  1. I'd recommend using OpenXR - or at least trying it. Then again I'm on a G2 so I'm a WMR victim user. If Open XR is the only option in MT then fine, I was using it before on ST and it gave a noticeable improvement in frametime consistency. MT is now much nicer. I was hitting an easy 50 frames in MP on Persian Gulf just now while flying a Spitfire at 300ft over an airstrip next to a town (Ground Textures on High) . I need a new CPU! 8 Cores/8Threads doesn't cut it anymore (9700K)
  2. Get a long throw stick, like the Authentikit Spitfire stick. It works great for the Mossie (and they'll have an actual Mossie stick eventually). I too have the Warthog but I don't use it for Warbirds as it doesn't have an extension.
  3. I dared to run a SteamVR game the other day and for some reason the next time I started DCS I was back in SteamVR there too instead of OpenXR. It was HORRIBLE, far worse than Steam VR ever was before I switched. So, I changed back to OpenXR and all was good again.
  4. Yes, I hear that vaicom is the way to go...
  5. Yes, but they're easy to assemble and you can buy kits from an affiliate that include all the bits that are not printed. It works out cheaper than buying them yourself because he buys in bulk and does the counting for you. The installation isn't hard, you just need to buy a monitor stand and clamp it to your desk upside down. I found the software setup for the trimwheels quite tricky but I was being stupid and once it's done, it's done. The guys on the discord will help you and as more of us install, there are more of us to share knowledge. The only part that I find weak are the clamps which hold the throttle, and trim wheels onto the metal tube that stands in for the left wall of the cockpit. I have had them crack by the screws a couple of times. It's not a huge deal because you can just print another one but you do have to be careful not to overtighten. In use, I've had the Spitfire stick running for a few months now and it has been fantastic. It makes a huge improvement for warbirds over the Warthog. The only thing I miss is having the spare buttons from the Warthog throttle which I had bound for things like Gunsight on/off, Guns safe/arm, starter and boost coil. Now I have to click them again or grope for the Keyboard. I think I might get a numberpad or something as I get lost on my full size K/B in VR. Yes, you definitely need to look VERY carefully at all the joints/crimps. I have soldered a few items but it isn't necessary.
  6. Interesting, very interesting. I'm running on a 9700K (8 cores, 8 threads, no HT for those who can't remember that far back!) that I bought because it had good single core performance at the time. I've been tempted by all the recent shiny CPUs and wondering if they would give me much more in DCS but I think this announcement gives me another reason to wait before upgrading. I can run any normal game very nicely, so it's not like there's a rush. I think I'll wait to see benchmarks for the multithread update before splooging on any more hardware to run my Reverb G2.
  7. https://authentikit.org/mosquito/ I'm printing mine right now Here's how to assemble it:
  8. I have the Spit IX spade, Throttle and trim wheels. I'm printing the Mosquito Throttle right now
  9. We don't need vendor lock-in. You may be happy to commit to NVidia forever but we should be able to choose another supplier in the future if their product is superior/better value/prettier/whatever.
  10. Wellll that's not really how it works. You pay EU1000 you get the software you bought, according to the terms and conditions. I haven't read the TnCs but I bet they don't include free updates for life.
  11. MeganeX https://www.caesarvr.com/metaverse-zone/panasonic-launches-meganex-lightweight-steamvr-headset It's interesting! OLED and pancake lenses will be a nice combo for sure. Not a day 1 purchase for me but I'll be looking at reviews for sure. If it's 2560x2560 per eye then that's a decent lift over the G2 but I can't imagine many systems will push DCS through it at 120Hz in the next couple of years! Let's hope it ships to the UK and doesn't cost as much as an Aero.
  12. I understand your sentiment that software should be purchased once but saying "Tax" is over-emotional. A license fee is not a tax and Moore's Law doesn't have anything to do with the ridiculous prices charged by NVidia this time round. (Please God, let AMD see sense and undercut them significantly with the RX7000s!) ED do indeed need to concentrate on the game engine, it is horribly out of date and is holding back the whole experience. However, from what I can see, the revenue comes from module sales. It may well be that module devs pay ED for the privilege of running on the DCS ecosystem but even if that is true, funding the essential core updates will still come second to module sales. We both, essentially, want the same thing: Multithread and Vulkan ASAP. I'm prepared to pay a little money for it. I do agree that if you buy software you should have the right to run it forever. BUT you don't have a right to expect it to be updated indefinitely free of charge. DCS is a game that has ended up with the longevity of commercial software. While I might expect a patch or two from a game before I get bored/stop playing it, commercial software is nearly always available on a purchase + annual support basis or has transitioned to a pure annual sub. Why? because commercial software is constantly developed - just like DCS. Of course, skilled developers are expensive.
  13. Wait for AMD, rasterisation is what counts in DCS so once you remove all the DLSS 3.0 hype you see it's a straight fight. You'll know a lot more on 3rd Nov and NDA should lift soon after that for 3rd party reviews. OR buy a 4090 now and give it to me when the 7950XT launches and you upgrade
  14. FSR yes DLSS no and I say that as an NVidia owner. One who is looking at the leaks around the rasterisation scores for the 7000 series GPUs and thinking that it could be time to switch to AMD. If we're locked into one vendor by one specific tech then we're not going to be able to choose the price/performance that suits us. This is a very bad thing for DCS as a whole which is limited in market share to people who have a ton of spare money, or those who are prepared to put up with poor to marginal performance. In VR, those two markets overlap If DCS wishes to grow, it needs to be accessible to people who have average gaming PCs. The barriers are already high in hardware costs when you look at monitors, joysticks, pedals. To add a requirement for a MONSTER gaming PC does _not_ help the future of DCS no matter how much the current user base likes to imagine themselves elite because they have £5k invested in hardware which still doesn't run great. IF I were running ED I'd charge $50 for a six month openbeta early access multithread/vulkan package. It's PEANUTS to people who boast of buying a 3090Ti/4090/12900k and a top end HMD. Everyone who cares about DCS would buy it if they could afford it and wait if they can't. Call it a tax on poor impulse control. I bet there are people reading this who have spent more on their mousemat. Let alone their mouse. After six months, the early access folds (with lots of test data/revisions) and is available to everyone. BUT I'd charge $30 a year for a DCS license which could then be invested back into the core features of the game. Face it: the current business plan of paying for modules only is broken - which is why we're in such a mess. If you hate the idea of paying $80 in one year to access software you already own, think of the performance increase and compare that with the cost of buying a latest gen GPU/CPU or even a motherboard. If you can get another year out of your Gaming PC - and even improve performance with what you've got - then it's a bargain. The only downside is you won't have a reason to "Justify" splooging a normal person's mortgage payment on a piece of shiny hardware which will be obsolete in 24 months.
  15. So would a Spit XIV, just saying
  16. Yes please! I realise it has no real role with the current ecosystem of DCS but you've got to start somewhere. I hope it wouldn't be too hard to add some night flying German bombers to intercept over the Channel. I realise that flying with a night-bomber stream and defending them against ME110 and JU-88 NF is some way off...
  17. An absolute classic aircraft. Imagine putting this up against Mig 15, F-86. Watch this and tell me you don't want to fly a Hunter!
  18. Going from an Index to a G2 would be a significant upgrade in clarity. Granted the FoV is smaller but that just exacerbates the difference in resolution.
  19. Ahh, OK - thanks! I'll have a google for that
  20. I honestly can't imagine running any more pixels than the G2 until 1. Multithread - CPU frame time is right on the squeaky limit already 2. Vulkan - because once CPU frame time comes down, the pressure goes back on the GPU and DX11 is.... ancient and predates VR. 2. Something with similar rasterisation scores to the 4090 arrives for ~£750 In other words, I don't see my G2 as the limitation of my VR experience right now.
  21. VR is a quick simple fix for that. Cheap too! (this answer may contain traces of Lie)
  22. BTW, I'm told the Mosquito Throttle is very close to release I've now built the Spitfire throttle and trim wheels, and I'm chasing some self-inflicted wiring issues on the trim wheels but the throttle quadrant is in use. This kit is also very high quality. The throttle quadrant will need some wearing in but it feels great under the hand. Is it OK to publish discord links here? I guess I'll find out.. https://discord.gg/prjEyUmE AuthentiKit discord
  23. Hi, could someone tell if/how I can use FPSVR in OpenXR? I'm assuming (!) that it requires SteamVR to run, if not - then I don't see how to switch it on! I've swapped to OpenXR and subjectively I think it's a nice improvement but I would like to be able to tune settings like I did with SteamVR/FPSVR. thanks! Specs if it matters: 9700K/32Gb 3200/3080 10Gb/Reverb G2 Still running W10 for now.
  24. I have used Trinus VR to make a Samsung Gear work with Steam VR. It worked, within the limitations of that headset, but it was definitely a third party experience.
