Just to add from my experience a joystick may not be the best for helicopter cyclic doubly so for the Gazelle. I have made a cyclic using a gimbal from a 3D pro which has no springs and no centering but has dampers to provide some resistance to movement with effectively a 25cm extension. The cyclic of the Gazelle seems rather sensitive but it also seems about as sensitive as that of an R44 with this setup. (no I am not a pilot) The reason I mention this is until I built the cyclic I found the Gazelle twitchy and just for context that was in the original FM comparatively it is tame compared to previous FM. Saturation/curves may help initially until you get accustomed to it, but a mechanical center detent and springs and a short throw joystick mask a lot of the fine control input which saturation/curves may kinda help with. As I understand there are some "issues" that have been taken on board by PC and will be addressed.

Okay looking at it I started getting BSOD's a few months back, WHEA and watch dog timer errors which I dismissed as maybe software errors but that and the fact the mother board never did run XMP with 2 different sets of RAM, wouldn't do it's automatic over-clock right from the get go. although RAM and CPU preform very well with a mild manual OC when it boots. The bios/uefi was updated to the latest version only a week ago I was thinking it might be a OS/bios issue but even dropping all OC settings out it's still has this boot issue. Thinking about it I have had this weird boot problem since day one although at the time I put it down to using an intel 750 series PCIe NVME SSD it's just gotten much worse recently and that's with a SATA SSD boot drives now. I've just recently pulled the NVME drive out and prior to that NVME drive has preformed very well as a data drive. It does point to a dodgy mother board good news is it's still under warranty! I'll wait and see what the supplier says about this.

Indeed he has witnessed my flying. :D

Well fortunately the GPU is still working but I fear the mother board is failing I'm getting random boot failures along the lines of think Holly from Red Dwarlf . PC from windows boot manager, I cant' boot today John there's no boot drive. Me But I just checked from command line C:\ is still there. Do a repair again,.. PC user account "John" password? Me yes here is my password types it in. PC sorry John no boot drive can't boot today. Now it seems everything is correct MBR did all the fixes, It now boots between 4 and 10 restarts this is the 3rd SSD that has gone weird. The irony for me is the "no boot drive found" yet all the command line tools say it's fine and yet it seems to work for a while after re-installing Windows then becomes intermittent.

Nah, I get it all the time, he is probably thinking about all the virtual paperwork he has gotta do one more time. :D Mi-8 's not a bad ride and surprisingly agile given it's weight ,. Mind you I would also like some of those helis in your list, waiting. :music_whistling:

If you unscrew the speakers you can test by putting them on the opposite side to see if it's a speaker or the interconnect cable. Before you buy new slpeakers. I'm shipping my Rift back today this one is just under a year old.so under warranty just.

Modified Logitech 3D Pro, no centre detent.
FragBum replied to FragBum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Alright here at Frag labs I got some time to make the prototype torque pedals Next fitting damper and UGN3503 then work out how to compact the design for my sim pit. :) -
FWIW if you can afford it get the Mi-8 as well. Pedals are different because the rotor spins in the opposite direction. Cyclic is a lot more responsive in Gazelle compared to the other helicopters I have a 25cm extension and that seems about right for me with no curves etc. Something to keep in mind depending on what you use for cyclic control is the centering mechanism can be a hassle for fine control of the Gazelle.

Best way to transfer files to new Computer
FragBum replied to Flans99's topic in Payment and Activation
I know of one other user that has had issues with non Starforce managed modules asking for key numbers. Link here. I can only say for me, I rebuilt my PC's OS and DCS system this last weekend and only re-installed a few modules and maps that were using the new system with no issues. Maybe raise a ticket -
PCI 3 x16 vs x8 DCS performance
FragBum replied to fulcrum_64th's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Perhaps not by much at least, although would need to factor in how much more your 9900K will feed the GPU(s) it's a shame the CPU only has 16 lanes. tests PCIe laneways for GPU HTH -
That's weird, I bought the Gazelle back when it was under starforce, but recently it seems to have gone over to the new system and even this weekend I did a new Windows and DCS install and DCS never asked for a key, it's keyless now, apparently. If you login to your DCS account go to purchases check your Gazelle purchase iog to details is there a Key number there? There is for my Gazelle (s) maybe copy that key and paste it in when asked during install. Yes I bought a few extra helis and planes as I want to set up a different PC and account for my partner, WIP. If that doesn't work raise a ticket, the DCS response is usually quick.

The point I was making is at least the cheaper sticks have a built in dead zone, nothing to do with DCS/PC settings as such, but none the less that "feature" can be a source of control issues if a user where using one. The other gotcha to keep in mind is in DCS>Options> Misc> Gazelle is to ensure you have the FFB sliders set to zero otherwise this can mess with cyclic input for non FFB joysticks. From my experience I prefer no dead zone in the inputs some folks do, personal preference YMMV.

Now a tickbox option for doors would be awesome, I like the mini gun version because of the of almost unrestricted view especially from the LH seat, it would also be nice to loose the mini gun should save about 200KG inc gunner and ammo. ;) Might also give you a "slick" option for the other variants. However if PC were to offer a "civi" variant or 2, I'd be happy to pay for them. Nice skins by the way.

Why would you want doors,..that makes no sense, why? :D

No well maybe I don't have a TM Warthog,.. I don't know. :P

That's great, enjoy.

Yep that's how they go, sure is expensive, I actually bought a spare Rift on sale I ended up with another 2 sensors and hand controllers and a new face interface and cable and a HMD and a pair of ear speakers for a good price, but yeah the individual item cost's are not so palatable. You know your addicted when,.. Looking at you dburne. :D  It would also have been good to be able to replace the interconnect that causes either speaker or LED to dropout as well. I have one going back to Oculus just now.

Wow, initially just set up the bare minimum of buttons, I'm not a CH user nothing against them I have never used their products but with versatility and functionality comes complexity as well as DCS adds another layer of complexity not only the aircraft but also weapon systems so the setups can be very engaging and complex. Maybe grab the Yak or CE2 and start there small steps can build the foundations for more complicated modules latter.

Okay see my response in your other Gazelle thread. I know what you mean by jittery landings vid here. :D Although ignore my attempt at flying more important look at the controls indicator and you'll see just how little cyclic input is needed. Maybe crank in some curvature and gradually wind curvature out as you become accustomed to it. Two things I find. The Gazelle is a ton of fun to fly. All the DCS helicopters tend to build on each other as you gain experience.

At the moment I'm between Windows builds however I have a modified gimbal from a logitech 3D Pro with a 25CM extension sand a Leo Bodnar USB interface so it's kinda very different. The point I was making is the cyclic input is very sensitive compared to other DCS helicopters there are a couple of other gotchas as well using a joystick. It seems joysticks (3D Pro and others) have a "deadspot" in the centre of travel that corresponds to the mechanical centering of the joystick. This combination frustrated me in the early days of flying the Gazelle because with such a sensitive cyclic fine control was difficult because with slight movement nothing would happen then just a slight bit more movement and you would roll or pitch way more than intended hence the so called twitchy behaviour. More info here. You could try adding curvature to reduce the effect but that deadspot will still be annoying, another help is to stack some books or an object beside your joysick to support your wrist that helps kinda equivalent to my setup where I rest my wrist on my thigh. A quirk of the Gazelle is the cyclic action is centered I don't know why it just is so curvature is fine saturation is also fine to get started but in all honesty try and get/make a cyclic it will make all helicopters easier to fly. :D With all helicopters less input is more control doubly (because your not over-correcting and correcting all the time) so for the Gazelle even with a 25cm extension most "normal" flying I might use maybe up to 10mm of cyclic travel, I use more when doing some hard manoeuvres and for just normal flying 2 fingers and thumb is all that is required. Another observation if your using a joystick map trim to the hat switch it seems to provide a fine level of control which can help. Some more musings on controls here. Apologies I know you asked a simple question and I kinda wrote a novel. :)

Look TBH I'm happy enough with it, I wont get into the FM arguments but as a DCS module it's fine, I will say the input controls that you use will make a tremendous difference to how you perceive this module. YMMV.

Umm check out your local trophy shop they (at least here) also can usually do engraving in soft metals and perspex and will also be able to do other materials, might be an option.

That is interesting, glad to see your sorted.

Going through this on my second Rift, waiting for "shipping instructions", it's a shame simple replaceable parts aren't well more easily replaceable. All I can say is I miss the built in head phones for ease of use. :(

Sigh,.. :(
