  1. If you can see the thumbs up symbol below the picture with a number next to it, just click that. I just made it 154.
  2. Lynx, defo. Wessex, not so much.
  3. +1 I really like this idea, though you could take it even further by displaying the turning moment left or right, since it is both the weight and it's distance from the aircraft centerline that should be balanced. Could be a bit of overkill though, but I agree that IRL they probably take care with this.
  4. Correct me if I'm wrong (and I probably am), but wasn't the Christen Eagle partly or wholly commissioned by a 3rd party? I'm sure I read that somewhere years ago, but sure enough to say I'm sure.
  5. You can get background radio chatter if you get Viacom Pro. It's only €8.50 for the base version, which does more than just chatter.
  6. I'm not saying I'm totally against the idea, but when it comes down to making a payware module I just wonder if it would be worth the effort. I'd love to see how sales of the Christen Eagle or Yak compare to those of the combat modules.
  7. I know virtually nothing about the ME, but is there a way to do this using existing tools? Can you attach a trigger zone to an aircraft? If so, then couldn't you simply get the AI ROE to change from HOLD to FREE when it enters the zone during the merge?
  8. Had the Viggen for ages. I can fly it but admit that I really haven't spent the time needed to learn the navigation and weapon systems properly. (Plus there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of me ever learning all the different RWR tones in the thing. Seriously, who decided on that system???) I tried the discord link above but it seems to have expired. Any chance of posting it again?
  9. Dibs on the Cylon heavy raider!!!
  10. Doesn't the UH-60 have about 40 knots over the Apache though?
  11. Given that the top speed of the Apache is in the region of the 150kt mark I think it's firmly outside the practical envelope for any tanker aircraft anyway, isn't it?
  12. Agreed. ED is a software company, not hardware. Historically when one tries to do the other it results in an utter dog's dinner of a product. It wouldn't be unreasonable to approach an established peripheral manufacturer to see if they might produce such products with DCS branding on them, but I suspect that it won't happen due to DCS being quite a niche market. Yes, I know we're all passionate about it, but in terms of users (and hence prospective sales) we're a drop in the ocean compared to things like Call of Duty. That being said, there's nothing to stop someone from perhaps producing customised key-caps for DCS, or offering aftermarket graphics to be applied to your existing hardware.
  13. Sorry, but I have to say that I don't like any of these ideas. DCS is, at it's heart, a combat simulator, and I don't see any of these random events adding anything to the gameplay. Wheel spray is just another thing to render and tax your system. Tire damage is already there. As for FOD or bird strikes, this is just something that's going to ruin your plans. I don't really fancy the idea of spending 10 or 15 minutes spooling up on the apron to have to abort the mission because of a pebble on the runway, or spend an hour weaving through terrain on the way to a target only to get splatted by a kamikaze goose. That said, if ED decide to do it then all good. I just don't see this adding much to my enjoyment of the sim.
  14. I can't believe you didn't include the Lynx or Wildcat in the list. Shame on you!
  15. I have no problem with this announcement at all. If ED believe they need the extra time to release a product that lives up to the standards people expect from them then it's entirely right to delay, and I genuinely appreciate the fact that they decided to communicate this to us now.
  16. I'm curious about your reasons for wanting such a map, in particular including part of Antarctica. I think the current maps are all only around 800km across, yet it seems like the shortest distance between Oz and Antarctica is in the region of 3000km, and the map would have to be even larger than this to actually include any landmass (excluding places like Tasmania.) Given the lack of any airfields (that I know of) suited to fighter operations on Antarctica this would mean any mission flown from a fixed base in Oz would be well over 6000km, nearly half the distance flown during the Black Buck raid during the Falklands War, meaning that even with significant refuelling support it would make for one hell of a long flight. I'd be interested to hear your views on how you might use such a map, which would mainly be around 9 million square km of ocean.
  17. Check that both DCS and the SD software are both running in administrator mode. I couldn't get any keystrokes to send from the SD when I first got it, but that fixed it for me.
  18. If you're just trying to send keystrokes via HOTKEY buttons on the SD then this sounds like a common issue that I fell foul of when I got my SD. Check that the Streamdeck software and DCS are both running in Administrator Mode. If one is and the other isn't then that seems to stop the keystrokes making their way through.
  19. At first glance I'm not a fan of this idea. The current wait for repairs is perfect for walking away and putting the kettle on. If the time for repairs was reduced then I think people won't be as concerned about taking damage, but if it was made longer then they might just opt to spawn a new aircraft rather than wait.
  20. ...and the local barometric pressure was the same. My assertion was based on the idea that an operational airfield would have some sort of traffic control in place to pass the local QFE to the pilot. That being said, if such a situation occurred then traffic control could just as easily pass the field elevation to the pilot which would allow for an approach and landing using QNH, and any pilot will tell you that QNH is the optimal reference for maintaining obstacle clearance. The thing is there are multiple methods that could all work, but no readily available source of information that I can find to denote which is used where, why and by whom. That's good to know, but can you elaborate a little for me, as I can envisage situations where things may not be so clear-cut. For example, would the TA be the local TA or would it be assigned to an entire theatre by command and planning specialists? The TA for much of the UK is 3000ft AFAIK, yet within the London FIR and other busier areas it's double that at 6000ft. I'm guessing that C&C assets such as AWACS would pass target track information using QNE at all times? If not then pilots would have to recalculate in the US every time a target passed through 18000ft. (In reality I don't see this as a huge issue, as local deviation from QNE rarely exceeds a few hundred feet on a good day, and 1200-1500ft on a bad one. Radar-equipped intercept aircraft don't need to know a target's altitude down to the last foot.)
  21. I would surmise that the answer to this is "When it's good and ready and ED are satisfied that their customers will not rage at them for releasing a product that is not up to the standard that those customers expect." <Insert (IMO unfair) references to the Viper launch here>
  22. Unsure how this works. I know QNH is by far the most common reference in civil aviation, but is the same true for military flights? Do fighters takeoff and land on QFE and use QNE in the air? Practically speaking, I can see QFE being a valid reference for landing aircraft given that operational requirements may involve landing at unfamiliar airfields that the pilot may not have charts readily available for. Also, how do different countries' militaries vary? One might work on QFE, another on QNH.
  23. I think you've misunderstood part of what I'm asking for. I was hoping that we might have the ability to do things like tip over V1s added at some point. The fact that somebody tried it and failed isn't really pertinent to the request. It simply demonstrates that the functionality required to fly such a mission isn't there. That's why I've put it on the wishlist.
