  1. Isnt it? :) Ive been spending a few hours every evening since the final release into OB, with just flying around the map, low, high, fast, slow, intercepting various AI, shooting them down, flying in formation with them, be it high or low, or just plain ignoring them and doing my own thing, what ever it was at that particular moment in time. From all perspectives the map is just fantastic, and especially Iran has some really amazing terrain features, that is well worth exploring from any altitude. My favorite thing has been flying low, like really low in the F-5 and just caressing the terrain features, while listening to endless streams of 80's synth. Be it ridges, valleys, flat plains or recessed dried out riverbeds (nice touch btw), and ripping the laundry off the strings in the various villages. Almost reaching a state of therapeutic trance. Really well done, ED map team. Very much looking forward to future maps of yours .
  2. Its a game feature / function to assist, in other words, an aid. Not a cheat. Seriously, the word cheat is being misused like mad around these parts.
  3. Hi Aplen. How is your endeavor into Persian Gulf missions going? I think that place, Iran especially, is perfect for your Cold War missions and gameplay. Hiding, searching, hunting, fighting between all the ridges, crossing the big flat plains to get to which ever etc. And really good performance out there in the nothing areas too, which there is lots of.
  4. Big difference between rendering a 3D scene with volumetric? clouds and a video. As long as the video streams of the disc, and only does that in that main menu, and stops when loading into a mission/server, and gets the hell out of the memory, then I think that would be a very cool idea  Have several, make a playlist, have it shuffle, which ever. I would like that too.
  5. Oh wow, so the thread got moved on my experience with Tacview taking some performance? Yea I was surprised too. Dont know if just here or its a general thing. But with Tacview running, I couldnt run unit/object heavy missions, like the 476th NTTR Target range. It contains vast amounts of units, objects etc, and my fps always tanked on there, so was impossible for me to run/enjoy it. Then I read somewhere about someone saying that Tacview takes some performance, and that the more units, the more costly with Tacview. So I switched it off and ran the 476 Target Range, and now I could use it just fine. Also, did some tests a while back, trying to get the bottom of performance loss with units. I would place 500 late activated units (BTR-80) way north on Caucasus map, while I sat facing in the opposite way on Senaki ramp, and note down the fps. Then every 15 seconds or so, Id activate 100 units, and note the fps, and so on and so forth. For every 100 units, I basicaly lost 7-8 fps (starting at 90). Didnt matter if the units were set to Uncontrollable or static BTR-80's, or just sitting there. Thought this was a DCS problem. Then after reading the above with Tacview, I tried this again with Tacview disabled, and activating the units had no impact on fps. These were AI units, but not moving. Well if the units are late activated, then they arent doing their thing yet. So as long as you dont have many units active at the same time, you should be ok I guess. But its a very dynamic environment so its hard to say, its due to this or that. 300 moving units will hit hard for example. And also, is this performance loss happening to all clients, some clients, and are their performance ok on other servers etc.
  6. I couldnt say honestly, is entirely up to you, if you want one or the other. Each has their advantages and disadvantages. I used a single 1080p 40" TV with TrackIR for quite a while. That then grew to 3x 40" TV with TIR. Advantage of the triple setup was that it was very immersive, which is my target. As immersive as I can get it. The triple setup was performance costly though, and I had to run similar to VR low settings to stay above 60 fps, which for me was the TIR tracking smoothness threshold. But also for the flying down low in the mud, 30 fps or so doesnt cut it down there, or during ACM for that matter. Below 60 fps the tracking just isnt smooth, nor is the flying when you have something to measure it to. When I switched to VR some 3 years ago now, I got rid of the triple setup, and just kept one TV. VR is by far the most immersive, but its even more performance sensitive, and any kind of visual ID is almost impossible, until you are basically humping their wing. Ive never seen DCS in 4K, but judging from those that have here on the forum, well its awesome too, but its biggest disadvantage seems to be spotting. But thats me.
  7. Oh for sure. But even with 3x 1080p rendered separately, dont underestimate the power required. You can already now get a small taste, and that is to set display resolution in the DCS options to 1024 every frame, and then fly with the mirrors on, in the F-14, down low in Dubai -just for worst case scenario, and see what it does to your performance. Now imagine that performance hit once more, and even more cause you are rendering 1920x1024x3 and not 1920x1024+1024x1024x2 (with the 1024x1024 and lower view distances and shit, cause mirror uses different lod distances and stuff). Just to complicate an answer :).
  8. Well, that will come at a performance cost though. 3x 4k is a lot of pixels and memory, plus 3x 4k viewports rendered separately - unless you want a lot of visual distortion.
  9. I found that running Tacview while in a mission took away a lot of fps. In your case with 4-500 units, Id have maybe 50-60% performance compared to a clean mission. Disabling Tacview gave back a lot of fps. So if you run Tacview, try with it disabled and see if that helps.
  10. There is: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=29207
  11. While escorting a couple of F-5's over a very scenic Iran coastline, I noticed the sandstorm was clipping trough the canopy edge band - see just below the F-5. Probably an engine alpha transparency limitation, but figured Id post just in case.
  12. Or since rumor has it, that a Easter Sale is coming, you might be able to get a 2 for 1 deal (since they might 50% off), and grab a F-5E and a Mirage 2000 for example.
  13. Ace Combat 5 DLC skin apparently. Some contest winner. Will take some skill to paint that one, but with the high resolution textures in DCS, it could look seriously cool.
  14. Isnt that a Super Hornet thing?
  15. Any news on them good looking RDAF Mirages?
  16. What is this, lynch mob April? F'ing disgusting.
  17. So you are looking down the Su27 parked in there, but dont see the menu itself?
  18. Hit '5' on numpad to recenter. And when you can see the menu again, go into controls, UI Layer, and map Headset, or HMD or VR recenter (cant remember what its called exactly).
  19. Well, I guess its just one of those things. Continued flying about tonight, and once more, deleted the fxo and metashaders folder due to those heavy jolts. Still no luck though, I would get it again. On all attempts after having deleted the metashaders, I had started with flying on Caucasus, but then once again, I deleted the metashaders again, and started out on Persian Gulf instead, and voila, smooth as before the update. Go figure.
  20. LOL. I think someone has had enough of something :).
  21. Just rubbing it in...
  22. Tried various modules and maps, and happens in all combo's. Wasnt like this before this Wednesdays update.
  23. Mnah, after some further flying tonight, I'll put that down as placebo.
  24. Probably not a VR specific problem, but its what Im using and hence where I notice it. Its an old phenomenon that we've had in the past that is back now, and that is when looking around / tracking, and game loading stuff in/out of memory, it does so with a hard cpu hit (I guess), making the tracking in that moment very snappy / jolty. Is very annoying in VR, where fluent tracking is key. And I have deleted my metashaders.
