After a lost of reasearch (I googled "santas sleigh specs", (I may have mispelled "Santa!) and hit the first item on the list without looking fully at what it was) this was revealed to me! https://1013theriver.ca/2014/12/23/santas-sleigh-technical-data/ REMEMBER!! Just cos its on Google doesnt make it not classified....as we are always being told.....

I still want a pony.
-
Scale GUI doesnt appear to have an effect on the ME sadly. I wonder if there is some Lua setting for it?
-
Bugger that - I want the shifting sands - NOW. ..and a pony (i want a pony more I think)
-
Pretty sure there isnt a single post so far that says that.
-
Im approaching old (suspicion of children, puzzlement at new music , cant uderstand the draw of being a social influencer, pausing to look at the headlines on the Daily Mail etc) and concur. The ME text is not only too small for me (Beacons are especially troublesome) but town names are also difficult to read due to their contrast with the map. Zooming makes it worse.

Yes what you are seeing is consistent with the state of the game. The "can you run it" databases are worefully optimistic as are the devs own min and recommend specs but this is fairly standard across games. Should really be "can you start it" Some suggstions to try - your mileage and tastes may vary! Sorry Im bound to wholly useless google translete and my much smarter French speaking son is at school - Textures - is "eleve" high? If so, reducing the textures to medium will gain you a few fps. The difference between high and medium in newer cockpits isnt so bad. I only really notice it on the older stuff like the Mi8 and Huey but just select high in those cases as the impact in performace is balance out by the lower resolution of the grpahics used back then. Shadows - assuming Eleve is "high" - again reducing them to medium isnt too awful and in some cases, I think actually better (tree shadow flicker etc in cetain conditions and on the Normandy map). The some view distances got tweaked in the OB 2.7.7. See how you get on with High instead of Ultra. Reducing the grass/clutter (Visbilete Herbe) to 900-1000 will get you a few extra fps on the ground without too much impact. At this time, the 3 foot high grass everywhere is a good reason for turning it off! Forest visibilty can be slightly reduced without too much of a graphical hit - say down to 85%. Global cockpit illumination will cost you 3.-5 fps, try if off to see if you can live without it (some modules cope better than others). The Factor sliders can have a big impact in the later maps like the Channel and to a lesser degree Syria but have a more on/off effect in older maps. Reducing the scenery factor even down to as much as 0.6 in the channel has very little noticable graphical impact that I can see and will help keep your frames up (as much as perhaps 10 or 12 extra fps) if you are lowish flying over built up areas. Civilian Traffic can have a hit - personally I turn it off as I cant stand the scale speed and cornering on rails without braking animations. Sorry I do not understand what "moyen" means. Standard Clouds dont look too bad but the imapct on fps between settings doesnt appear to be too severe in any case. Ansiotropic level should, by all accounts, have a very small impact on fps but I have expereinced some slight reduction in performance when flying low over heavily forested areas. For the hit however I would see if you can run it higher and save elsewhere X8 or X16 should be easily possibly and greatly improves things like the runway makings when on the ground. If you had a performance hit with the 2.7.7.7 OB, there may be some hope on the horizon that you will regain some fps in the next patch but this is currently based on the expereince of 1 closed beta tester and not official. If you can run the game at native 1440P thats what i would aim for. I play at 1080P and its ok but not wonderful. Dependent on what maps you fly and what you fly , a few small edits to the terrains/surface folder can help. Removing or renaming the "shrub" ref file will get rid of a lot of small imtems that sit inder the canopy of the forests. It does thin out the forest loos a little but since each of those items have a draw and a shadow, helps stop the fps getting knocked down. This is really a low level gameplay thing however so if you are a jet head and up at 20000ft id doubt youd see much benefit.

Engine exhaust flames. Are they realistic?
Boosterdog replied to Terry Dactil's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
If I were arranging a night time spectacular of exhaust flames for avo nuts and wasnt too worried about the effects of the engine loosing power of having its sparky bits messed up from a prolonged run, Id run it over lean to produce the biggest blue flames that I could because that is what people want, and have likely paid, to see. Which is what I think is happening in the spit video. There a lot of restored mossie in-cockpit footage showing the merlin is not a flame spitting monster albeit this is daytime stock. In low light I beleive there would be some slight to moderate indication of gas and, dependent upon the stack length and design some heat glow on the stacks. The shrouds and covers fitted to many night operating merlin equipped aircraft like the Lancaster, Hurricane NFs and mossies are testamony to that. Geoffrey Wellum talks about loosing night vision because of the glow and gas from the stacks of his aircraft in "first LIght" and theres reference in pilot notes to the colour and type of flame from the exhust as an indication of correctly setting the mixture according to altitude. And theres lots of reference to night fighter pilots homing in on the exhausts of bombers but I take some of that with a pinch of salt given "Cats Eyes" Cunningham apparently ate a lot of carrots!. For me its very overdone at present but still a WIP that doesnt especially worry me. At night, on an unshrouded stack I would expect to see a mild effect. In the day, nothing. -
Theyre gonna need a machette first. Hopefully if its a global thing it can be tamed.

That, my frend is a very good tip! Even in the currently cronky 2.7.8 I can, at least, pleasure fly now. In other maps ive found those sliders to be somewhat on/off but they seem made for the Channel. Thank you! Again!

hmm - looks ok in Devrim's Black cockpit. Time to close in that weather in and trust in pink! @Mordant thanks for the push buddy!

For tenner or thereabouts you may have pursuaded me!

Sorely tempted to add this to the Hip but the units seems to blend rather badly into the cockpits and looks "stuck on". Minor point given all the fuctionality.

Boosterdog replied to Boosterdog's topic in Mission Editor Bugs

Performance (FPS) loss from 2.7.6 to 2.7.7

Performance (FPS) loss from 2.7.6 to 2.7.7
Boosterdog replied to Limaro's topic in Game Performance Bugs
wrong colour of wire under the radio operators seat in the mossie. -
I can only suggest having a look to see if your have any RAM headroom. I believe 32GB min is recommended for MP. I know Syria doesnt like letting go of RAM but Im not sure about the other maps. Even the caususes runs me over 16GB in my 2D settings with 2.7.8. Run a repair? Fix the page file to 16Gb if you can?
-
Some mission cause long periods of black screen and Syria can do the same at times but desktop appears after perhaps 30 seconds. Is it every mission, some maps? How much RAM do you have?

Performance (FPS) loss from 2.7.6 to 2.7.7
Boosterdog replied to Limaro's topic in Game Performance Bugs
thank you very much for keeping this in mind and offering us some hope. -
Ill give it a go but sitting at Hawkinge in an empty mission at 55 fps doesnt fill me with hope

Though Id come back to this with another half assed solution. This is gonna work better on some ships than others. So - with the seawise giant (for instance) you have the scope to place a unit from which you can transmit - The unit needs to be amphibious (in my example a BTR80) otherwise it cant be placed. EDIT - if you start the ship heading directly north the placment can be made one to one. Next - how you place the unit is....odd - basically if you oritentate it NORTH it will point to the front of the boat in line with the hull regardess of the direction of the boat. Next, where you put it is not where it will end up. In my limited experients so far on a boat travelling NE, it will end up in a location to the ground unit's left. So if you put it on the left of the boat it will levitate about 25 yds off the side of the boat. Sometimes it will do the opposite if placed in the centre of the boat. This is a bit of a hack - the unit does not sit on the deck of the boat but rather sinks in/floats about so its all trial and error. There appears to be no collision model. This can work out well as you can hide the thing. The transmissions NDB type all seem to work as intended which is the point behind all this. Also works for rigs.

DCS OB - Official Package Contents? (unwanted files)
Boosterdog replied to Dunx's topic in Steam Support
Ah ok. Ive always just blindly updated and repaired (non steam) Ive never seen anything but user and mod files moved to back ups. Id always assumed an update may add or modify something. Never considered it would take something away. -
DCS OB - Official Package Contents? (unwanted files)

No but if ED put up a new patch doesnt that process do it? In the same way a patch from the DCS server for a non steam user may? -

Doesnt ED update their package on Steam to reflect this?
