they changed the law recently to allow Nazi symbols in entertainment and games in Germany. article 86a now covers computer games with the social adequacy clause. so they are fair to use. does any other nation ban them? if not then this practise is redundant.

Lets talk about those static sniper tanks in the quickstart mission
Quadg replied to jetstorm96's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
was reading about British marine helicopters in Iraq. the book starts with them being fired on by tanks when they don't know where they are. a lynx with TOW paired with an unarmed gazelle. they fly in a large circle. when one is taking fire the other spots. they finally found the tank in a school and did a run in attack with the lynx. as the tank was still firing its main gun. they purposely avoided the hover attack. if you keep moving they cannot hit you. Turns out the Cantabrian circle from roman times, also works with scout/attack helicopters :) the light cavalry of the future :) just operate in pairs and stay opposite sides of the circle. obviously multiplayer only. -
Adjust the spring tension on the pedals. because you have an excellent system for doing this on those pedals. Use weak/none for helicopters, medium for war birds and strong for modern jets. Find your personal preference. A bit more of a hassle than messing with software curves but your brain instantly notices the difference and adjusts. Which is good if you change aircraft a lot. Basically you get more feedback than using software curves. and it does the same thing. You just have to adjust the pedals between airframes. Avoiding software curves is one of the selling points for these pedals :)

air force vs navy... and we keep getting new navy aircraft. the airforce gets all the really good toys.

f-4hxNKvEY0 that explains what is going on with the chips this year. although intel does not look like it will drop the 10nm chips this year.. so look out for the AMD. it also does not cover the security flaws that are in the intel architecture. they keep finding more and every one keeps costing a little speed. im sure my chip has lost 10-15% at least if I look at performance from old games. why I don't want a 9xxx chip. same problems. for intel wait for the 10nm to drop. the good news is my rig will last a little longer as we don't need to replace every 2 years.. I have made my own rigs since 1995. this is actually the oldest one I have ever had :)

Bug in PFM? Canards change pitch when going >900km/h or <800km/h
Quadg replied to BlackPixxel's topic in Su-33 for DCS World
the canards control air flow across the wing. by taking that shape at high speed they probably greatly reduce the drag created by the wings. by reducing the airflow across them. thus more than compensating for the increased drag of the canards. would be my wild assed guess :) -

move the windows taskbar to the side. usually you hit one of the taskbar shortcuts and that switches windows focus. and its windows focus that stops everything from working.. you can still hit the taskbar with the mouse confined to the app. watch the mouse when you move it to the edge of the app on your screen. it moves outside by a few MM and pops back. and you can still click outside. with the task bar to the side it is to far from the sides of the app to hit like this. or use alt-enter and go full screen. but as I sometimes record I tend to fly not full screen. so I confine the mouse and moved the taskbar.

RL usually is a two letter acronym for "Real life" you are in trouble when people start using three letter acronyms (TLA) :) like CIA, FBI, FSB, KGB, MI6, GRU etc

I used to get this quite often with my throttle. but after a while of flying. a reboot of the pc always fixed it. found out it was the USB bus being overloaded. so I unplugged half the stuff I was not using. I since got VR and another USB card so I have split the load a lot more and don't see it anymore. I actually think the culprit was my steering wheel.. which now remains unplugged when I'm flying. so try unplugging all usb devices except the throttle and see if it works.

you can shorten the learning curve by doing good training. the hardest things to learn is managing the aircraft around the edges of ground effect and translational lift. so hover practise, hover taxi, take off and landing.. us the pickup training mission. take off and land at the opposite end of the runway. on the numbers. turn around and repeat. us the runway for a reference for keeping the nose straight. so you ca get a feel for the speed and approach. and then just learn the transitions. entering ground effect at 50ft and then exiting translational lift at 40mph. (its normally slower but use 40 in the huey) its harder doing it the other way round exiting translational lift and then entering GE. so practise that too. you can do 50 take offs/landings an hour.. and will master it in an afternoon or two. don't bother with missions. you don't need 40 minutes of straight flight between landings when you are learning. you need to just take off and land as many times as you can in an hour.. also hover and hover taxi.. nothing teaches you the translational lift boundary like racing round the taxi ways.. so mix in some taxiing to the other end of the runway for when you get bored. you need to learn the sounds that the rotors make as you play around the edges of translational lift. this way you will quickly see improvement in your flying.. so the learning curve will not look so steep. you will find it less discouraging. because every time you land you will be closer to the numbers. until you hit them every time. and then you will breeze through the UN campaign. off topic but I wish we had Loss of tail rotor effectiveness to worry about as well.. mIW7JZbGf0Y[/Youtube]

flying helicopters is just like riding a bike. it takes lots of falling off to learn but once it clicks you never forget how..

I took the main spring out of my warthog 2 years ago and have not wanted it back :)

swing wing aircraft are a heavy way to answer the question "how do I have a delta wing shape for faster than the speed of sound and a different shaped wing for better manoeuvrability below the speed of sound." the FA-18/ f-35 (mig 29/su-27) use a modified delta wing shape with leading edge wing extensions (LERX) that modify airflow across the wing when below the speed of sound. so its a delta when above the sound barrier and not a delta below the sound barrier. AS AOA changes with speed. the f14 physically changes the shape of its wing to achieve a similar effect. but at much greater cost in weight. delta shape for fast, non-delta for slow. the British and French use a true delta shape wing and control airflow across it using canards mounted in front of (and slightly above) the wing. so moving LERX rather than fixed. at high AOA and low speeds the canards direct air parallel to the wing so the delta wing does not stall and control surfaces remain usable. which gives insane manoeuvrability and great super cruise efficiency. because its a true delta. but you need a computer to fly it and good software to get the most out of it.. anyway nobody has made a true swing wing since the 80's because they are obsolete.. its better to change the airflow across the wing instead of change the whole shape of the wing.. on the fly.. the fact you lose in WVR to everything is not a bug.. why training became so important in the top gun program.. making up for deficiencies..

I think the opposite :) name one giant developer that has a wh40k license? relic got big off dawn of war.. gothic armada guys got big off gothic armada.. but they started as tiny developers for a reason.. GW protects its intellectual property and wont let the big boys near it. ED are specialists at dealing with other peoples intellectual property.. so they could pair up well.. could the market handle a scfi simulator? more people play elite dangerous. and a siege map for DCS would actually be a good start for a good persistent multiplayer experience. with identical equipment on each side for balance.. why I chose the horus heresy. angry space marine v angry space marine on earth. the Himalayas turned into the inner palace to be precise. think Stalingrad x1000000. the best siege attackers (iron warriors) v the best siege defence (imperial fists) = endless bloodbath. a siege was used by il2 for good multiplayer.. hint hint.. and last we can add prayers to the omnisiahh to the startup procedures. miss your prayers of awakening and the machine spirit will be angry.. miss your incantation of destruction and your weapon will misfire. use auto start and the machine will vomit you from the cockpit in disgust. I see a use for voice attack.

As VKB has just launched a space combat stick.. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=228428 ED should do a WH40K tie in and give us a space marine thunder hawk gunship. the map can be the battle for terra. during the Horus heresy. with an asset pack of rhino's, landraiders and titans :)

agreed.. human RIO are going to be 600kg of dead weight on the airframe.. especially early in the launch.. two seat aircraft are supposed to have greater awareness than single seat aircraft.. they are also less manoeuvrable because of the weight. so its a win lose situation already without having an idiot/no RIO :)

a nice simple demonstration of FOV the narrow fov looks slower and more zoomed in than the wider FOV. the wider fov seems a lot faster even though the time to cover the corridor is the same. the view of the window at the end is very different too. different zoom.

change the shadows to flat. lots of shadows when manoeuvring hard. turn off anisotropic filtering. set pd to 1.2 and you have the same settings as me. I also have chimney smoke off because I often only see it in one eye..

the ka-50 is definitely worth checking out for rotor lovers. its the experiment that failed. the one man attack helicopter. you can tell it failed because the Russians much prefer the two man ka-52. so its not a problem with the air frame or weapons. it just takes way to much effort to use it well with some odd automation choices that really make it interesting. pure gold for simmers. but yes some new choppers are definitely needed in DCS.. not necessarily new ones with glass cockpits that fly themselves, though.. a gunship with something similar to the f-14 jester AI for the gunner would be a dream..

OP +1 The takeover of belsimtek was a bad day for rotor heads. All that helicopter knowledge being dispersed amongst fixed wing projects.. I have not bought the fa-18 and I'm not interested in an f-16. the last jet I bought was the harrier.. because it thinks its a helicopter. any chance we can get some official word on the mi-24? us rotor heads need a little TLC after valentines day.

yep every time you use pressure to provide force you cannot return it to the bottle. its bled off to remove the force. so without a compressor the pressure bottle cannot be refilled. so it will eventually empty. brakes, landing gear and chute all use pressure. migs in private hands may have compressors added for safety. and there is a margin for error. you can handle more than one take off and landing.
-
to save weight (its an interceptor) they left out a compressor for high pressure air. so you only have a finite amount of pressure stored in the system. you should never do touch and goes in a mig 21:) if you forget to put the gear lever into neutral you will bleed air and not have enough to deploy the chute or use the brakes when you land. basically doing touch and goes you bleed off all your air raising and lowering the gear. and using the brakes.

setting the parking brake in the p51 can be a bit tricky at first. its an odd system. so if its moving in the tutorial I would say he is failing to set the brake. op you should idle at 1200 rpm to warm the engine to operating temp and it should not move at this speed with or without the brake. its best practice to use the brake :)

Mission 4 'Race Against Time' - Misleading ADF
Quadg replied to Cleric's topic in Missions and Campaigns
the fact these two frequencies are close together is part of the mission design. we all learned the valuable lesson "make sure you have the right frequency.." and we learn it the hard way :) somebody dies... so its a good mission :)
