  1. 3080ti and G2 is still going to disappoint. Id recommend just keep on waiting if you can until the next gfx card series
  2. If you put on the HMD, fly for a few mins taking notes of all the faults and then go tune some settings and try again you will spend hours, get really frustrated and decide VR is just not right for you. The thing is that, for me at least, when you actually go fly it for a few hours you forget about all the imperfections, shimmering clouds etc. You just don't notice when your deep into a mission it all fades into the background. It will be great when the day comes you chuck the headset on and it all just looks great and then you go fly your mission at a constant 90fps but imo that could be easily 10+ years away still.
  3. Nooo, not yet. Vietnam is know for elephant grass taller then a person and triple canopy jungle so thick you cant see the sky from the ground which would take you an hour to walk the length of a football field. A Vietnam map they could not yet do justice. One day but not yet. But back on topic, thanks ED, Marianas is a great addition!
  4. I dont think we can expect perfection. I bet this is 100x better then if you compares caucuses between DCS and satellite which means things are steadily improving. I think the one of the standout things is that the houses and buildings in DCS need more definition or something. From distance they look like flat concrete pads like there was an earthquake and all the buildings have collapsed. Overall I think Marianas is great and a job well done.
  5. My G2 wont happily run from any usb ports on my B450 mobo but runs from the usb on my gfx card just fine. I had a week of problems at one point that was solved after reinstalling vmr for steam vr but apart from that the G2 has been amazing, running on 5600x and 6800 gfx card. Side note imo FOV is over rated. Sure put on a headset and look around and pay attention and there seems to be things that dont seem good enough like FOV but after a few mins in a game you don't notice or care about those anymore. I modded my G2 to improve FOV and it increases it noticeably but 10 seconds later you don't care anymore so switched back to more comfortable face plate instead.
  6. I'm pretty sure you would be better off with SSAA off and MSAA on for VR. I believe SSAA will do little for you but will hog resources a lot. Note SSAA doesn't take affect until you restart.
  7. Strong disagree. Run any complex multiplayer or single player mission and using fpsvr the cpu is often struggling. Why do you think people are saying potential multi threading with vulkan is going to be an improvement if there is no cpu performance limitations?
  8. Of the few VR games I play id say DCS is middle of the road optimized / performance. I am running a much lesser GPU then a 3090 and am often limited by my CPU which has a much higher single thread performance then your 5930K. You might be gpu limited sitting on the ground not doing anything but from my experience as soon as your actually in a mission your cpu would start limiting you. Back to the OP if you have enough money that you don't care if you spend $100 or $1000 or 10,000 then get a 3090. It might give you a few % performance points over something much cheaper like a 3080 otherwise is pretty much just throwing money away. If you want to upgrade id say get a AMD 5600x, 32gb ram, a RTX 3080 and a HP G2 headset. But don't expect to have a high res, super smooth, high fps experience. There is no hardware available yet that will give you that. Probably 15 mins into flying a mission you probably won't care anyway, still a great experience.
  9. Don't know why people read that as fm is 70% done. As its written It says changes to the fm is 70% done. As in fm was evaluated, decided it needed some changes/refinements and those changes are 70% done. Its going to be great to get the Kiowa but it will be delivered when pc are ready to deliver it and that's really all there is to it. Strange thing for people to get anxious about.
  10. I would probably just go a 5600X if you wanted to save a bit without sacrificing much. Where you would really be making a mistake though is "Secondary 2TB (2TBx1) Seagate SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 256MB Cache HDD". Don't get spinning disks, replace those with SSD. You wont have enough space for DCS and other games on your NVMe drive.
  11. There's a key combo to fullscreen DCS. Do that and then you will never lose focus
  12. 3090 is a waste of money imo such small or possibly no benefit at all over 3080. Anyone getting a new VR headset now should be getting a G2 and definitely not a Rift S. The G2 looks much better then the Rift S even at the same resolution and oculus have given up on the Rift S it will shortly be a dead product. OP your pc will be fine for running a G2
  13. DCS doesn't scale well. A way better gfx card only gives a little better experience. I have run a Rift S and a G2 on my 1070 and the G2 was far far better then the Rift S. Even if you turned the G2 res down to match the Rift S the screens are better in other aspects as well. Eventually I upgraded my 1070 to an amd 6800 but only got a minor improvement.
  14. It doesn't make any sense that a blurry g2 picture is somehow related to a motherboard chipset. More likely due to something like DCS being more resource intensive it's causing reprojection and the steam games you tried are designed and optimized for VR.
  15. There is no correct number but there is a number/position at which the headset is at its native resolution. At which point below that would be more significantly degraded image and above that will be a less improved image by comparison. I haven't used fpsVR but there is a good chance it just uses an api call or just reads a config value to get the resolution from steam vr which may or may not be reporting it correctly. Yep, an official word from steam or hp on the issue would be good
  16. Yes there is obviously an issue, my assertion is only that the 1:1 value appears to be somewhere above 50% in steam vr. In contradiction to a few posts in this thread which say to set steam vr to only 50%. Is the bug in the % number or is the bug in the listed resolution at that % number, it could be either. People say they get great performance with the G2 set to 50%, well I get better fps in a G2 at 50% in steam vr on a GTX 1070 (over 50fps) then I do with a Rift S set to 1.3 pixel density on a GTX 1070 so I have a lot of doubt that 50% in steam vr is producing the native panel resolution of the G2 headset.
  17. Up tp you if you believe it I guess. Plenty of references to it being a thing for anyone who is interested, 2 sec google search here's an example. "To account for lens distortion, a render resolution of 3024x3024 (x1.4 supersampling) may be optimal, but it's unclear at this point exactly how much is needed" Reverb G2 SteamVR Resolution Setting : HPReverb (reddit.com)
  18. From what I have read and my own testing seems to indicate, setting the steam resolution to 50% will output to the G2 at a lower resolution then the headsets native resolution. I believe that stated resolution is before the image is distorted/warped to what is displayed on the headset panels and that 3024 x 3024 would produce a final image that is closer to the headsets panels native resolution of 2160 x 2160.
  19. Damage to my plane looks great but it seems to me like the AI has gone invincible. Plenty of hits, flashes and info showing up saying hit AI (without % indication though) but they never go down. Anyone else having issues like this? edit: nevermind found only the spits machine guns was mapped to my stick trigger
  20. Its been normal for pcs to come with only SSD drives for many years and they definitely don't crap out the drives every three years
  21. The Flying Kiwis run a server out of Australia and fly helis on Chopper Tuesdays 8pm NZDT (New Zealand time). Mostly kiwis and aussies, at least one based out of asia (Thailand), typically 20+ flying on Tuesdays Pretty casual but best to jump on the discord first if your keen, then youll get a heads up about what the mission is that week plus they also use it for general voice comms https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=255540
  22. Couldn't AAR when I only played single player but I never really needed to so I never practiced much. Now I play a lot of multiplayer where AAR is normal in a mission and general formation flying is fairly common as well and can now AAR with hornet and harrier fairly easily. Dont bother, some people just don't develop the social skills to become a fully functioning adult and communicate in constructive ways. Best ignored.
  23. People are like DCS runs crap, its always going to be slow etc etc. I don't know what you guys are on about, min 45fps in a 4k headset like the HP G2 sounds pretty awesome to me. It looks like OP here isn't able to push a 3080 with his current vr headset. Still very interesting to check out and read about and probably informative with people who have and will stick with low res originaly VR headsets. Seemingly not all that relevant to people who have or are getting higher res headsets.
  24. +1 for a used HP Reverb G1
  25. Software is hard, incredibly hard. Having big teams working on the same thing is not as efficient in terms of man hours for value as smaller teams working on specific isolated things. So things take time and so far the super carrier early access release and pace of updates is consistent with other DCS releases. Personally id rather have the super carrier as it is now with some bugs and missing functionality then not have it now and be waiting for it to be more complete before release. If anyone would rather the other way around then they have the option of not using it yet or waiting until full release until buying it.
