  1. All advice I can offer you: - Universally just don't try to be a jerk to everyone; there are enough people who that. Dropping a cheeky bomb on your own airfield isn't as hilarious as some people think. - SRS is popular to talk to others, but not generally a requirement. Usually the server info you get when you click on it before joining is going to tell you if people are expected to be on that - There are a lot of different servers and they are run differently. If you give it a try and you find people are a bit hostile or you feel a little lost, just try a different one. A lot of servers are more focused on 'PvE', which means that other players aren't in the business of hunting you down at least. Some say 'Training Server' in their name, they are great places to just practice stuff and generally people aren't taken aback if you ask them questions. - Remember to have some fun! Stick around where you find people whose company you enjoy.
  2. I'd like a CH-46 or CH-47 for it having some unique factors being a tandem helicopter. Admittedly that also means a lot of work has to be done for its development and it is less likely we get it anytime soon. I know out of the two the 47 is probably the more popular choice, as it has higher lift capacities and is also more common around the world.

    Happy Holidays

(I tried to revive the old thread from last year, but I couldn't seem to find it) I just wanted to stop a minute and wish you all, the staff over at ED, the developers of third party content, and all the nice people in the community, very happy and peaceful holidays.
  4. Quick question: who has designed the logo?
  5. Eurofighter doesn't hold a candle to Cricri. But on serious notes: whatever happened to DCS: Tug - Tow several legends?
  6. You got a lot of good ones on your list! I'd like a bit more involvement with cargo on a whole, also in view of the big wish of a dynamic campaign.
  7. It does accelerate forward, but if you time it right and move sideways fast enough it'll work out. The force towards the center of the circle (or the target) gets offset by your momentum while turning. If you are too slow on the sideways motion you don't have the benefit of the tank being unable to fire at you (at least with the main armament) and you also will be struggling to keep a reasonable distance.
  8. Generally I try not to think about this. One could argue that I don't fly DCS as much as I used to these days, but it comes in 'waves'. Sometimes I fly a lot, sometimes I hardly do at all. At times I am happy that I mostly fly MP and thus my times don't get recorded.
  9. As fleet captain Ramius once said: "let 'em sing!" Probably Razbam having a little bit of fun in the mission. Personally I prefer to include any such in radio stations to be tuned to at some point in my missions.
  10. Oh, don't worry, I noted very warmly how you pointed out how it should be an option to be used when necessary, and I certainly support it. Apart from several other advantages, like being able to distinguish between various weapons employed by a single unit, it would also be tremendously helpful to anyone who has trouble seeing the circles now, be it because of 'VR res issues', the circles being outside the current view or just plain old low contrast.
  11. Just would like to remind people: the fact that there was a wishlist thread for the Corsair seven years ago does not mean that M3 has been working on it for seven years.
  12. I think a lot would actually improve if we could ditch the 'all or nothing' of it and record shorter tracks on demand. That would probably give us a second of stuttering because the track would need to write down all the initial positions and conditions, but a track of five minutes usually works okay and would be easier to handle. But then, maybe that isn't so easy either.
  13. I'm not sure if I would like that all the time for fear of seriously cluttering up my map, but I would certainly welcome to have a few more options for these kinds of things.
  14. After excitedly reviving a thread after seven years you will also be elated to learn that Magnitude3 has been working on this for a considerable amount of time.
  15. That would indeed be useful to have for more modules. It comes in handy for a lot of reasons, really, for example AAR training without ending up with short ranges, or managing take-off weight for certain situations.
  16. Uhm, there is good old-fashioned in-game chat as a start? If you keep frequenting the same servers at similar times you will be bumping into the same people sooner or later.
  17. Seeing how your last computer was one fiery hot machine I hope it doesn't...
  18. Well, that is actually one half of the truth. The other half is that the Soviets had this fire-retardant they wanted to put in the cockpits for obvious reasons and it just kinda ended up being that kinda colour. You will find that the actual shades of the turquoise colour differs quite a lot between airframes from the rich paint seen in this video to the much paler shade we got in the DCS MiG-21 to virtually grey with just a hint of green. That often has to do with supply of the material and which factory made it; if it was entirely about wanting a specific colour there would probably have been stricter guidelines about it, seeing how 'regular colour' wasn't scarce and - being how its only purpose would have been to be a specific colour - there would have been more complaints about not matching it.
  19. On the plus side: hugely realistic damage model there
  20. Your mileage depends slightly (read: quite a lot) on the exact type of ship you want to destroy. The Tarantul class corvettes are fragile enough to be done with a single Harpoon, a heavy-warhead Maverick or a 1000lbs bomb hitting it well.
  21. It works with mark points to quick-slew your seekers, but you still need to get positive lock between your shots.
  22. I wasn't ware of the additional wildlife on the South Atlantic. But... are they 'real'? I mean, are they just animated props that are technically terrain or do they have any sort of agency? Are they moving around on their own, giving the theoretical option of a collision?
  23. Generally speaking, beyond the birdstrike probability slider, the only wildlife in DCS is cows places as part of the mission. Hardly requires much additional measures of control.
  24. Skins have just been Hiob's example, too. It's just a little quality-of-life thing. Of course one could filter by all the other categories one after the other, but it could be more convenient. Plus, Hiob said, it's hardly an exotic thing to do. Furthermore, I doubt the 'main DCS team' would divert much for it, as this is entirely website stuff.
