work for you.. but as much as I sim? Worth every penny. That being said.. if you like the T-flights and can get a refund rather than a replacement, no problem with using them for as long as possible either. Personally - I'm still a little surprised Logitech would step in and buy Saitek and simply just rebrand their existing products without taking some measures to improve the overall quality of the products.

Hehe I uninstalled the beta client and installed the 1.5.8 stable. Have not gotten around to checking the campaign yet, as my mates and I have been messing around on buddyspike blueflag and having too much fun. I will see if my original statement holds true.
-
I just wanted to say thanks P-chop for being upfront about this. For some reason the latest 1.5 beta client, first mission has gone back to the Chinook spooling down on my machine. Unsure if the 1.5 stable release is the same, I should probably install the non beta version seeing as it seems to be the final release for DCS 1.5. Even if I forego switching client installs, it's easy enough to fix thanks to dimitrov, and hopefully his fixed missions are still available for download. It's also not a big deal seeing as the merge to 2.5 is getting nearer. I have to say, Operation Dixmude is one of my favorite campaigns that come with any of the modules. It's highly immersive and I can't wait to experience it on the 2.5 terrain. That being said, "I can't wait" isn't impatience or asking you to rush.. just a show of excitement for things to come. I'm hopeful that the move to 2.5 for all future updates makes this easier to manage for you but I will admit ignorance on everything involved with that. Anyways.. I just felt like you guys deserved some appreciation for the communication and displaying your commitment to the campaign.

As far as I'm concerned.. just from my obersvations on the forums over the years this is likely the most highly anticipated DCS module of all time. Like DCS 2.5, we've had our eye on this subject for several years. Wags has been continuously making videos showing us their progress, and I feel like this is indeed on the scope for 2018. It may be in beta status for some time yet.. but ED is finally confident enough to say "Hey, we're doing this.. we're confident enough to allow you to pre-order, you should be able to take your first flight in it by spring." When I feel like I have $60 to spare I'll be pre-ordering.. and yeah I'm doing it to save $20 on a module that I know I'd end up buying as soon as it is released. Hopefully they can get most of the systems in by the end of the year, but from the way it's been advertised lately, I'm happy with the fact that I'll be pre-ordering as long as they keep showing us they're commited to improving the product. And I think they will. They're going to want to be content with their work on this project.. and they're going to want their customers to be content with their work on this project. I have little doubt that this product will be as high quality as the A-10C by the time it's completed. I hopped in the A-10C last night for the first time in awhile.. and it simply reminded me how enjoyable a virtual bird she is. The transitions and roadmap for DCS World 2018 include some rather significant changes and hopefully, some of those changes make it much easier for them to focus on project completion. If you've been begging for this module for the last 4+ years, put your money where your mouth is imo. Unless you feel like the module is worth $80, which is totally your opinion and nothing wrong with that. Then wait until sometime after Early Access is released.
-
Have to throw in my 2cents.. if you don't already have the Ka-50 module.. get the Ka-50 Module. It is one of the shining modules of DCS. It's the most heavily armed helicopter we have in DCS World at the moment. The F-5E is cool and all.. but probably IMO the least effective at delivering it's payload when you compare it to the A-10C or the AV8B which can carry similar armament. That would be because it's pretty oldschool and you have to manually adjust the gunsight and determine approach altitude for a bombing run. The Blackshark comes with a ton of SP content and is quite a deadly chopper. From personal experience - I've gotten much more fun factor out of the Ka-50 than the F-5E. Although I do own both. I also highly recommend a playthrough of the Deployment campaign that comes with the Ka-50 This is where most of my learning has come from flying mostly solo. I know I'll be flying through it a bit once 2.5 hits. Either purchase - expect a learning curve.. F5 for me took practice to be able to accurately hit with bombs. Blackhawk - just learning to fly this thing without crossing the rotors is a challenge all in itself. Once you do that it's rather maneuverable.

Have to agree with several posters here that having a unified client is going to be the biggest thing to look forward to. Graphically DCS 2.x is pretty stunning.. so the update to Caucasus is going to be nice, but my hope is the dev team's work gets easier from here on out. It will also be nice having something to actually do in the new client, as there really isn't much in the way of content for Normandy/Nevada and Caucasus is bringing all of the SP that came with the modules I already own. That and hopefully the server admins in 1.5 will continue to be so in 2.5. But.. to try to sum up the most exciting part of 2.5 - two words "The future". Which includes the Hornet, the Tomcat, the Phantom and a larger supply of people to help pin down bugs.
-
Not that I'm promoting my advice as professional, but getting Caucasus converted after all this time is a wise decision, and please I'm not mocking any statements from years ago or anything like that. Hopefully the 1.5 client will at least prove stable while we wade through the beta process of 2.5 and onward. The Caucasus map alone will bring in a much larger test bed to help you iron out kinks. The addition of the already existing SP content for the modules we already own will give us much more to do while we're trying out the new client and I'm loving that we're getting closer to a point where you guys can focus on the new, and only needing one install of DCS World. As far as a delay - As a customer persnonally - the past is behind us. More recently you've been showing us some of the shineys and I know quite a few people besides myself drooling over it. The examples of progress being made, and post I've quoted above, while unforunatey calling for a delay until late jan, is just a month away deserve a Kudos. Your fans have been waiting a long time for this, and this news is exciting. It's like going to the S club and going home with BB's watching the 2.5 footage, all while in the F/A-18. I ain't the kind of guy who enjoys the S club.. but you ever met that one that seems like worth the wait? Anyway.. I'm obviously a little excited.. so I'll stop before my keyboard starts smoking.. but Wags, and Eagle Dynamics - the people I "fly" with like the progress updates and videos. Wishing you the best of luck, and looking forward to DCS 2.5beta and onward. Try to meet your goals.. but if something comes up - show us shineys of what you've been working on and keep communicating with us. There are some of us that get we're all human. Even when we forget it.

FFB Stick + Curves + Trimming = Buggy?
Headwarp replied to Flagrum's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Necroing this thread because Polychop. Their addition of the FFB Curves in the special menu for the Gazelle shows that it is possible to add curves to the FFB instructions. and I think it'd be pretty cool if Eagle Dynamics and other DCS developers adopted this nifty little feature. Maybe P-Chop can be talked into sharing their method for this one particular problem solver. or better yet, maybe it could somehow be linked to the current axis tuning feature in the control menu for all of DCS World idk..maybe I'm dreaming big there. I know you can't find them NEW anymore.. but old FFB sticks in working condition aren't that hard to find on ebay. And the Ka-50 module is one of the best reasons to have one. :) -
Heh DCS heli's are what made me buy a FFB stick in the first place because I wanted to experience the force trim systems. The gazelle isn't that bad with FFB curves set to 5 or 10, and then leaving everything at default in the axis control menu other than FFtune Swap Axis checked if msffb2. It does seem like it creates a bit of a deadzone on the stick but I've managed to get used to it. Having gotten used to how the Force trim operates in the gazelle, She's actually pretty enjoyable to fly. Personally I'd just plug in a non-ffb stick if I didin't want FFB effects.. but force trim is what made me bite the bullet and snag a couple off Ebay. The stick suddenly inverting position is and already has been explained as what it is in the Gazelle, the stick moving to the orientation of the helicopter when you release the trim button, basically engaging autopilot to hold that orientation. In other words set trim based on what the artificial horizon is showing not based on the location of the cyclic.
-
If you take your hands off your stick while adjusting trim using the hat, you'll notice your FFB stick actually moves like it would in many fixed wing aircraft, just ever so slightly which makes it ideal for slight adjustments. So no it shouldn't lead to any discrepancies. As far as losing spring forces when holding the trim button like it does in the Ka-50 - good question. Not much info on the trim system in the flight manual, perhaps that deserves a thread of it's own by someone who intimately understands how the magnetic brake, trim, and AP functions work from both a hands on and mechanical perspective. I think this particular thread has served it's purpose.. confirming that FFB is indeed working in the Gazelle, and those of us who thought otherwise were just confused on how the Trim system worked. It's still a little confusing.. because when on the ground with engine running, if you hit the trim button it just holds the stick position.. but once you're up in the air I'm guessing autopilot is taking over. hehe.. I do feel some more information on how trim/AP work and what they're doing inside the helicopter would be some worthy information.

Taking a look at the OP - the change logs. That's quite a few updates this month. Good to see some progress. Keep up the good work P-Chop. Hopefully things can keep moving forward.. and you guys can keep talking to pilots and perfecting your virtual aircraft baby. I have to say - this was mentioned to me many months back and I saw it on this forum again tonight.. and I went and tried it and I probably won't go back to using curves for the Gazelle. . Curves at 0 and Y Saturation at 50-60 YMMV on pitch/roll..it just feels better. Sure...you lose some of the full range of your stick but.. I can't really think of a situation where I'd need all of it. It's still slightly touchy even at a Y Saturation of 50 on both pitch/roll axes. Coming into land, I find I have to remove my hand from the stick all together and just tap it with my finger tips to come down for a gentle landing if I can even manage that but for the most part.. she feels pretty wonderful not being so touchy. That and figuring out the difference in the force trim system compared to other helis in the game.. the Gazelle just became one of my favorite mods. *edit* had to take back my statement about the Y saturation on pitch/roll axis. I'm using an msffb2, and adjusting the saturation does weird stuff to the trim. learning to be extra gentle and fly with no curves at all and 100 saturation.
-
I have to try this.. will let you know my results :) *edit* you guys rock for making me delve deeper into this. So, for the first time ever I feel like I'm getting a sense of the trim system in the Gazelle, and I'm starting to see maybe I was confused in it's operation. I'm not a real heli pilot and I have no idea how they operate irl. My initial confusion with how the trim system was working with FFB came from my experiences in the Ka-50, and a few brief experiences with the Huey. To make an analogy short - personally, and I could be wrong on on this - but when pressing trim button in either Ka-50 or Huey, stick stays put where you release it. I.E. Trim causes helicopter to chase the stick. Just playing around in the Gazelle tonight when you press trim the aircraft holds the position according to the ADI or orientation of the aircraft when you press/release the trim button rather than keep the position of the stick, and the stick moves to hold the position of the aircraft. I.E. the stick chases the aircraft. So - Ka-50 and Huey - the aircraft chases the cyclic, and for the Gazelle - the cyclic chases the aircraft. I'm not knowledged enough to say anything's wrong with that.. and flying the gazelle just got a ton easier for me personally, although I'm still no master. And I might even be misinterpreting the other helicopters force trim systems. Using msffb2, "Swap axis" checked, invert x/y unchecked. So if like me, you were yanking your stick to the right, pressing the trim button and wondering why your stick went somewhere to the left, it's because trim sets the aircraft's orientation, not the stick position.

Dimitriov posted a solution quite a while back. Just open the campaign mission in the mission editor, click the chinook, and move the triangle slightly away from the farp. Mission will work as normal.
-
freezes are still happening for me too after the latest update, and it's still random. Had one CTD that I posted logs for in another thread because it's the first actual CTD i've encountered while in flight since 2.1 and normandy. I'm kind of under the impression that logs alone aren't going to point this out as the game doesn't CTD, it's just freezing. but Logsagain.zip

The A-10 can be rearmed while engines are running (The A-10C at least I'm unsure about the flaming cliffs modules).. that's because the engines are up high and on the back of the plane and there's no risk of the ground crew getting sucked in through the intake and spit out the back as ground beef. The Mig 29, su-27/33 and F-15C all have their intakes too close to the ground and too close to the weapon pylons to safely arm the jets with running engines.
-
Default trim options in "misc." or special. check swap axis in ffb tune...not invert.

I'm finding that the Dora is actually quite capable if you use it right. The 190 airframe doesn't get the greatest climb rate initially, however once you are at altitude you have all the energy in the world with it. It is capable of extremely high speed dives and retains a ton of energy climbing out of it, though you have to be gentle with the stick when going fast.. pull out of high speed dives with stabilizer. Of course, input rudder to keep the slip ball centered when climbing or in general when you can think to do so.. I have to put a hefty curve on my crosswinds because they're really touchy. The idea is, when you take off, you want to have a higher altitude than the enemy by at least 1000-1500 meters and more isn't bad at all as long as you know how to slow down if you're diving too fast. The 190 frame can gain MOST of it's altitude back from a dive into a climb if you let it.. so take your time and be patient. Try to be the guy diving in on the unsuspecting spit/p-51 pilot. You can BnZ all day against any opponent if you have enough of an energy advantage, it's when you start to turn that you're putting yourself at risk, but not necessarily in a solo engagement. The 190 has an extremely high roll rate. P-51's and spit's that get the jump on you will be hard pressed to follow you into a split-S and get a shot. You can drag them down into their critical speeds where they might rip ailerons or wings off if they pull too hard and quickly transition into rolling scissors.. your roll rate is superior. When they get close chop the throttle enough to get behind them, and them go full power with the mw-50 engaged to keep that position, throttling down as needed to avoid the overshoot. The 190 CAN turn using take off flaps (stage one of two, 10 degrees) between 300-450ish km/h but you still have to be gentle with the stick, and using stabilizer to assist with turning can go a long way. Unless you're using an FFB stick you have to be extra attentive of the sounds of buffeting and shaking. If you pull the stick beyond her limits she will go into a flat spin. You can rope a dope a spit if you start with enough distance between you and him behind you, you're going reasonably fast, 500-700km/h IAS before you pull up to a 300km/h climb, start to turn left slightly and go straight vertical looking down behind you to watch him fall when you drop the rope... at which point you throttle to zero and hammerhead down on top of him attempting to get a shot. The 109's climb rate is more suited to this tactic than the 190, but if you have the energy advantage or are putting enough distance between you and the spit.. you can probably force him to stall before he can shoot you if he's inexperienced enough to follow you up.. and if he doesn't follow you up? You can then dive on him and put him in the defensive. In most cases you probably want to stick to BnZ.. which means try to climb to the advantageous altitude before you think you'll even come across an enemy.. dive on them..shoot if you have the sight picture, pull back up rather than engage in a turn fight and get your altitude while keeping an eye on your target and checking your 6.. since he started with less altitude and therefore less energy..he won't be able to follow you up.. his only defense is to turn sharply, split S, or try to lure you into a turn battle/scissors and hope you don't get a well placed deflection shot. You can turn with him briefly.. but you want most of your speed to regain your altitude so you can reset, stay behind it, and make another approach. Watching a documentary starring pilots from the Battle of Brittain, the allied pilots exclaimed that the chance of success of their missions depended largely on whether or not they could climb to a high enough altitude within the 5-6 minutes of time they had to scramble off the ground and respond to the calls from the early warning radar and stop the bomb raids in time. With out the altitude to exchange for speed and energy, they would be sitting ducks for the german fighters escorting the bombers. That and having to turn around to chase a bomber already level and at speed flying towards his target while climbing increases the chance of the enemy's successful ground strike, as you basically have to turn around...climb some more and maintain enough speed to catch up to him. Have patience.. try to think your actions through.. turn fighting is a last resort, that while it can be done successfully in the FW-190 airframe, will leave you a sitting duck if any of his friends join in the fray before you can kill him and regain your altitude energy. It's better sometimes just to extend away and reapproach the situation after you've managed to regain some altitude or drag the guy tailing you to a friendly waiting to pounce down on him.. and in that case.. do go evasive..but don't pull the stick too hard unless you've got good distance, no other visable bogey's and it's straight up so the inexperienced pilot behind you tries to follow and stalls..practically sitting still for the guy coming in behind him to save you. If you've got a wingman saying "im closing in for a shot" it is NOT the time to yank the stick and break hard right.. we ain't got no Sidewinder missles. and it's easier to shoot someone in the 6 than go for high AoA deflection shots.

Not internet connection?
Headwarp replied to sanc2775's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Yeah I'm experiencing this too living in the Eastern area of the U.S. can't log into release version or 2.1. without several attempts and when I do I can't seem to load up the burning skies MP server >.< which is unfortunate.. I was testing the latest nVidia drivers and it seemed to correct an issue I've been having since Normandy released and 2.1 was introduced (my first experience with DCS 2.X). But.. technology fails sometimes... so I guess I'll find something else to for awhile until they fix that server. -
Hopefully a Polychop dev will take notice eventually, but in the meantime your solution is satisfactory. Escorting the Chinook was pretty immersive, and also gave me some practice flying close formation in my virtual Gazelle. ;) Thank you for your willingness to help the community when you feel like you can. I also hope there wasn't too much effort involved for you in finding this simple workaround. Best of luck to you and any current or former members of the Polychop team. As a member of the simming community, I can only have good wishes for sim developers. It will likely be a bit before I personally stumble on any other problems that may exist with the campaign if any as I'm still trying to learn how to set the Gazelle down gently.. and my struggles with that are another issue all together. ;)

Thrustmaster Warthog issues, Windows 10 Pro
Headwarp replied to Sn8ke's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
Haven't had an issue personally with my Warthog in Windows 10...but I did have issues with an x52 not responding before I purchased my hog because windows wanted to install a different driver than what I was downloading. If the stick is showing up in device manager...right click it and "update driver", then "Browse my computer for driver software." Then "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer." If you have more than one listed in the white box.. try one and see how it goes, and if not try the other. Sorry if it doesn't help..but about the only thing I can think of if the joystick wasn't damaged in any way. *Edit* This post probably belongs in the input/output section of the forums just fyi. :)
