  1. Sorry I haven't been back for so long, I've had a few rather busy weeks, sadly. Still, thank you very much, I hadn't seen that at all, so I do stand corrected, especially about my believe that said statistics haven't even been touched on for so long.
  2. I would imagine so, too, but having access to that data and actually taking something useful from it are two separate problems. Who all do you count? Literally everyone? Accounts with a certain total number of hours? Accounts active within a specific previous timespan? I'd assume the results vary quite wildly depending on this simple question alone. The fact that the old '90% SP' stat has never been elaborated or updated, and historically was mostly thrown around at times when people quite loudly demanded multiplayer issues to be fixed, made it very convenient. Include all accounts that tried out DCS and never even played it beyond looking at the Su-25T for an hour - there you got thousands of people who are exclusively SP. Just a simple example. While I can't think of one off the top of my head, I am sure you can easily find the opposite, too. You are absolutely right that it is an interesting information to the marketing department of ED, but I have serious doubts that the insights that got shared about this are very accurate and even less current.
  3. I would argue their more recent ventures can be described with a lot of adjectives, but 'boring' is not one of them.
  4. ED's analytics in this matter are perfectly capable of producing at least as skewed results easily. Regardless of that, the usefulness of such a poll, no matter how it is conducted, is minute at best. I for one definitely am not going to follow obscure links for such silliness.
  5. Since when is 'reasonable matchup of playable modules or existing AI assets' any consideration in DCS?
  6. That might be taking it a bit too far. The F/A-18C, for example, does have an ADF (Automatic Direction Finder) that's for use with NDBs, but it's not really a primary system. It works through one of the radios and I'm not entirely sure if it works in DCS, mostly because - granted - you usually will have easier methods of navigation in all modern jets.
  7. FAQ: When does the DCS Lunar New Year sale start? This year the Lunar New Year sale will start on February 7th. Will everything be discounted 50% during the sale? Sadly no. Please check the online shop for the specifics, but some items are discounted somewhat less, especially if they already feature a discount (e.g. preorder). Discounts on 3rd party modules vary. I don't celebrate Lunar New Year. Can I still get a discount? Yes! While it might seem a little shifty, you can make use of the discount, completely independent of your personal cultural heritage. Must I buy a new module? Well, it is encouraged but by no means mandatory. Refer to your purchase history or your miles balance. You don't really have to. Chances are you shouldn't. But one more won't hurt, probably.
  8. Seen an ad for it and thought: «Hey, that looks interesting.» but then the ad closed with 'exclusively on Apple TV' so I forgot about it again. (Availability might depend on your region)
  9. I'd agree that going further north makes a lot more sense than that. And while I do like penguins... really, how much interaction is there with them in a flight sim? (Lets aim for herds of reindeer that run from low-flying helicopters instead)
  10. I wonder if it's me or if these newsletters do slowly get stranger.
  11. Should be no problem, there isn't a functional difference between the Steam and Standalone versions.
  12. A certain trouble with some of the bugs and issues that are long reported and at some point were labelled 'low priority' is that plenty of new things, that originate with higher priority, get shoveled in at a high enough rate to seemingly never get to these old problems. Lets not get into this whole 'this is complicated' topic, we all understand that some things are indeed very complicated, but that doesn't make us blind to the fact that some things are actually quite straightforward and just never get done because nobody ever has time to look into them.
  13. Next time try repair. Chances are you levitate up two feet and cease moving along with the ship.
  14. The claim that any given AI unit takes thousands of man-hours to implement leads to the conclusion that adding semi-animated crewmen to existing ones would probably take such a gargantuan effort that even a rough estimate of two weeks™ is impossible to make at this point.
  15. Certainly, you had just gotten me confused for a second wishing for a vehicle that is in fact in the game. I am all in favour of getting a new model for this, especially since it seems it has been virtually done for years already.
  16. Just give it two weeks or so...
  17. I mean, I see that this is an updated model, but generally that unit is in DCS, isn't it?
  18. The first question to ask in response to the OP is: what kind of operation do you have in mind? Generally speaking for effective A-G strikes in DCS you will need one of the more modern jets or helicopters, like an AH-64, a Ka-50 (somewhat limited), a Hornet, Viper or Warthog. If you are after A-A operations your options are more plentiful, I'd say. MiG-21 and later I'd say, all kinda work, with some WW2 birds and F-86s having limited options.
  19. I've so far been convinced that the ultra-fluffy seat cover is the main selling point of DCS: F-16C
  20. Someone's asking the tough questions here
  21. Yes, reviving this thread, mostly because I feel that more people deserve to read the OP. I've made an effort of my own for this year - not quite as elaborate but it's heartfelt: «Twas the flight before Christmas, when all through the hold Not a word was spoken by young or by old Tired of shots, of rockets, of war They all took a moment and knew there was more The rotor above made a steadily sound Through the back door: snow-glistened the ground Although not red, but all green and gray They flew over town, like Santa's own sleigh Soaring above a village and town They'd make it back home and set safely down Late was the night in deep winter and cold But all gathered happy, sang loudly and bold Soldiers and tankers and pilots and crew They all wished for one thing for all to come true: That there'd be one season of joy and of light In which there is peace on Earth for a night.»
  22. Please, we call them 'aerodynamically challenged'
  23. I guess I am not that much of a purist there, lest we could scrap quite a few of the (already not that plentiful) liveries we already have.
  24. F-15E - ED Forums (dcs.world) It's a third party addon by RAZBAM.
  25. Still even the second picture you included shows they make up for it with having quadruple ATGM launchers, so it seems to me that having ours stand in would be more than reasonable. Thanks for updating that for me. Still, not really a reason not to have the livery, I figure.
