Spot on! Range Targets! Thank you mate. Looks fanstastic!

Thanks again. It appears somthing is missing - trouble is I dont know what. It appears DCS will happily load a static template with the missing items not included but wont allow a mission to be saved or the template to be resaved with out them. helpfully it doesnt tell me what items are missing! This is what I have, all have been downloaded in the past week: Deck Equipment 1.4a Grumman EA6B Prowler Military Aircraft Mod VPC airfield eqiupment 0.9.6 Highwayman Eds Navy Equipment Warning Signs Ratos and Cowboys HH60 and SH60 mods Any ideas? Could it be a cargo item~? Sorry to be a PITA - if its gonna be a problem please dont put yourself out. I have already a great start with the template from what I can see in the mission editor and can take a screen print for reference.

Thank you so much @fagulha. I really appreciate this.

That make I laaaarf.

The SA map represents a varied terrain in a new (non sandy) location within a timeframe that those with some imagination can use a number of modules against one another. For those that cant there are other maps. In addition there is some hope that someday, more relevent AI or full modules may come along for that 1982 thing. Any map made by a different dev to ED and Ugra should be welcomed as it potentially drives the art along. Is it niche? I dunno, possibly but probably no more that the Marianas or Normandy or the NTTR. Depends on your values. Does it make more sense than Hawaii? - almost certainly. Does it make more sense than a complete WW2 Pacific set. Again, almost certainly given there is amost nothing else available for that era and the DCS timescales involved in making stuff. That and the apparent lack of data on Japanese stuff oft talked about in the other WW2 flight flight sim.

My world is shattered.

Says the man who wants Hawaii

Thats not BIGNEWY - its an imposter. BIGNEWY is a cat. In a helmit.

Thank you Fagulha! So I have all the maps and The Navy Desk equipment 1.4a, Highwayman Ed's Navy Mod, the 0.9.6 VPC airfield equipment mods which I use on the carriers. Dont worry about FPS, I bank a lot of things for the future. Scripts based on RedKites I use along with some Moose based stuff like the SAR helo. Hope that helps. And thanks again!

So I went ahead and tried @Wizxrd's App. It doesnt come with a benchmark trk yet so I created my own one for each of the Caucaus, Syria and Channel Maps. Harrier at 200ft over mixed terrain and built up areas measured with Fraps. Does it work? Yes. The balanced setting got me to within a whisker of my own settings that Ive come to over the past 5 years of DCS and 20 years of simming. Moreover, it put me there with what I would consider to be the right amount of headroom (at least in 2.5.6OB - 2.7.8 is not performing great but hopefully there may be a fix for the loss coming). This said I play at 1080P on a 60 Hz monitor and the app doesnt currently take into account resolution or refresh rate. So with my set up, It appears Im lucky that it matches what it apeears to be set up for. Did it exacly match my own settings? No. But these are personal preferences based on my playing perferences for ground pounding and Helos. If I were a 2500M plus jet jockey they ould have been. Certainl no big "huhs??" were apparent. Whatever way I wanted to use the game, If I were new to DCS Id be in pretty much a prefect position to enjoy it from the get go without it turning into a stuttering blocky mess. (on a 1080P 60hz monitor). Is it perfect? - Yes and No - the app does as well as DCS allows it to and hits a combination of settings that are more refined than the DCS default presets do. HOWEVER - DCS maps are inconsistent. I dont mean one runs faster than another - the Wizard took care of that and gave me settings I could run even in the Channel and Syria. What I mean is the build of the maps vary way too much. For instance, the LOD sliders work well in the Channel with a good amount of scope to fine tune but less so on the Causcauses. In Syria its on or off, very very little scope. Trees Visibility in the Channel Map is much more subtle than in the Caucauses where reducing forest visibilty is really too noticable and so on. LODS in general are all over the place. This is something Wizxard may perhaps take into consideration should he develop it further but its primarliy an ED thing. Is it Worthy - Absolutley - I havent a clue how it works but I can only say that the more feedback Wizxard gets, the better the app may get. At this time if took my rig and hooked it up to a 4K or 1440P screen I may be disappointed but Id also be an idiot to do so with my rig anyhow. Thats pretty easy to factor out with some simple goal keepers and perhaps some more development (Recommend resolutions for instance GTX1080 for 1080P, 2080ti for 1440P or whatever). Anyhow - hit him up and give it a whirl (if you are serious about providing the feedback he is asking for).

OK - so i was too shy to ask but.........I would be very greatful

A few weeks back I noticed that the TV tower object rendered both the flat and default shadows. This appeared to be a "edge" scenario invloving 1 object. Today, whilst setting up some tests for something else, I have again found flat shadows being rendered in the default terrain shadows setting. This time the shadows are cast by the trees within the map not a user placed object. Again this is an "edge" case on the face of it, the terrrain on which the trees are located needs to fall away steeply on the oppposite side to the direction of sunlight. However my assumption is that regardless of this factor, the calculation must still be being made which may affect performance. Regardless of performance, if you enjoy valley flights in the Caucuses, its a nasty immersion breaking effect that thumbs its nose at the performance hit you are taking from running in default in the first instance. FXO and Meta2 cleared. Files attatched including the Miz should anyone wish to play about with the time of day to maximise the effect. @Flappie sorry my friend but as the most interactive and visiable ED tester in the forum could I trouble you to take a look? Civilian Objects And Vehicles
Boosterdog replied to Eight Ball's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Thank you @Eight Ball The ships look superb during the day and absolutely beautiful at night. And the island is my idea of paradise. No people and zero gardening - heaven! -
Is a damn good suggestion!

I do agree BTW - A focussed area and plane set would be great. JUst dont think its practical. When i found myself thinking about it i ended up with a HUGE map of northern Europe, 3 British aircraft, 2 French ones, 4 additional russian aircraft several F4s an F111 and a serious Naval contingent - so at least 13 wishlist items in one without any maps in the middle east. I think issue with era specific stuff and DCS is timescales - left to its own devices the above is at least 10 years work for ED. If you co-opt 3rd parties it would be like herding cats given the differences in approach, other committments, staffing and ability. There would also be contractual arrangments to deliver within timescales I would guess given the interdependency required that I doubt any would be foolish enough to enter into. Additionally DCS is like a supertanker. Takes ages to start, stop and change direction so its not as if you can simply put aside whats in the (long) pipeline and hope to survive on your reserves until the new stuff finally comes to fruition. The impression I get is that its somewhat of a hand to mouth existence as it is and a wrong move could be the last. ED and DCS simply cant produce a map and 10 aircraft like another sim can every 3 years. What your left with then is a period of nothing to sell for say 2 years, then a map and a couple of aircraft (which will always be the wrong ones for at least half of the comminuty) for a year or two then a drip feed of airframes and perhaps one or two new maps for the remainder, most of which will be in various states of early access, to a customer base who may not even be interesed in that Era (ever or any longer). Obviously if the era were to be 74-79 all of the above is moot, it would be roaring success, everyone would love the devs and pay them on a monthly basis just for being devs with no expectation and everyone would be very rich.........honest.

Thank you for sharing Wizard. I would be interesed to try it to see how it compared to my own trial and error settings if it helps you also. Seems a more sensible thing to do than sniping about something one hasnt even tried. Ill PM you.

The tree I put a reference to is on Rota Island. There is no tree in the location IRL on Tinian. Maps are as accraute as time and scale allow I guess. None are ever perfect. No-one would be talking about this tree if it were another palm tree but I agree that when such items are added, and they are "stand outs", they should be added as a landmark feature to represent a real world items and not randonly placed by an algorithim.
-
Cor....you really like that tree . Im gonna watch out for you next time I overfly the area to see if youve tried yourself to it to prevent its destruction! Given its "Stand out" qualities and the fact that one isnt there IRL there is an argument for its removal at least from that spot but such trees are around (Rota for example) even if their modelled representations are a little dodgy.
-
Bragging about victories aside, it would be a great tool for those kind enough to share tutorial videos also I guess.
-
Not just the buildings but the trees too - some almost "time lapse" into maturity witihn 100M of the helo.
-
Its a Banyan Tree. One of several on the island in the map. Can grow that big but are usually a bit smaller. Not sure it belongs on the island and not sure it would be old enough to be that big if it did given, y'know WW2 and all that. There is certainly at least one big one on Rota IRL. https://www.123rf.com/photo_77826480_giant-fig-tree-rota-a-giant-fig-tree-beside-the-road-in-the-southern-part-of-rota-northern-mariana-i.html If it offends it can be removed by renaming (or removing it) from the surface detail folder in the terrains/marianas folder. Whilst some locations may be dubious, its not a fiction in itself although its not an especially good model either given its prominence and size.

I hope you'll find it as absorbing as many of us have found it. If you cant add a damper to the pedals, loosen them up to ease the strain on your legs. Also look up the You Tube videos from Casmo TV about rotor theory and trasiitioning and the ones from AVTerminus on handing the Hip. Both will save you a lot of "WTF" moments and are full of great tips to really help you appreicate the module. Devrim's Black Cockpit mod looks great whilst Grajo's Rough Met mod brings the externals to life. You'll need to have your Textures on high with hip as its an old old cockpit but the performace hit isnt as big as on the more recent modules. Oh and in the "special" tab for the Mip , turn off "Controls Helper" - my personal experience is that it does the opposite to helping anything! See you somewhere on a mountain pass pulling off a single engine overweight landing in blinding snow!
-
I understand. Good luck and lets hope 2022 brings some good news engine wise!
-
Ah - thanks. Not VR so was just thinking aloud.
-
Are you running a liquid cooled K series CPU at stock? Wont overclocking that help a little? I dunno for VR , just asking.
