Agree I was thinking of GB Aourus but for 9600K I went for the cheaper but still OK Asus Z390A Prime, the GB equivalent would be fine at that price point. The 9700K and 9900K are nice CPU's but I still think high clock low cost is the go for DCS for now, AD 's 8350K is also a great choice. I only get to use just over 30% CPU usage with 6 cores 12 threads. Also the 9900K is 2 core @ 5GHz out of the box nice, but a 9600K all cores at well maybe 4.9 to 5Ghz + for me at half the price is good value.

I should mention the PC build is for my wife. :D I had some hand me down parts from my upgrades on hand. Phanteks Anthoo Evolve ATX case (tough build glass on both sides. :) ) A case I had i5 9600K buy Noctua NH-15D cooler A cooler I had. Asus Prime Z390A buy EVGA 750W G2 buy Ino 3D 1080Ti (my old GPU) 32GB Corsair Vengeance 2666 4*8GB (my old RAM) Intel 545 series 500Gb SATA 6 SSD (my old SSD) Windows 10 Pro buy I'm sure you'll also find your build pretty good as well.

Ethics eh, bullet,... grenade,... nuke,... IED,... land mine,... missile. War is not exactly ethical it's about killing in the most efficient way possible and impacting the most physiological damage possible, just think about it. DCS is just pixels no different to any other FPS except way more fun perhaps. :D Having said that I'm not so sure about nukes, not from an ethical POV more from a game play POV. Game play. We've got the bomb Oh game over that was quick,.. :megalol:

Yes I just built my Mk1 pedals and coming to terms with muscle memory although it's more like that of the Huey so it's very different to the action of my old combat pros. Could I suggest dialing in about +8 ~+12 for curvature on both X and Y axis with no other curves, that will reduce the sensitivity over center at the increase of cyclic effect as you apply more deflection to cyclic. That should enable you to have more travel so you get to push the stick around more for normal maneuvering. As you get more used to how it handles you can dial out some or all of the curvature. I know I struggled with the short throw of a joystick when I started DCS and I mostly fly rotary. :)

Should be good I have just completed a 9600K/Asus Prime Z390 build myself and it's pretty impressive given I used my 1080Ti in it although I just used 500GB SATA 6 SSD. Passmark tests has it right on the heels of my rig and when I OC the 9600K it may even beat my rig. :shocking: :megalol: As for DCS I have a goodly collection of aircraft a couple of campaigns and all the maps and that is about 150GB.

Try adding some curvature to X and Y axis, I wouldn't recommend adding dead zone at all and speaking of such go into DCS->options->misc-> and ensure the FFB option is un-ticked this is important for Gazelle as it can impose a sort of dead zone right in the center of the cyclic action. As an indication for basic maneuvering and keep in mind I effectively have a 25cm extension I would use only a few millimeters to maybe 5mm (a few 1/16 to a 1/4") of travel, that's pickup hovering hover taxing set down etc. Whilst I am not familiar with the X56 one of the issues I had for DCS helicopters and especially the Gazelle was the mechanical centering and springs in the joystick it really makes fine control difficult.

32GB of RAM is fine for DCS but your right I just finished a 9600K/Asus Prime Z390 for my wife and it looks better with all 4 slots loaded. :) I think people push the idea that only using 1 stick per channel allows for higher overclocking but the RAM I had was 4 * Corsair Vengeance 2666 which the mobo clocked at 2800 just by selecting XMP, and no I didn't argue with that. :D Your call but keep in mind if you go the 2 by 16GB sticks now in 12 months time (or so) you may not be able to source the same spec RAM modules. I don't think you get improvements in FPS with more RAM but for me DCS doesn't seem to access the HDD after it loads, you will get improvements with faster RAM
-
You should try an R44,.. :P If your using a joystick it can be a tad challenging, I have effectively a 25cm (10in) extension on the gimbal and it's mounted so that i's between my legs as in the Gazelle etc. and for minor maneuvering and hovering it is just slight pressure on the cyclic. If you are using a joystick try stacking some books beside the joystick to rest your wrist on, for most of my helicopter flying I use 2 fingers and thumb and apply slight pressure on the cyclic as needed. Because the Gazelle cyclic is totally centric in action* you could add some curvature to the X and Y axis to reduce the sensitivity whilst you get used to it. Also map the hat switch to the trim function the trim function is much finer in control but I don't use it though. *I'm not sure why it's like that.

Wait till you either learn to fly it or you get decent controls this is one aircraft that a twist action joystick wont work well with.

Rudel_chw is correct, keep in mind the modules protected by Starforce need to be deactivated by following the process for each module that has the "DRM" label. The process is convoluted and you need to be methodical when doing the deactivation because DCS does not show you if the module is active or not. Also do not do this if you have VR enabled you should disable VR before proceeding. Click on the "DRM" for the associated module. A dialog box will appear. Click on activate/deactivate text and another dialog box will appear, look for the blue hypertext link saying "deactivate module" about half way down this dialog box. DCS will contact the server and after a few seconds should display another dialog box saying the module is successfully deactivated. You need to carefully work through each module that you wish to deactivate. You can then check your modules state in your ED profile, star force it self is not so bad it's the stupid convoluted brain dead management process that sucks.:(

Radeon VII, what do you guys think ?
FragBum replied to BitMaster's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think the VRAM may help normally Sp I get between 5 and 7GB VRAM usage for SP and on MP servers I get over 10GB VRAM usage. I would hang in there and wait a while. -
Modified Logitech 3D Pro, no centre detent.

Oh I say well out with the combat pro pedals and in with the Mk1's connected to the Leo Bodnar a few tweaks in settings as the output voltage is .8ish to 4.3ish volts from the sensor and voila! Compared to the combat pros these are as smooth as silk no play in them at all, I still need to add the damper(s) But more testing, mmm which helicopter next,.... :pilotfly: -
No worries, I'll play with CPU voltages after I get the RAM sorted CPU is still stock voltages. I took the RAM out and cleaned the edge connectors and wiped them down with Deoxit and reseated them. I enabled XMP 1.35V from memory and I could only get a stable system at 2200Mhz but I tried lowering the volts and got it down t 1.25~1.26V. Under XMP however the RAM does not run at the rated 3200Mhz.
-
I'll pose a question here for those with computer knowledge. I removed heat sink and RAM cleaned the edge connectors on the RAM re-assembled, seems to work okay @ 2133 but to get the RAM to run at 2.2Ghz I have to set RAM voltage to 1.26V where the PC seems stable and fairly consistent memory throughput. RAM will run at 2.4Ghz with full XMP voltage but it's not stable. Previously I had the RAM running at 2.4GHz at stock voltage (Auto actually but 1.2V) Considering that I have "changed" thermal conditions in the case could this be normal or perhaps indicate a RAM Module or System Controller chip dying? So far the boot problem seems "fixed" and oddly by disabling USB boot in bios?? CPU runs happily at 4.7GHz (but I might be able to get that to 4.8~4.9 if I try)

Or,.. Someone tried to create an account with the same user name as one that already exits the software is not as obvious as it could be if you put in an existing "user" name in when creating an account. I'm not saying don't be concerned just that it may not be sinister, the only reason I say this is I tried to create a second account a while back and the software seems to be asking to enter a password as you create the account only to offer you to request to change user password via email.

Dead Zone In Cyclic Input, it's back and a Work A Round.
FragBum replied to FragBum's topic in Bugs and Problems
Just keep it in mind if you do a fresh install I don't have a FFb joystick either and I have been trouble shooting my computer (that's another story) and got to a point of putting a new SSD in and a couple of OS/DCS reinstalls latter but for some reason that tick box is enabled. It's just been a long time since the "previous" OS/DCS build. Now I remember the grief it causes. I'll test that next week when I do another DCS computer build. -

Found it check in Options->Misc->FFB uncheck this box! I'm not sure why this is even enabled by default when you reinstall DCS  -
Dead Zone In Cyclic Input, it's back and a Work A Round.
FragBum replied to FragBum's topic in Bugs and Problems
Just to clarify this is an issue that occurs from time to time I have no "dead zones" set nor do I want them. I'm not exactly sure what causes this issue, there is continuous linear movement of the cursor in the 'controls display" but no input to the "Gazelle" until the cursor leaves the center and the dead spot seems about the size of the cursor. I have built/hacked/cobbled together a cyclic and collective and using a Leo Bodnar USB controller so I don't have dead zones in those inputs. Also working on better physical controls to improve resolution as well. Polychop have stated that there is no "dead spot" programmed into the Gaz however it seems it could be an issue that occurs during installation I don't know. What I do know is it's annoying as hell to fly with in this state hence the "work around". Can only say the cyclic of an R44 is indeed sensitive and yes it's only *pressure on it for fine control and no dead spot. My first hover was more like an impromptu dance rather then a hover. :D *Or just a quick blip of the cyclic in the direction for correction. -
I am currently expericing some issues with my X99 motherboard but I have a 9600K and Asus Z390 Prime mobo coming should have it by maybe Monday I'll try and OC hopefully to 5GHz (if the silicon lottery is kind to me :) ) but until recently I was running 4.7Ghz OC on my 5930 and 2.4Ghz DRAM all 8 slots which improves memory speed it's now back down to 2133. The performance difference going back down in CPU clock rates is noticeable especially say 4.7 to 4.5Ghz. Don't forget whilst it's only 200Mhz different that's on all cores admittedly DCS may not use all cores but Rift and other stuff does. Oh and what puny memory throughput these 9th Gen CPU's have and only 2 memory channels not to mention only 16PCI lanes. :P Oh and there is some madness in my method the new build will be my partners but I'll do some serious testing of it whilst my X99 pro goes back for evaluation and hopefully replacement. A side question are you able to run XMP with your X99?? As that is one thing this mobo has never done.

The price,.. :P Not that simple different GPU's with different features. 2080 info here 2080Ti specs here 2080 uses TU104.400A-A1 8GB GDDR6 2080Ti uses TU102-300A K1 A 11GB GDDR6 As such comparing raw clock frequencies is not helpful the Ti has more of everything packed into it.

nVidia 418.81 huge performance drop
FragBum replied to Lixma 06's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
No didn't notice that although only using Rift here usage seems to go from 50 to mid 80s' % NTTR on my test mission. I don't know if it's placebo but Rift image seems better but I've just done a fresh OS and DCS install. -
You fly the Huey without pedals, I could only maybe fly the KA-50 without pedals. You'll need pedals for the Gaz. Nah I say pedals for all of em. :D Oh and yes different people but I think we have the same passion. :)

:) But I get a T-Shirt right. :D

Force feedback alignment bug with curves
FragBum replied to hazzer's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
I'd add for hellis if you can support your wrist a stack of books anything just for support, it should help with fine control. I normally use thumb and 2 fingers for cyclic input but I also rest my wrist on my thigh for support when flying. :)
