  1. It is likely very cost effective and the big explosion radius doesn't require it to be accurate. It allows them to avoid putting boots on the ground. How does that not make sense? Stuff like this come out of necessity, not planning.
  2. I would prefer that they focus on armament for conventional conflicts first but otherwise I generally think field modifications and odd special weapons like this are quite interesting. In my opinion this aspect of the discussion is pure politics. This weapon makes perfect sense in the case of house-to-house fighting in ruined cities where there is unlikely to be any civilians left. And any weapon can kill civilians.
  3. Vega launch today (KasEOSat-1 satellite).
  4. Proton-M launch yesterday (KazSat-3, Luch 5B satellites).
  5. I like it. It looks like it has potential to greatly improve immersion. I definitely intend to look into it. Especially with the VR-headsets that will soon be available I feel a new level of immersion is suddenly possible that justifies having something like this.
  6. "The Border" (2007) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0847759/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Border_(2007_film)
  7. Actually it does use https if you first go to the login page using a url that specifies it. From there it also posts using https. So the problem is rather that it doesn't enforce https for the login process. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com
  8. Here's another mission (SAR) you could try: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=123195
  9. This is my first attempt at creating a mission for anyone but myself to use. I do have some experience playing with the mission editor for lots of tiny missions that I made before so it shouldn't be too bad. The mission takes about 30 minutes. It has some replayability. It's a ©SAR-mission and the pilot to rescue is selected randomly out of 5 different locations and situations and on top of that the combination of hostile units on the ground is selected randomly out of 3 sets so there is a total of 15 more or less unique situations. Some are easy and some are hard but with a bit of evasive flying they should all be possible to complete. Have fun! For anyone that has not learned to use the radio/nav systems in the Mi-8 yet, this mission is a good place to start. CSAR_Abkhazian_Border.miz
  10. Have you tried using it as the sandbox that it is? Perhaps your own interest is narrower and shallower than the width and depth of DCS?
  11. It's an armed transport helicopter. I can understand the confusion if you're trying to use it as an attack helicopter. However, it isn't really less capable than the UH-1H in combat. There's no DCS aircraft I enjoy more than the Mi-8 right now. What I do is I set up small transport and SAR missions in the ME with varying levels of hostility on the ground. I use the navigation/homing systems to fly to different locations for drop-offs/pick-ups and engage infantry, manpads, unarmoured and light armoured vehicles. The Mi-8 does this beautifully. Often I also fly unarmed and it is no less fun because so much of the joy is in just flying the thing. The flight model is stunning. Some tips. Try more transport-type missions like you do with the UH-1H. Make sure you are not putting the Mi-8 against a too difficult opposition (e.g. MBT's and heavy SAMS because it would not be used to attack such targets in reality). And (if you haven't already) learn to use all the systems available to you in the cockpit, I find that it adds a lot of enjoyment.
  12. Onboard footage of the Soyuz launch carrying Sentinel-1A. Proton-M crash.
  13. Ariane 5 rising like a sun in the distance. Atlas V launch and onboard camera footage. Virgin Galactic test launch.
  14. Launch of Sentinel-1A on a Soyuz from Kourou.
  15. This is a thread for anything space related which I think is appropriate in the "Military and Aviation" section as it is certainly related to one but sometimes both of those things. Post news, photos and/or videos that may be of interest to others. 16. I'm one of those odd people here that never had much interest in aviation. Perfect eyesight though. Experience is limited to a few hours in a Socata TB10 with a friend who's got a license but while that was fun I'm just not that fascinated by it.
  17. Clearly there is potential and I'm very much looking forward to see what they come up with.
