Should I buy: Logitech , Saitek or Thrustmaster ?
Slayer replied to jib's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If your stick was sitting around unused for a long time it probably just needed to get used. Things with analogue pots tend to get funny like that. I remember haing to use WD-40 on the pots of my TM F-22....(and every other TM stick I ever owned for that matter) If they sat idle for a year or so. -
Does getting a new aircraft penalize you as a death in campaing/missions versus waitng 3 min for a new aircraft? I just use accelerate time when I'm waiting for repairs to speed things up :)

Good find, I haven't seen this info before. I was wondering why some people who were making skins were using this type of naming convention. I just figured they were taking the textures directly from the game and not using the .psd files. The weird thing for me is when I have to switch the Paint 1 and 2 files around in my skin.lma7 file or the textures come out wrong. This sounds like a great timesaver at any rate, thanks for the tip. If someone had the skills they could just make a "shell" for import into CS4 of the outside of the blackshark to wrap the texture files onto. I can do some retexturing, but I suck at 3DSMAX and don't have a current version. The last time I tried to learn it I think it was on version 5...quite a while ago.

I'm practicing on some easy skins now once I get it all figured out I might try to make it on my own :)

Only Dragons ancient runway mod. Using Modman7. The default helicopters render correctly so I'm pretty sure it's not a driver issue. The insides of the gear and cockpit bottom/sides are missing. The gun is there but the stuff behind it isn't. I'm sure its a mistake on my part I'm just not sure what texture it is :/ Getting tired maybee I'll just take a fresh look at it tomorrow :)

I can't seem to figure out what file I am missing or where I keep going wrong.... any help would be appreciated :/ I'm using the template off of the DCS downloads page and made it a modman package. I've tried adding the Paint3 (cockpit textures) that I've seen in othe rmods but doesnt seem to help any...

I would even be happy how to use modelviewer if I could figure out how to make it display my skin....just no documentation on how to use it in the game files that I can see.

A little late...your post was like 10 days later

Flight Simulator=DEAD Microsoft fired everyone on the FSX devlopment team and has basically abandoned Flight Simulator..... http://pc.ign.com/articles/947/947737p1.html EDIT: Ooops for some reason the other threads below didn't show up to me. Sorry for the duplicate post....

I would like to be able to get the 3DSMax model of the Ka-50 so I can load it into CS4 and see the skins as I work on them instead of having to repack into a .cdds, repackage mod, uninstall old version then reinstall new version or trying to remove and insert into the cdds. This would be a huge timesaver, but the way I understand it is that the 3ds max models are converted to a .lom file? Is there any way to reverse this or unpackage it back to a 3d model I could use in CS4? Wondering how the dev team did it...this way is so time consuming and frustrating....

Your system specs don't look bad at all I get that stutter once in a great while, but it's only for a split second. It always happens when something is accessing the harddisk. Loading terrain or something would be my guess? Could also be related to sound, I've read some users using cheap onboard sound having these kind of problems too. Things I would check: 1) Updated drivers (chipset/video/sound/BIOS etc) 2) Make sure DMA is enabled for your hardrive controler 3) Kill all unneeded programs before starting the game, especially anti virus 4) Turn water setting in game to medium 5) Turn off the indexing service in your control panel, it always seems to decide to index at the most inappropriate times. 6) Run a disk cleanup and do a defrag. Especially if you are running low on disk space. Also check this post, something to do with having altered the pageing file: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=35162&highlight=stuttering

I created a quick list of the country GUID's so I wouldn't have to keep digging through the db_countries.lua when making skins.

Some kind of voting system would be good too. Lots of games do this. It lets players vote for a kick...some implement a temp ban after x number of kicks. It's a good system considering most don't have an admin on station 100% of the time.

Nothing official but most people believe it due to the DirectX in Vista. It should increase even more so in Windows7 since it's DirectX11 (Not sure if it's in the beta everyone is using)

They had a poll on their forums asking if people would buy it so they could decide to develop it or not. Hopefully we will see this come to light some day :)

DCS: How to gain performance on Windows Vista (Windows 7)
Slayer replied to eV1Te's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
DirectX 11 should help with this even more. They are adding more mutiprocessor support to it. I looked at some presentation slides of it. The benefit of this is that even apps not coded for multicore will benefit. It's also supposed to backwards compatible with DirectX9/10 generation hardware. There is no quick and dirty way to make an app multithreaded if it isn't built that way from the ground up. I'm guessing we won't see this for a while on this game. -
'Laser' Malfunction after RE-ARM bug - any news?
Slayer replied to Dropbear's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Just goto the gas station and buy a handful of those cheap pen lazers and a roll of duct tape. Problem solved ! -
It's a 3 position switch [anti-Ice/off/Dust] both can't be on at the same time and the indicators tell us that also. Besides what situation would require both? If your landing in unimproved areas then you need dust protection. If your flying in the mountains or its freezing and snowing then anti-ice. I knew it affected engine power in anti-ice. Just wasn't sure about dust protect. Guess I'll make it a habit to turn this to off after takeoff. Thanks for the reply ALpha

How much addressable memory is available on your system? I had many performance problems in XP due to having so little address space left because of 2x graphics cards with 768 megs each. I just ask because I noticed you have a card with 1 gig of video memory Games like battlefield 2142 that were running close to 2 gigs of memory being used would choke or crash. Do you notice if the lag is related to being near citys or water? To me these seems to have a bigger impact on performance instead of the number of units.

Didn't Wags used to work for Janes way back in time? Seems like I remember reading something about this.

Now we need to see how it operates in de-ice mode :) seems like this system would get fouled out pretty quickly with ice buildup. Also I would like to know if the dust protection lowers the performance of the engine like de-ice?

When Im playing around I use 50% or less fuel load and no ordinance, helps out tremendously with these types of manouvers. Head tracking does help in a hammerhead, I'm not even watching the instruments. I just pull vertical while looking out the left side. Once my forward motion slows right before I start to slip backwards I initiate the turn. The increased SA of headtrack is very nice.

The more popular the game , the worse the problem is with that. Bunch of kiddies that get thier enjoyment of gaming by ruining it for others. That is the game for them...

Thanks. I'll dig into these and see if I can find what I'm looking for.
