  1. Looks good.
  2. Yes FPS or at least sudden or abrupt changes in FPS tend to lessen the immersion or drop you out of the MATRIX so to say, where as perceived motion and or change in orientation without balance feedback can cause motion disorientation, even motion sickness. :D
  3. FWIW For stick just use saturation, curves change the input vs output around the center of of stick movement making input non linear as you move the stick further from center. Where as saturation scales down the sensitivity over the whole range. It's that they are 2 different effects with similar affect in center but different affect as you move away from center. Oh BTW if you have noise in the joystick it's probably time to replace the pots or the joystick depending on the unit.
  4. Actually just for $ hits and giggles I dropped most of the eye candy and well I could even crack 90FPS on Normandy just, not enough headroom to record a clip at the same time. But Normandy is the most demanding map. DCS settings used for testing here PD was at 1.1 as you can see there is some wiggle room there. Although the PG map was already a tad iffy holding 90FPS Short clip 90FPS on ground I was able to hold mostly 90FPS at the airport whilst not recording but that would no doubt drop in built up areas knowing how the PG preforms Unsurprisingly Caucasus and NTTR did well holding 90FPS in the test series and I feel I could have a couple more incremental increases in some parameters. Whilst I could have likely optimize setting further to be honest I much prefer 45FPS and as much eye candy I can have without dropping below 45FPS. Speaking of eye Speaking of eye candy NTTR shadows and all 90FPS just don't look back towards Nevada. I can remember getting that with my old 980Ti. That's with These settings and PD = 1.3. So what we really need is much better faster and dare I say multi-threaded rendering and image quality from DCS, it seems CPU bound ATM. So until we get VR improvements I'm going back to 45FPS with eye candy. But I will do some more testing. @svsmokey I don't know what the answer is hardware wise TBH if I wasn't planning another PC build I wouldn't have the 2080Ti* and as much as it does well it really only brings some eye candy and some headroom when things get busy. As for CPU 9900K although currently for me it will likely be a 9700K bang for buck as I doubt even a *9900K at 5.2Ghz will really help DCS in a significant way currently. Although i get it and gain is all additive of course. :D * Although it's mesmerizing watching it do the fractals in the Performance Test software.
  5. VR for me, the choice might be partly personal preference. If you want immersion it's VR all the way but you do loose resolution which can be a disadvantage for some. You hardware will be an influencing factor but if your prepared to not have all the eye candy still doable on modest hardware. Harlikwin posted some info on using low end hardware Link here Be warned if you fly rotory VR is a game changer.
  6. Actually I can now crack 90FPS in NTTR now so it is doable admittedly away from built up areas and at 50 ish mtrs. :) But I am at the limits of the GPU now. :smilewink:
  7. Oh still doesn't work, try uninstalling your GPU software,.Power off the system and switch off at the wall socket. Ensure the GPU is correctly seated and locked in and correct power connectors are connected. Re-power and restart install nVidia 417.71 And try again.
  8. The other option is to wait, AMD are releasing new CPU's AM4's as well as new GPU Radeon VII they may not be at the 2080Ti level but might be up there with 1080/2070 offerings. We wont know until we get our mitts on one. :D But there shouldn't be anything stopping you dropping in an nVidia, just uninstall the current drivers and software, shutdown unplug the PC or atleast turn the wall socket switch off and swap out the GPU and restart and install the drivers. You will of course likely void the warranty. Also keep in mind there are some fairly savvy computer nerds on this forum who would help you through the process if you want to do a PC build. <edit> Also you might want to consider going through the DRM procedure for your installed modules etc. Although ED do not explicitly include GPU's in the DRM point scheme.
  9. Alright another option, I hate the idea of subscription software aka a certain graphics software however I have mused on this and being a relative new comer ~3 years I can see an issue trying to sustain further development given the introduction of new technologies and developing DCS moving forward. Also to be considered constant updates to hardware and OS that need to be developed. Some options. Purely donations, might help but I do have modules that I only purchased just to add some sort of income stream. Perhaps make open beta a fee based service and some form of early access discounts for that fee say annual $25 ~ $50. Maybe it's not open beta just some form of "patron early feature service" Whatever the model it needs to be reasonable for the user i.e. low cost and beneficial to the developer so they can continue development. If you op out of the scheme you go back to stable and pay full price for the modules when "released" and maybe have to shell out for an upgrade from time to time. So yes I think for the long term future DCS will need to increase it revenue stream.
  10. Yes in oculus home->settings->graphics, Im not sure what effect it has under steam. The biggest problem is MSAA works harder as you ramp up detail or pseudo detail aka from increasing PD, it really ramps GPU usage for a while I did run PD at 1.1 and msaa @ 4 for me that gave slightly better image for a little less GPU usage and was more consistent performance wise across different maps. As for 30FPS being smooth it seems that might be a function of 2.5.4 because yes even at lower frame rates it now seems smother it used to be anything under 45FPS was kinda like a stop frame animation a while back.
  11. It has been mentioned in change the log, what it is is the process that goes on when you start DCS it's just been left in debug mode (verbose) so it displays in a dos box. you can close it when it's done loading.
  12. With careful tweaking you could also get 90FPS in Nevada. :music_whistling: The image refresh rate is 22.22' ms @ 45 FPS and 11.11' ms @ 90 FPS. 90FPS this makes looking around smoother and helps with immersion. With changes to the rendering within DCS invoke higher processing overhead and means that even high end CPU/GPU can not always complete rendering frames even at the fall back rate of 45FPS depending on scene complexity and some other factors. Sure I think we have all become accustomed to at least a smooth 45FPS presentation in game with VR and yes the image quality is IMO much better now although colour rendition may be a tad off, look at the strange metallic green of those ground radars in Caucasus. :smilewink: To that end DCS World needs some optimisation however I also think that the maps may need some work and to my mind layer management simple shadows appear on some buildings not others it depends what direction you approach sometimes even on terrain the shadows consist of different layers/masks etc, it's just not consistent. The important aspect here is that DCS World is constantly evolving as new features and modules are added and keeping older features and modules updated and at the same time introducing new technologies is a mammoth task. Also this continuous process involves 3rd party developers. Keep in mind DCS World is free! Contrast that to say XYZ Software and every time they fixed their code and added features we pay for it in the way of upgrades. This is one of the reasons I have bought aircraft that really I will only toy with and I have never had to pay for and upgrade to any of my aircraft in nearly 3 years. We have come to expect a lot for no real cost and I wonder how sustainable that is longterm. Just my musings. YMMV
  13. Yes VR improvements are coming, you can, well I can get 90FPS occasionally now out side of built up areas in NTTR, DCS is looking good.
  14. Well just an issue I experienced with Rift VR with the first "2.5.4" update seems resolved now so far. Cheers.
  15. +1.
  16. Look you need to consider the DCS World environment you can either use stable version or Steam managed version or open beta or the experimental open alpha version. It's kinda like backing a startup but not as expensive as others the DCS World environment is effectively itself not a released version. But it mostly works.
  17. I know right but with DCS you learn patience, sure we all belly ache from time to time and sure it can be frustrating when things break or just don't work but for the money DCS World has got to be the best Flight Sim deal out there. :) YMMV
  18. Just a heads up for those not running steam VR you can re-gain a few % by turning off the Anti-Aliasing and High Quality Panel Rendering in Rift Settings Graphics. It just might help a bit.
  19. Are these user mods? Perhaps disable them and check 2.5.4 had problems with some user mods. This is what happens just after where your DCS log ended.
  20. Just a heads up today's update fixed the huge aliasing issue and some performance has returned, now about improving VR in game performance and map performance.
  21. Does the OB get to write a log file?
  22. Thank you, the CE2 is an absolute fun aircraft to fly I even managed to land it right way up, I just need to realize you can't transition to a hover in it most embarrassing.:D:D:D
  23. Oh okay I see well you'll have to make some pedals :P I don't know your controller but when I first jumped in I had to clear all the multiple assignments that DCS does on a new module. maybe check that those buttons are not assigned to something else.
  24. Well after today's DCS 2.5.4.26368 update and image quality now appears like it used to be, except I now have a 2080Ti so can't say exactly the same but looking good. BTW this reference in the change log (I really don't know if it was the problem or not) So out of curiosity what happens when the pixel value goes negative do the "pixels" go from emitting light to absorbing light from the environment. :P :D
  25. check your controller mappings, DCS can sometimes put multiple controllers to the same axis which means they wont work correctly. Generally with a new model setup it's a good idea to check all the assignments.
