Ahh, ED has already announced back around January that they have already been working on the integration of Vulkan support into DCS. So end of discussion. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/newsletters/newsletter10012020-nre707qr8er2uuith0j6he84jyjdmz1z.html

You may not understand it but there are a lot of people out there that are not interested in combat flight operations. I see it all the time in comments here and on youtube. They are more interested in support roles like flying AWACS missions in an E2 Hawkeye. Here is one of those comments to show you who these people are: "Would love to see an E-3 Hawkeye join us in DCS. Being a Commercial pilot, that would make my day. All this Hornet stuff is far too stressful. LOL"

I am actually pleased to know that any other full fidelity module is better than the F-15C now. I had heard that the F-15's radar was not operating to its full potential of what it could be if it was full fidelity. So it makes total scene. This also further shows why FC3 level modules would be at a disadvantage anyways making them an unbalanced alternative as REDFOR aircraft.

While I do think a Kasmir map would be great I don't think it would be made anytime soon, because there are other maps that are higher on the most requested list that I always see being requested. Heck this is the first time I have even seen a map request for Kasmir. But there is a possibility that it could be made sooner if there is a thrid party or a group of programmers that would like to become a developer to take it on as a passion project.

It's not that they have been reluctant, but they are simply unable to do so with eastern block aircraft because of licensing restrictions. The only way they could possibly get them upgraded is if they were to hand them off to a 3rd party to do so. However ED should be able to upgrade the other western FC3 aircraft with out restrictions.

Part of this information was talked about by Wags from ED in this podcast interview. I highly suggest listing to it to be up to date. The interview goes into the discussion of Eastern Bloc Aircraft @11:44. https://alert5podcast.podbean.com/e/scramble-04-matt-wags-wagner/

I haven't been playing online in a while mostly because I spend the little time I have training and staying current on with carrier ops. But it was a joy to hear that the F-14 is now the king of the virtual skies mostly because that title used to belong to the F-15C. I detested the F-15C then because I considered it an unfair and unbalanced advantage because it was a low fidelity aircraft that any Joe could become an ACE in with little training and work load to operate. So like others have stated the Mig-31 is a pure interceptor that is not an ideal match for the F-14. Plus like I have mentioned before, I consider Low fidelity vs High fidelity an unbalance in the first place. The best REDFOR options that are actually on the way is the Iranian F-14A and the Mig-23. Which by the way the Mig-23 would be a far better adversary with it being far more agile than the Mig-31. Plus it would fit the adversary role perfectly for the new Syria map.

I said what I said because ED had made an announcement a while ago that they were no longer planning on making anymore low fidelity modules for DCS because their focus was going to be on MAC (Modern Air Combat) a new game they are working on made up entirely of low fidelity aircraft. https://www.gamingnexus.com/News/42247/Eagle-Dynamics-announces-Modern-Air-Combat2c-confuses-DCS-owners/ I am basically just informing on the facts that I remember reading. You are free to wish all you want but that still wont change ED's plans.

I totally understand there needing to be a balance of an opposing force. But I hardly think low fidelity models would make for a fair and well balanced contenders. Several years ago the F15C was the go to airplane because it was the easiest aircraft to score kills in just because it was easy to operate. I doubt that would had been the case if the F-15C would had been a full fidelity module So the only two realistic solutions is for ED to either focus more on a generation of aircraft that are old enough and unclassified to be granted the necessary licenses. Or just wait for MAC to be released where ED could have more freedom to feature a more modern set of aircraft using low fidelity simulation that are well balanced because it would not be as restricted. But the caveat would be that it would all be limited to just low fidelity modules by my understanding.
-
I can totally understand wanting more options but as far as full fidelity options go it is what it is. We are just going to make do with what ever a developer is lucky enough to get approved for development. And sure there could be more potential options available through MAC in the future but it would just be a guesstimate of an aircraft representation that looks like a Russian fighter jet. For that you don't even need to wait for MAC as there are a few other options out there that can provide that.
-
Just as a reminder the MIG 23 is coming to DCS by RAZBAM.
-
A Gripen would be nice but it is also very unlikely since it is a fairly new jet with classified systems that is still being produced and exported to other countries. Brazil is set to start production of them soon. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/34646/swedens-saab-launches-gripen-e-smart-fighter-component-production-in-brazil

Not only that but older jets without fly by wire are just more enjoyable to fly. Check out what Col. Giora Epstein, Israels top Ace with 17 kills says about the difference between his older Mirage III and the F-16 @42:08 min.
-
This is very good news indeed. A good attack helicopter has been missing from DCS. Now we just need a C-17 to deploy them to near the front lines for a more realistic scenario. :smilewink:

ED is not able to develop full fidelity Red aircraft that are Russian because it is a Russian Company. How ever the 3rd parties are free to do so if they can obtain a license and the necessary data. See the pod cast below for more details. So ED is basically limited to German, Japaneses WWII Red aircraft or European aircraft that were used by some middle east countries like the Hawker Hunter in the Six day war. https://alert5podcast.podbean.com/e/scramble-04-matt-wags-wagner/
-
AMEN! I am sure ED and all the 3rd parties are well aware of the big interest for Russian aircraft by now. So I am sure the 3rd parties would jump at the opportunity if it would actually became feasible.

This is exactly what I have been trying to explain to some people on here. There is a big potential market of people out there that have no interest in combat aircraft but would love to fly some type of support aircraft. But I have encountered some resistance from people that are either too hard headed to see it and the benefits it would bring to DCS or they are just too selfish to support anything else other than their agenda for another combat jet because it would just get in the way of their dream jet. I think that the C-2 Grayhound would be a great start to open the door to cargo transport missions in DCS. And since the C-2 shares the same engines and wings with the E-2 a good amount of the work will already be done when they go to start development on the E-2. Here are a few of the quotes I have have seen around that show that there are many more people out there interested in non combat military aircraft. "Would love to see an E-3 Hawkeye join us in DCS. Being a Commercial pilot, that would make my day. All this Hornet stuff is far too stressful. LOL" "A C-2 would be amazing and would definitely get me more involved in the flying part of the group I am in (as I only have a yoke at the moment). ED may as well take my money now if it is being developed!" https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=221503 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=252031

I agree with you. The most realistic expectation for more modern Russian aircraft in the future will be for the new MAC game/simulator that DCS is currently working on. I would not mind F-16A and F/A-18A but from what I have seen there would be more interest in other older aircraft.

It is out of date but it is still the best place where someone new can get a decent overview of what the current pipeline looks like among all the developers. If this site or another where kept up it would really cut down on the multiple new threads we see here for aircraft that are already in development or planned. There are a lot of people that don't do their research before posting. At least this out of date site still helps out guiding people to the developers site that would like to find out more the latest update on an aircraft. The site has a link to each of the developers websites.

My guess is that the engines in AI units are simulated with a very basic code so that all 4 engines just appear to be rotating. They don't need individual engine simulation because they are basically just props.
-
Exactly. With the addition of the P-47 ED can now more easily develop the modeling of a radial engine. RAZBAM is also currently working on another Twin prop airplane the Pucara. I imagine four engine simulation will eventually come. Just that DCS may not be coded to support it at this time. ED might actually already begun working on the coding for when the day comes. For now we are just going to have to be patient and wait for the things to evolve to it.

The reason as to why ED can not do full fidelity Russian aircraft can be found in this Podcast at 11:18 min. From my understating FC aircraft are not fully licensed which is why they currently exist in DCS as they are in their simplified and guesstimated form that does not require a license. However only 3rd party developers would be able to do a full fidelity Russian aircraft if they can obtain a license. https://alert5podcast.podbean.com/e/scramble-04-matt-wags-wagner/

That is very interesting that the C-130 is now going to be officially entering firefighting service since it is very well suited for the job. I had actually started a thread a while ago to get some firefighting assets and equipment to turn some of the aircraft already in DCS into firefighting models like the Huey. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=219209

I just recently read this new interesting article that talks about how the A-7 was the first combat aircraft that had a HUD and how it was a revolution. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/34405/the-a-7-corsair-iis-heads-up-display-was-a-revolution-in-air-combat
