  1. Nice one. Is this a more recent change? I tried to do something like you describe when I first got the Hornet, but zooming in to the carrier just showed the symbol rather than an aerial view. Anyway, I'm going to have a go in the morning, much obliged for the advice guys thanks
  2. I've just been watching the trailer for the helicopter pack sale, and these shots stood out to me. Can anyone give me some advice on how I could get the aircraft carrier to look so full and busy? Thanks chaps.
  3. Thanks for the nudge in the right direction Art, after a bit more faffing with registry entries I think I am back up and running now. Editing the registry to get a computer game working, mmm. Anyway I'm going to drive the Ford Escort down to Blockbuster and get a vhs movie tonight. That new one with Tom Cruise about the jet planes looks good Thanks again for the advice
  4. I wonder if someone might point me in the right direction please. I have just upgraded my cpu (no other changes to my system) and I am getting the 'significant changes have been made' error when I launch DCS. I have followed the instructions to activate my modules in these dialogue boxes, and the game eventually launches. In module manager, all my modules show up, but when I try to run a quick mission to test, I get sent to the map view, with no way of flying the chosen aircraft. The T-51 works ok, so I am guessing it is something to do with activation, but the error messages are saying that activation has been successful, and when I click on the 'installed' tab in module manage, the buttons show up green as if they are correct. I have only found out about the notion of deactivating modules after I have run into problems, I wasn't aware of that so I didn't do anything to DCS before doing the cpu swap. Just a bit of advice as to how to get up and running again would be appreciated, thanks in advance. edit: I've been through the steps in the technical support section, short of manually editing the registry. I thought I would post here first before doing a step like that. edit edit: It's the older modules causing the problem, the Spitfire, Harrier, F-18 are all ok.
  5. Logic would dictate that the RTX 2080, priced a bit higher than the GTX1080Ti currently would beat it on existing games performance. If they released something that cost more but performed worse, they wouldn't sell many. Also the USB-C VR connector might hint at new VR headsets round the corner, so that's probably worth having. 2D gaming doesn't really need any more grunt from the GPU, but I think if your main interest is simulations in VR then you would certainly benefit.
  6. One of the biggest advantages of the Rift for me is in flying the helicopters. The extra sense of space and balance that you get really elevates the experience in VR. Do your homework so your expectations are realistic (resolution and framerate will be the biggest casualties) and I doubt you will be disappointed.
  7. If I owned a real Yak52 I would definitely have this livery on it, great idea.
  8. It's a feature I can live without.
  9. Are there any military style skins for the Yak, or are they all brightly coloured, civilian style paint schemes?
  10. We totally need a Chinook in DCS
  11. Well I tried turning it off and on again, and we seem to be back in business. Thanks Gary for setting me on the right track, I thought all my joystick bindings had disappeared, and I wasn't looking forward to setting up 15 modules from scratch. You'd think that if the updater required a restart, it would say so, but anyway, all sorted now I think. Haven't tested all modules, but I'm sure it'll be fine.
  12. Ah thanks Gary, I found that folder and the input folder contains all my bindings each in a folder per module, but there is also a file in there called 'failed.ofsh', which seems to have been created at the time I tried to play this morning when I had no joystick bindings. Any ideas? (The forum tools don't seem to allow me to attach the ofsh file)
  13. Can I just check which folder contains the joystick bindings? The game just updated itself, and it looks like all the joystick bindings for all my modules have been wiped out. Now given that it's a fair few hours work to reset everything for all modules, I just want to check if I can find the files. Last time I looked I think there was a folder for each module and the bindings were in that, but it's a while since I had to go in there. I'm currently looking in program files/Eagle Dynamics/DCS World OpenBeta/Config/Input/Aircrafts but this is all there is Has anyone else experienced this at all? Thanks in advance for any advice guys.
  14. Which could indicate that the Huey also isn't perfect, doesn't necessarily prove that the Gazelle is correct. Surely someone's feedback based on real experience is worth listening to? We all stand to benefit if we can get to the bottom of what's going on with the flight model.
  15. Great read, always enjoy these detailed posts. Thanks for taking the time to write it up. Very interesting point you make about the weathering on the paintwork, I think the ED artists do an excellent job of the aircraft skins across the board, and it is good to see that they have captured the realistic look of a plane that spends a lot of time out at sea.
  16. For me, when I play a track file back in game, it seems that it hardly ever bears any resemblance to what I have done on the flight. It usually depicts my plane crashing or completely missing the runway on a landing or some such. Do you have any tricks to get more reliable replay tracks? Do you ever get the mismatch between what happened in the mission and what the track looks like?
  17. Enjoyed reading that Snoopy, thanks for sharing it
  18. Sound advice, thanks Art
  19. This is something that is puzzling me. I just did my first carrier landing in the Hornet and wanted to save the track, but when I played it back it had little resemblance to what I had done. The flight was about ten minutes long, and the track just had me crash the plane about half way through, never even made it back to the carrier. Does this feature just not work in DCS or is there something I should do to correct it?
  20. Very pleased to see these back up from Lex. I saw them posted here yesterday but was at work, so was looking forward to watching them in the evening, by which time they had disappeared :( So glad it was just an innocent mistake and nothing more serious, thanks to all concerned for bringing them to our attention.
  21. That seems the fairest way to do it, no one expects you guys to work for free.
  22. Yes it would be nice to have a living breathing airfield, I agree.
  23. There was a note in the weekend news a couple of weeks ago about upcoming improvements to Normandy: Coming improvements include: More detailed objects and realistic airfield textures. The textures now reflect the more dusty, lighter, sandy surfaces Removal of permanent structures from ALG airfields Concrete surfaces for the airfields of Evreux, Carpiquet, and Tangmere Shallow water zones along the coastal areas New stone bridges More structures like farm houses outside the detailed areas of the map Added more objects like windmills Improved performance Not sure if they are in yet, but concrete runway at Tangmere looks like it's coming.
  24. I'd also double check that you don't have any other input devices assigned to any of the axes that might be interfering with your own inputs. I have a few other things plugged in to my PC, racing wheel, pedals etc, and I always have to clear the default assignments for them before I can fly a new module otherwise it will fly all over the shop.
