  1. *edit* second time I've posted in this thread while experience what might just be "User error" lol. Disregard. Hopefully I won't need it but keeping this post here to edit rather than delete again, although no offense if a mod decides to delete it for me. See what happens when I do it right.
  2. This is going to sound weird.... but I encountered a similar issue when first installing 2.5 For some reason my frame rate was capped to 64 FPS even while in the game menus (not actually "flying"). What fixed it? I enabled nvidia share (shadowplay) overlay in Geforce Experience and suddenly was back to normal framerates.
  3. Regardless of consumption, I would assume if you wanted to compare the turning performance of the airframes from Aircraft A, and Aircraft B, any fuel added is an addition to the airframe. To give one more weight in fuel than the other is certainly going to effect its flight characteristics. It's not the same as comparing flight longevity, and then that's not even considering whether or not there is a desire to compare aircraft using a set gross weight and what it would take to achieve equal numbers there. That being said.. I'm not an aeronautical engineer or anything. So I'll not argue further, but since the subject was the turning speed of two aircraft and not the amount of time either is spending in the air.. seems to me equal amounts of fuel would only be fair. 1500lbs isn't exactly light. Think 3 gbu-12's and how a plane is effected dropping just one of them...minus the drag they would induce.
  4. Personally, again I'm not here to debate FM. But perhaps anyone that is here to provide input on FM or even just comparison data, along with required documentation, can at least use simple math if wanting to test by fuel weight to actually make the fuel weight equal as "fueled the same" would imply. Also making such an argument based on their own testing, might want to provide video evidence with instrument flight as empirical proof that one can perform an 100% coordinated turn in both aircraft, under the same atmospheric conditions. But more or less was just pointing out that claiming 30% of two different values is equal pretty much skews any test results that turned this into a 21 page thread.
  5. I'm not sure if this has been pointed out... and I'm otherwise not getting involved in a debate about flight models.. But the Flanker's fuel is measured in tonnes. Full capacity is 9.4 tonnes, or 18800 lbs. F-15C's internal fuel capacity is measured in lbs and maxes at something like 13,400 lbs or 13, 800 lbs. Hopping in both aircraft and fueling them both up to 30% is not "fueled the same". Flanker is carrying 5,640lbs of fuel. F-15c is carrying 4,140lbs of fuel. How much this would effect your "testing" I won't go as far to assume.. but there's 1500lbs difference in fuel weight there. Seeing as we're talking about the accuracy of an FM.. perhaps it'd be worth running your test with accurate fuel measurements.
  6. ... you guys should at least warn us before posting these NSFW pictures... J/k.. kind of. Loving the warthog grip on the gunfighter base. I just re-greased my warthog today.. feeling okay. Temptation resisted.
  7. Thanks. I could work around this with one of the many peripherals at my disposal I suppose including just adding a common modifier to all aircraft. I guess I'll just have to start using it and further my understanding of everything SRS is capable of. Some of the conversations I've had with some wingmates may have put ideas into my head that may or may not be correct. :)
  8. I use a combination of my keyboard, mouse, Logtiech G13, and a full hotas + rudder pedals.. and I still have room for voice attack for AI radio commands, and i still want a TM MFCD pack +1 for less mouse usage and it's invasion of my immersion. (Somebody stop me) The more I can limit using my mouse to things I need on the ground only, the more I like it. Personally, my throttle, stick, and g13 are far easier to fumble around and find specific keys than fumbling around on my keyboard while also trying to fly a plane.. that and my keyboard sits off to my right in flight. That's my stick hand man.
  9. No rage here, however, I have to disagree with the Harrier being useless, especially on say the ACG Coldwar server. Where one A-10C can travel far, loiter for hours and carry a huge payload, A flight of Harriers can do some serious damage. And then let's throw in the possibility of a JTAC or A-10C buddy lasing targets before the harriers can even get there. Slave TV to target area and CCRP to your hearts content with up to 12 gbus, or use that laser to quickly acquire a target picture for launching your 4 mavericks, or making that daring pass with sidearms attempting to knock out any radar, especially seeing as the SU-25T is the only flyable SEAD aircraft in the game (until we get AGM-88 HARMS with the F/A-18C) Sure, the Harriers can't loiter nearly as long but, flying solo isn't really a realistic representation of most/if any combat scenarios. 2 to 4 harriers could easily scoot to a target quickly, deploy armament and be back home.. using altitude to conserve fuel if need be. And again, as far as the Cold War server, the RWR and it's representation on the hud will give you a bee line to any mig-21's who dare to engage their radar emitters in your general direction, and you're able to carry 4 aim-9m's and use vectoring thrust to pull some crazy tight turns and/or fly low speeds to stay behind a target in a dogfight. Now don't get me wrong. I love the A-10C, but the harrier is probably one of the sweetest birds in the game at the moment unless you are against anything with BVR A/A capability. Pile that on with the fact that the UFC and MFCD's are also preparing us for some of the systems in the upcoming F/A-18C (such as TACAN, AWLS/ILS, STRS, moving map, FLIR/DMT).... I'm personally loving the Harrier. Not to mention the amount of learning required compared between the two platforms.. you could have an understanding of most of the implemented system for the Harrier with just a few videos.. and somewhere within 600 pages of A-10C manauls, there's still quite a bit to learn even years after first getting started with the Pig (for me at least) Both are great planes.
  10. Trying to come to grips with SRS Radio and am stumped on What to do for controls between various aircraft. IN FC3 aircraft I feel like I can easily give up a hatswitch for Radio 1, 2, 3 and Common PTT. However - when it comes to full fidelity pits, that same hatswitch could be any number of things as I tend to bind my hotas to be as close to the stick and throttle in the aircraft as possible. I.E. the hatswitch I'd use for FC3 aircraft is my countermeasures switch in say the Harrier, which also happens to be the comms switch in the A-10C. I've spent the last 30 minutes googling for answers, and was wondering if anybody who's already sorted this out could chime in and help clear up my confusion. Does SRS behave differently for clickpits? Or is there something I can do to get around this without rebinding keys every time I want to switch aircraft? Is this something people just get around with the use of a modifier? Did I just answer my own question by thinking just adding the same modifier to my clickpit controls and also making that a modifier for srs hotkeys may be the only solution? "Why are you popping flares?!?" asks Colt 1-2 "Just meant to say hi" says Colt 1-1. Sorry if this belongs in the mods and apps subforum, but I figure anybody using SRS is using it for multiplayer.
  11. THe most useful piece of information I can give you is that you can add a modifier IN GAME IN THE CONTROL MENU. It's in the bottom left of the control menu, click modifiers, click "Add" underneath the modifier box (not switches) , select the device you would like to create a shift state with and click the button you want to use. In doing this - any time you hold that button, every other button on every device you have attached to your pc in use for DCS is suddenly an additional button. You can add as many as you want, but I'm confident you can get yourself set up using just one. I.E. My stick has 19 buttons, my throttle has 34. If i assign the modifer to one button on my stick, stick minus modifer = 18 buttons x2 = 36, and my throttle 34x2=68 buttons. Holding the modifier down gives each button in your setup the capability for a second function. In the case of using an x52 throttle, it just doesn't have all the switches and buttons that come with the warthog throttle so, using the diagrams in the a-10c manual or whichever aircraft you want to fly, you should be able to figure something out using a modifier to add more buttons to your setup. Using the warthog stick, I find the pinky paddle to be a great modifier button. Just get it as close as you feel you possibly can to the actual throttle from the a-10c, using modifiers where needed. You can find the manual for the a-10c starting from your install directroy DCS World/mods/aircraft/A-10C/Docs/DCS A-10C Flight Manuel EN.pdf and within those 600+ pages, there is a diagram of the stick and throttle and what they do. If I read nothing else in DCS flight manuals, I always at least study the diagram of the stick and throttle. In the A-10C you control almost everything with the hotas. Familiarize yourself with the terminology of the buttons, i.e. china hat, coolie hat, boat switch.. will make the training missions easier. unfortunately - you may still need the Saitek SST software to utilize the little mouse stick on the throttle as TDC slew control. But it's the only thing I ever used SST for back when i had an x52 pro, at least regarding DCS. It can also be done in something a little more user friendly like Xpadder, which in my experience, comes without all the troubles that saitek software can. That's all you really need in the clickpits is controls for the stick and throttle, everything else you just click on with your mouse. Although, you can also add some thrustmaster cougar MFCD's to the setup for a little less on the mouse clicking.
  12. I've taken some missile hits in the F-15C and find myself bewildered as to why I'm still able to fly home. At times with only visible damage in the forms of holes and scrapes on the wings, other times pluming smoke behind me but still able to fly home and land. It's not every time, usually missile strikes send the f-15 spiraling down towards death, but this isn't something I ever recall happening in 1.5, where it's happened several times in 2.5.
  13. I'd like to rule out one suspicion. open notepad. add the two following lines; net.download_speed = 262144 net.upload_speed = 262144 save as; C:\users\xxxx\saved games\dcs.openbeta\config\autoexec.cfg If you already have autoexec.cfg for some reason, just add those two lines to it. Personally...this is a tiny fraction of my bandwidth. I still have to do the 2-3 minute wait while everything's loading in after connecting to get stable framerates, but I'm wondering if this is the difference between my ability to connect to blueflag/104th and others inability to. I'm not guaranteeing this will help anything.
  14. Use the "friction" slider for zoom broseph. The A-10C isn't using it otherwise. Also take some time and setup curves for your trackIR to make it more sensitive "faster" so that yuo don't have to crane your neck. Will help with the whole weirdness when zooming in and out.
  15. Personally - the M2000C is my vote for one of the best choices for a first full fidelity module in DCS. It is capable of both A2G and A2A, and probably has the least amount of systems to be concerned about while still having a fully functional and rather informative A2A radar system, as well as IFF to keep you from firing at friendlies. Other players, or AI controlled JTAC vehicles can buddy laze for you, allowing you to carry GBU-12's and have a hayday. That being said - the fighter jets from FC3 are currently the strongest a2a platforms in the game, with more pylons for armament and higher speeds, but you can learn to be sneaky in the m2k with appropriate radar usage, valleys and mountains, ECM usage. The A-10C is currently one of the strongest ground attack platforms in the game, but also comes with a 600 page manual and requires quite a bit more learning and is so ingrained with having a hotas setup closely to the stick and throttle in the pit for controlling most sensors and weapons. The harrier is also looking like it's going to be an awesome ground attack aircraft, and so far has been much easier for me to learn than the A-10C, but the version we have also has no A2A radar and afaik no IFF system. The F-5e is an awesome module, but its payload delivery methods are a bit antiquated, like the mirage it can also carry laser guided ordinance, but needs someone/something to buddy laze for you. Conventional bombing is a little involved and proper procedure requires knowing the target's elevation, and doing some simple math to determine which altitude to approach from and requiring a 20 degree dive. Its a2a it's limited like the harrier to aim-9's (short range) and no IFF system. (Not a problem if you are good at spotting and visually identifying, PROVIDED the server limits blue to western aircraft/red to eastern aircraft.) In an a2a situation, the FC3 jets and the mirage have the upper hand with their long range a2a radar systems. If the mirage isn't to your liking, I'd say the Harrier is probably next aircraft that is easiest to learn, which could hold it's own in close range dogfight, and delivers a2g ordinance in a much simpler method to understand than the F-5e3, while also having the option to carry the same targeting pod the A-10C carries as well as Maverick AGM's. The harrier has no training missions as of yet, but there are some good youtube videos for it and I found it not very difficult to learn. Do feel free to take some time to enjoy some of the aircraft in the FC3 package however. The F-15C, Su-27, and Mig-29A are air to air powerhouses. Despite "simplified" avionics..they're a bit more difficult to setup or learn due to the sheer amount of keybindings required rather than studying a diagram of a hotas from a flight manual, but with enough practice and knowledge it becomes second nature to operate the radar. I am an expert in none of these aircraft... I die A LOT lol..but I've put quite a few hours into each of them usually recommend to people to try FC3 first, and it's not long after that they're ready to try their first full fidelity module. I think the m2000c is probably one of the easiest to step into. And i can't help but recommend Blackshark 2 (the ka-50) as a first DCS chopper. I didn't intend to get so wordy, but it could be obvious I enjoy DCS World quite a bit. It's also worth mentioning, that the easiest way to learn any of these aircraft is probably to make some friends with people who are already into it. ;) Wingmen are vital to air combat.
  16. Did you try running as administrator? Use the start menu shortcut for update and right click - more - run as admin. Sorry if it doesn't work..just my best guess considering the updater can't delete a file and the fact that it's on your boot drive.
  17. ED and you devs keep taking my money. And I mean yeah.. I'm sitting here holding the dollars out like "please take my money." It's going to be tough juggling the education process of the harrier, the f/a-18c and also take the highway to the danger zone in the Tomcat... but.. it sure is going to be fricking awesome.
  18. No idea how to reproduce. Just reporting logs. This doesn't happen often but doing my part for teh beta. I have older logs of similar crashes before latest hotfixes as well if desired. dcs.log-20180211-025853.zip had to remove track file as it was 29mb.
  19. I just watched a sunset over the water on 104th Pheonix...which reflected over the water all the way to the coastline. Witnessing a furball take place 20km away in the dimming sky. Absolutely stunning. The ocean went from blue to orange to red before the night swallowed the sun whole. We then took out our mighty harriers, and the look of afterburners lighting up in the sky through our NVG's covering distance rather quickly was amazing to witness. Anyway. 2.5 is gorgeous, hopefully the hotfixes will start getting people having issues sorted out to where they can enjoy it too. Thanks again Eagle Dynamics for this taste of the future of combat flight sims and for bringing this level of pretty to your virtual Caucasus region . It's going to be a lonng spring waiting on the Hornet. ;) But so worth it.
  20. 2. more than likely...what can i say I'm not a pilot :P terminology sometimes evades me. whatever you call it, it's much easier to handle when you're not riding on the edge of stall speed.
  21. #1 thing to sort out imo is tanker speed. All aircraft have a guideline for speed while refueling. Unfortunately, the mission editor is limited to TAS, so have fun doing the math to get a proper IAS, which at least for me, is what I use to measure whether or not I'm flying above stall speed. Going too slow? Propwash will push you around, small changes in speed/pitch will have you plummeting like a brick underneath the tanker. While I am no master at AAR, getting the speed right (and some curves) helped me get my first successful fill up where I spent hours getting frustrated beforehand.

    32Gb vs 16Gb?

I'm running on 16gb of ram + system managed page file. In MP my page file usage gets up to about 13gb. Have been able to fly MP servers with 80-100 fps. As long as your SSD's and drives aren't filled to capacity, and they have room for paging and then some (because ssd's perform better when they have free space to operate) 16 gb of ram should be fine imo. Upgrading to 32gb of ram mostly eliminates the need for large page files. Biggest things that effect performance currently is any MSAA at all while using deferred shading, and as usual - Civ traffic is something I instinctively set to off. I also run my shadows flat. I'm most certainly maxing out my 980ti... but.. new gpus may be around the corner and it's almost impossible to find a reasonably priced 1080 Ti at present. That being said - sim's running plenty smooth for my tastes, minus the weirdness when first connecting to a server that I'm pretty sure ED's already aware about. To make up for the lack of MSAA, I've enabled FXAA in NV control panel as well as set the texture filtering quality to High quality with almost no impact on framerate. I've just kind of learned to accept the shimmer/jaggies from anything outside of a certain distance. Game's still gorgeous even if I think the sim needs some kind of post-processing AA (SMAA?) that works better with Deferred rendering.
  23. Just based on your system specs I feel like you should be able to run it as smoothly (especially in SP) as mine at the very least. You have way more ram and a slightly better video card. The only issue I've had personally with a fresh install of 2.5 on a fresh install of windows 10 with my current system aside from an occasional crash in multiplayer was something weird with g-sync. I'm not sure what it's all about but I was only getting 64 fps in the menu, and doing some research, enabling geforce experience overlay oddly enough fixed that. I run at 3440x1440 with my 980Ti. Before suggesting the routine of basic trouble shooting, are you trying to run with MSAA+Deferred shading? Even setting msaa 2x with DS on makes my framerate drop to about 47-60 fps from 80-100 fps. To reduce the effect of not having msaa I've set the image quality filter to High Quality for DCS in NV control panel which didn't effect the framerate too much. Im still debating whether turning on FXAA in nv control panel is actually doing anything. Also - what about civilian traffic? Personally I turn this off... it's always been a performance killer, and who needs civilians getting in the way when you're trying to blow stuff up anyway. Also be sure to "alt + enter" to see if changing between windowed/fullscreen improves performance in any way. Sorry if my suggestions are things you've already considered. If neither of those suggestions do anything for you, the only other suggestion I can make is to go through the routine of ensuring all your drivers are up to date, i.e. chipset drivers, sata controller drivers, even network drivers. Maybe run the vc_redist and repair in the DCS world install directory /distr/ (i think the dcs repair actually covers this but I could be mistaken) I'd even go as far as to boot into safe mode and run DDU and reinstalling the graphics driver from scratch. Personally, as my PC is mostly used for entertainment purposes I tend to reinstall windows from scratch if I can't fix a problem within a certain timeframe. That being said, please don't think I'm trying to blame you for this. I'm not ruling out the possibility of this being a bug in the client. There's just only so much we can do on the consumer end. DCS World unfortunately, tends to be software that I've done more troubleshooting on my own system for than pretty much any other game. The nature of this beast hehe. Also - I'll hop into some of the training missions, my experience is mostly from instant action and MP at the moment. *edit* - no stuttering in the A-10C training missions for me. I feel pretty confident there's something you can do to get things running smoothly. Unfortunately I can't pinpoint what that is. All I can say is double check everything, driver versions, ensure the CPU isn't overheating and throttling down (clean or replace heatsink and thermal paste generally solves that if on air, or the area between fans and radiators if on liquid). Windows update, all that jazz. I'm stating pretty basic stuff here, but that's just because I don't know what level of know how you have and what you may or may not have already done. Also - if the game does CTD it should generate log files you can upload to your thread. Someone with more know how might step up and see something we're not capable of. I've attached screen shots of my in-game settings and nv control panel settings whether or not they're actually doing anything, but allowing me to enjoy 2.5 (Ignore my v-sync forced off if not using a g-sync or adaptive sync monitor exceeding 60hz.) You will likely have to zoom in on the images to read them >.< *I have since turned anisotropic filtering to 16X for help reducing jaggies without much hit to framerate*
  24. Awesome. Looking forward to it. Starting up in the first mission with all the rain really brought out some of the beauty in 1.5. Going to be an awesome experience in the new client. Thanks for keeping us updated, and again for doing what you can to ensure we are able to continue enjoying the campaign.
  25. Sorry for necro'ing the thread, however, I've been trying to beat mission #2 of the f-15c bear trap campaign, as 2.5 is exciting and an excellent reason to go through single player campaigns again. Job is to protect the f-16's, but they get shot down by sa-19 sams well before any enemy aircraft get close enough to be a threat. I even tried flying low and trying to get the sams attention but they seem to prioritize going for the f-16's. The f-16's are launching agm's but they don't seem to be hitting anything and maybe get one off before being nailed. Never struggled much with this particular mission in 1.5 Unsure if you guys have gotten around to these campaigns for 2.5 yet, but I'm excited to fly them over the converted map.
