This is the take I most agree with here. Let's not forget about magic CCIP, missing EHSD symbology for JDAMS and CAS targets. Also, not sure how anyone is following the attack run procedures in the NATOPS. They all reference course line deviations. These should be on the EHSD (even according to the training mission in the sim) but are not implemented.

If this were true how come he doesn't hit the earth at hyper sonic speed and burn up in the atmosphere? Kepler's law wouldn't indicate your conclusion at all. Try picking ccip twice. Might be a bug or my misunderstanding but I've had to do that before.

This isn't exactly true. You put the jet into NAV to quickly access the EFI. The INS button shouldn't be powered at this point. INS shouldn't be supplied power until after light off. You CAN if you want if speed is your goal, but it isn't the proper procedure. When you do power INS later, the INS runs its BIT. On BIT completion. the middle MPCD is automatically put on the INS page, and the left MPCD is automatically put on the DEST page, even though you hit NAV before. The procedure up to that point should be (according to DEKA): 1. Power on batter and generators 2. Enable WMCD 1 and 2 and the two buttons above and to the left (forget what they are, basically for COMMs) 3. Turn on the master volume and the volume for the radios and warnings 4. Turn on internal lights if desired 5. Turn on radio 6. Turn on HUD and UFCP 7. Turn on digital engine control, fuel pump, uncage throttle 8. Enter NAV master mode 9. Press engine ignite for 5 seconds. Observe the EFI for nominal light-off 10. Once power has stabilized, set the conditioning system to "Auto" 11. Switch on SAHRS. Observe "SAHRS Align" on the left MPCD 12. Press "INS" on the AACP 13. After a short delay, left and middle MPCDs change to DEST and INS pages respectively 14. If you choose "FAST" align, or move the dial right to "NAV", the middle MPCD will allow you enter heading. If you choose the longer alignment option, you will not be presented to change the heading, because it is not necessary in this mode, though alignment will take longer

I always get shot down by SAMs when I get to the target area. I have to gain altitude (I fly a lot of Viggen, so NOE flight is no problem for me) to see the targets they want me to recon. As soon as I pop my head above 2k ft AGL, I get mud spiked and launched. I heard the TOT function was bugged and I was using it. I wonder if I'm showing up early and don't realize it? I thought the point of the window according to the brief was that SAMs would be off line during this window due to maintenance. I was surprised the two times I've flown it to be engaged when I gained altitude.

Very true. AIM54 being retired the same time as the Tomcat makes sense. You wouldn't say the GAU8 is not a good gun because they retire it the same time as the A10. A10 was built around that gun, and the F14 was built around the AIM54 and AWG9. -
So much conjecture here. From wikipedia regarding the AIM54C's mission: "In 1977, development of a significantly improved Phoenix version, the AIM-54C, was developed to better counter projected threats from tactical anti-naval aircraft and cruise missiles, and its final upgrade included a re-programmable memory capability to keep pace with emerging ECM." From wikipedia re. Iran/Iraq service record: "According to Tom Cooper and Farzad Bishop, during the Iran-Iraq War AIM-54s fired by IRIAF Tomcats achieved 78 victories against Iraqi MiG-21/23/25s, Tu-22s, Su-20/22s, Mirage F 1s, Super Étendards, and even two AM-39 Exocets and a C-601. This includes two occasions where one AIM-54 was responsible for the downing of two Iraqi aircraft, as well as an incident on January 7, 1981 where a Phoenix fired at a four-ship of MiG-23s downed three and damaged the fourth" It's not a death ray, but it's clearly not just for bombers and wasn't designed as such.

A6 would be amazing. Precision bombing, onboard LD, great ground radar. Very unique aircraft with a very specific mission, just like the Viggen. -
Could you elaborate? As far as I know no matter what you do in terms of setup, you will never be able to detect static objects, only vehicles. The OP was not specific as to the exact type of ground target they are searching for. I find unless I'm looking for vehicles or ships, the radar lacks the precision to do anything but updates with about 100's of meters of error, which with TERNAV is usually counter-productive.

Static targets in general won't show a synthetic return, which is what those bricks in GMT are (as well as SEA). They would, however, show on a map. The higher the resolution of the map, the smaller objects you will be able to see. Right now DBS/EXP are satelite maps, but the idea is similar in the way that the satelite view uses the visible part of the EM spectrum and the radar operates in the radio part. There is no physical reason objects like hangars, warehouses, ammo dumps and bunkers wouldn't show on a radar map, as the radar map is only using the doppler effect to sharpen the resolution as opposed to an actual filter. They just won't show as a synthetic brick because the radar isn't in a mode where it can make assumptions. I.e., in GMT the radar can assume you are looking for a moving target on the ground. In mapping modes you're saying "show me what this area of the Earth looks like at X resolution"

No I can't even get the recom done because it is too vague what I'm supposed to be doing when I pass wp3 and come up on 5 6 7 and 8. Can you change loadouts? The brief recommends against engaging. Wonder if it'd be worth to send 4 sd10's down range at rmax then turn and run. It's tough because if you get any altitude you're SAM bait

You can detect ground vehicles. They show up as small dots. Even a single vehicle will show at 15km. The Viggen's radar will not show buildings. They don't appear to have a radar cross section enabled. Normally, large buildings would serve as excellent landmarks for navigation but are invisible to the Viggen. Many of the bridges suffer the same issue and simply do not appear despite being quite large. I suspect this is a DCS issue as opposed to a Viggen one. I hope it's correctec when ED finishes their API. Bottom line, it depends on what you are targeting to determine whether or not it will show up on the radar

This makes sense. If you had that profile active, then used master mode to switch to CCRP, then all of the other profile constraints would still exist except now delivery mode is CCRP.

Don't think that's a "problem" with an A10. You shouldn't be flying an A10 anywhere near any peer or near-peer modern IADs. Realistic IS flying where there aren't advanced air defense systems in the A10.

This is a cool idea, don't know why i didn't think of it. I do something like this all the time when JTAC assigns me a final attack heading. I generate a waypoint at the TAD location from the message, then select that waypoint and set the course on the HSI. It didn't occur to me I could essentially do the same thing JTAC does with my flight.

1. I think ziptie is right here, you're SPI isn't where you think it is. Double-check the TAD You didn't touch DTOF or anything like that in the profile page, right? Agree with others if this is still a problem we'd need to see a track. 2. Fly IFR landings with ILS. Seriously. Teaches you how to avoid PIOs and not to "chase" the symbology, but slowly guide into it, which is the primary problem I see when it comes to CCRP. Think ahead. Don't just always aim to put the dot on the ASL initially. You will want to overshoot it when it's way off then gently center it with your FPM. As you move from right to left, counter your movements BEFORE you can visually observe the pendulum has swung too far. Try and predict what the aircraft will do before it actually does it. When you do this, it will appear "smooth" and that's the look you're going for. 3. I use CCRP all the time below 8k ft. A shallow dive (dive<10deg) is a great way to put accurate bombs on target. String bombing columns with CBU97's when you want to stay out of their engagement envelope for is a great use for CCRP you just can't get with CCIP. Accuracy isn't really an issue within reason with these, either. If they are moving, just make sure you set the HOF lower or they drive right past the submunitions. If you're above 10k, you need to be dropping your bombs in strings with decent intervals to make up for the inherent inaccuracy of dropping iron at that altitude. As far as speed, the faster the better. The earlier you can drop your bombs the more survivable you will be. The A10 really can't get fast enough level to worry about your speed. In general you should be above 250kts, ideally above 300kts if you can manage it. Basically, if you need to drop iron in an area with a heavy low-alt AAA threat, CCRP is going to be your go-to.
