Without any log files can't really say however be aware you should update drivers etc for 2.5.4 also some mods are not compatible with 2.5.4 there have been a few threads regarding making sure your system is up to date and that mods be removed until they have been confirmed as working okay.

I don't know Caucasus looks pretty good. :D Cough, 90FPS, I haven't seen 90FPS in game since 2.3.x with a 4GHz cpu and a 980Ti with shadows, that's a year now since deferred shading became a thing with 2.5. Indeed last night I was basking in the joy of having shadows on buildings and in the cockpit it's been a while but that has taken 2 GPU upgrades and O/Cing to achieve albeit now at 45FPS. :( I'm pretty sure I could crack 90FPS but I'm not prepared to reduce resolution or fly at 20000ft or both to achieve it. I'm okay with 45FPS (been like that for a year now) as long as it's smooth and constant. :) However the point I was making is for me it seems the other maps have taken a rather large performance hit in 2.5.4.

I have had limited experience in fixed wing and R44 the cyclic feels somewhat different to any of the stick input in a fixed wing, the first difference is the very small amount of input needed for the cyclic my first hover practice was more a series of dance moves. :megalol: Have a look at the vid I linked in your Visual ref thread or in my VNE thread here and look at the amount of cyclic movement it's more a slight nudge in the direction I want correction as opposed to really pushing the stick, that's not to say I sometimes don't push it hard. :D Some musing regarding Gazelle and cyclic input. I have modified/customised my cyclic and have a 25CM extension on the gimbal and the Gaz needs just slight inputs a gotcha is the built in dead zone and center detent most joysticks have is way too limiting to fly the Gaz with out constant trimming and likely the source of most complaints re Gazelle control, and no I don't need use to trim. :music_whistling: I duno try setting dynamic weather I once had a brain fart an =d set weather in NTTR not taking into account Nevada is some 1900 above MSA. more than 100KPH winds. :megalol:

Yeah most things high, PD 1.4 works on Caucasus, but needs to be lowered for good performance on PG, Normandy. Although NTTR PD can be and needs to be taken up to 1.8~2.0. just to bring the aliasing to something reasonable. This seems to be a significant difference to 2.5.3 Having said that the Caucasus looks and preforms great I can get good performance form the other maps but that is with poorer visual quality in 2.5.4 compared to 2.5.3. Now because there is such a spread in map performance rather than having a compromise "setting" I would need to have a setting for each map which seems odd. I do realise each map has it's own CPU/GPU usage requirements but these requirements have changed. The PG map seems to be somewhat bugged with areas not even in built up areas where frame rates drop for no reason. I'm sure it will get sorted by the publishers well maybe we are still waiting for Normandy to be fixed. Maybe DCS needs some optimising but the other maps also seem to need some fixing as well.

I think the old starforce system is a PITA, fortunately when I did a recent upgrade I noticed more of my modules and all the maps where over on the new system tied to user account. Don't get me wrong I understand copy protection is a necessary thing but as you say it need not be that difficult. Good to see your back up and running.

I'll qualify that,.. After tweaking for good performance and image quality on the Caucasus map (I've given up trying to make them all work kinda well) the other maps have some serious issues. Which is a shame as it's all the paid for maps that are not performing.* So keeping settings constant. NTTR is an aliasing nightmare. PG and Normandy just gives constant stutters and frame rate drop. Changing the 1080Ti to a 2080Ti just gave some more headroom/eye candy (4-Jan) 2.5.4 for my system in general can now use more CPU resources (yes I rolled back to 2.5.3 and confirmed it) and map dependent, DCS itself is faster to load feels more responsive and even logging onto MP servers seems faster. Initially after the update I could increase some GPU settings slightly with the 1080Ti over 2.5.3 however to my way of thinking it's the maps. Now Nineline stated that there were no VR updates in 2.5.4 but in my experience and looking at the VR performance issue threads (even mine) something has affected overall performance and image quality. *Map performance under 2.5.3 it was possible to get a reasonable compromise on all maps with careful tweaking but now I just give up.

True, 2.5.4 has been an interesting change to DCS World and I have observed different behaviour and performance and although I have totally muddied the waters by upgrading a GPU mid evaluation. Meh, over all for me it's getting a lot better. IMHO. Better 45FPS less so PG and Normandy Smoother Less ASW Shadows Rift image quality getting better. Can I has MSAA * 8?

Looks awesome. -
Oh c'mon surely soon, Wags has mentioned it, don't spoil the illusion. :D Although 2.5.4 seems better so far. :music_whistling:

Improved AI was mentioned for the Mi-24 when it was announced.

Yes and no, the track will attempt to use the head movement from the flight, press numpad 5 to re-centre and it should work normal whilst the track plays back. See how that works.

:megalol: Nice. :D

Getting very poor image quality in Rift with 2.5.4
FragBum replied to FragBum's topic in Virtual Reality
Alright I did an experiment last night and rolled back to 2.5.3 just to see why I perceived there was such a drastic change to Rift VR with 2.5.4. Okay 2.5.3 center field of vision/near field good with a gradual soft focus effect as in game objects go into peripheral vision, alright that is normal and really works well I can identify an object and as it tracks away into my peripheral vision it gets less detail, that is how it works. 2.5.4 same conditions as 2.5.3 near field objects look great with the same overall effect as described above but with lashings and I mean a super serve of aliasing artifacts on medium to long distances and objects in peripheral. I can and did live with some aliasing artifacts but under 2.5.4 it's the visual equivalent of objects screaming at you for attention as they move into peripheral vision. I guessing this is why the image quality is perceived as worse. Axelerator described the effect here in another thread linky which prompted me to do the test last night. I'm not sure if it's the MSAA not working as near feild objects and textures look good in Rift. Perhaps there is some mask to reduce the processing PD, AF, MSAA and hence reduce aliasing for objects outside a certain field of view that isn't applied?? The effect is slightly different in all 4 maps Caucasus and PG seem to have a little less artifacts than NTTR and Normandy and the monitor image s fine and sharp as a tack. -
That is AWESOME NEWS.

No that's your wife lifting the HMD and waking you up so you can go to bed. :megalol: :D

I guessing it depends on many variables and which parts of the brain dies first, problem is no one ever comes back. Fade to Grey it is,.. Umm or "Game Over" :D

I can't really say as far as Steam VR goes as I haven't used it. Maybe someone with Steam VR experience could chime in. But I would look at maybe turning SS etc off and use PD etc within DCS or vice versa and tweaking your settings so you can at least lock in 45FPS with minimal ASW or I guess Motion Smoothing.
-
Can only say the DCS is getting some VR improvements soon, long story short there was a convergence of DCS versions last year and some changes under the bonnet which impacted VR performance. Similar spec machine I run PD @ 1.2 and MSAA @ *4 and AF @ *16 and get pretty much constant 45FPS in game in built up areas close to the ground so you should be able to achieve that. Maybe do some tweaking with settings and gauge CPU and GPU usage with taskmanager or something I aim to keep the GPU usage to average 80% it does ramp up and down. Also the maps have different overheads NTTR being the fastest least resource hungry and Normandy the most resource hungry. As well different aircraft can impact on CPU/GPU usage. HTH

And they say you actually white out, just saying.

I think they removed HT so as not to compete with the 9900K it's a better CPU out of the box period, the 9700K might be better value as a gaming CPU. :D

New Z390 Build Upcoming - finally!
FragBum replied to dburne's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Absolutely, the 9900K is out of the box faster with 2 cores @5 GHz to all 8 cores at (& HT) @ 4.7 GHz and yes for batch processing better, however for DCS alone (and most games) a 9700K might be better value. Still waiting for GPU or DCS to catch up. Especially in VR. Both 9900K and 9700K only have 2 memory channels. Interesting times. -
Perhaps so, as I noted my system got an improvement with better memory throughput.

Best Driver for a 1080 Ti
FragBum replied to Cavemanhead's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Mmm 1080Ti or 2.5.4? Oddly 2.5.4 update gave me this perception as well, initially even close to "peripheral" vision appeared well blurry over 2.5.3 VR image quality. I went through different settings just to attempt to get the same perceived image quality back. I cant answer your question other then for me something seems to have changed in VR with 2.5.4. -
Best Driver for a 1080 Ti
FragBum replied to Cavemanhead's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
NineLine actually recommends updating to the the latest nVidia firmware for 2.5.4 so maybe it fixes some code incompatibilities with previous nVidia firmware and SDK. OC, not yet but it's been like "Apple" stable for the last week. But I do have to give some attention to heat they 2080Ti 's (this one) seems hotter than the 1080Ti. AMD has put up some offerings at CES as well, I also understand that nVidia may have, shock horror a "30xx" series maybe last 3/4 this year so if your okay with the 1080Ti wait, also the upcoming DCS VR improvements should help with some of the performance issues. :D -
Best Driver for a 1080 Ti
FragBum replied to Cavemanhead's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well I still only get 45FPS* however I do have more eye candy and get to add some more PD and AF filtering and shadows and way less ASW, all those trinkets with probably more head room. I don't push the GPU to 100% I tend to try and keep it to an average of around 80% to reduce the incidence of frame drops aka stutters. But folks that's DCS currently. I'd be confident in saying that a >4.5ishGhz CPU can easily drive this card to 100% in DCS. Having said that I think the 2080Ti is a great update as far as an upgrade in GPU is concerned it's not chalk and cheese but none the less a significant hardware upgrade. Is the cost worth it maybe if it was about parity cost to the 1080Ti it would have felt like a reasonable thing depending on your take on bleeding edge tech costs but the cost is IMO too high. I don't feel bad about buying it as I am building a second VR machine and it makes no sense to get the 2080 as it's really about at the 1080Ti level, as BitMaster puts it "we're a slave to the machine" that is DCS. *Now I mostly fly helicopters and mostly low so a silky smooth 45FPS with as good an image quality as I can get is about normal for me at least and I haven't seen 90FPS in VR in game since deferred shading became a thing and my old 908Ti.
