  1. Everyone should try VR if they can. If you don't like it, or can't get on with it then at least you've saved yourself a pile of cash. To do DCS VR properly needs top end EVERYTHING. Let's hope that the new DCS Engine brings meaningful performance upgrades in VR because right now it's marginal - even with my 3080. Don't get me wrong, it's amazing. The sense of being there, of looking out over the wing in 3D and seeing the world swish past is just fantastic. I can read all the gauges, I can spot aircraft far away. I often find it easier to look into weird nooks and crannies in the cockpit in VR than I ever did with head tracking BUT I'm not aware of anyone who is satisfied with the FPS at the high detail levels you need to make it look that good. I'm lucky, I can stand low FPS in VR even down to the low 30s but some people can't and they're unlikely to enjoy extended periods watching the DCS Engine chug away. For contrast, I can run Half Life Alyx at high everything and it's stunning. I can run DCS in flatland 4k no sweat.. but DCS in VR is a monster. Of course, it's not just the PC itself. You'll want everything else. Pedals? pfft, need you ask? You'll definitely need a high end HOTAS to map all the controls. You'll find yourself realising that the next time you have a spare £200 you'll probably spend it on extra Warthog grips so you can get to match the VR cockpit with what you can feel in the 18 and the Tomcat. You might find yourself buying a 3D printer so you can print out the Authentikit warbird controls for the same reason. I know I have. The printer is on order right now... IF you have the system, IF you can live with the performance in DCS then VR flight is just the best Gaming Experience I've ever enjoyed. But If you can bring yourself to fly DCS without VR and you're still happy with the old school, 2D, limited version of DCS then you may just be a very lucky person. Maybe.
  2. Same Issue here still. If I jump between A10C2 - F14B - F16C (or any sequence of them) I end up with vomit inducing lag. I just quit the server when I change planes now. It's quicker than waiting for it to sort itself out (which it used to do in previous versions after a couple of minutes). CPU 9700K, GPU 3080, Reverb G2, RAM 32Gb 3200Mhz, SSD Samsung 980Pro 1Tb (dedicated to DCS)
  3. DLSS Support Multicore/Vulkan rollout Better VR optimisation (leveraging the two previous points) Credible AI Bug fixes Thank you and Happy New Year!
  4. Yep, they're pretty much a suicide weapon with the current state of AI gunners. Even if you launch at 700m and turn there's still a decent chance you'll get head-shotted by an 88mm! But they're fun when used against targets who don't shoot back.
  5. Don't feel bad, I did exactly the same!
  6. Also the A-10C backup artificial horizon (can't remember the proper name) after aircraft repair. It's always cockeyed at about 30 degress of bank.
  7. Yes, it was more of a pure monocoque than a/c that had many ribs, stringers, bulkheads etc inside the stressed skin.
  8. Are we overthinking this a bit? Shirley the correct way to go is to map to the real radio mic switches in the aircraft? If you want extra freqs/channels over and above those provided in the cockpit, isn't that just Discord?
  9. I do experience this issue, but I don't fly any of those aircraft (Although I do own the F-16C). My most commonly used modules are the A-10C II and Mosquito, with some time in the Spitfire IX. The frame rate drop in VR is very marked and although it does sometimes resolve, it's usually quick to reboot/restart. MP only for me (so far) but it can happen even when I'm the only player on the server. I also use the Reverb G2. quick specs: 9700k (not OC), 32Gb RAM (3200), DCS installed on 1Tb Samsung 980 pro, OS on another 980PRo (both SSD are only running on PCIE 3.0) EVGA 3080 (base model, non OC)
  10. Suprised me! I knew it would be thicker than Alloy skins but 2.5cm is quite chunky. Super long link to ETSY sale of Mosquito bits It's not me selling, no commercial interest etc etc.
  11. Fair enough. I haven't been gunned by AI in a jet for a while!
  12. I realise this isn't a Spitfire but I'm having some trouble sustaining turns. Gentle banking turns are nice but if I give any backwards pressure on the stick during a turn I find it very easy to enter a horrible lurching PIO that often ends up in a 3000fpm sideslip. I do need to resist the urge to get hamfisted on the controls but apart from all that - what are the basics for getting a decent turn? Is it rudder INTO the turn and then neutral? or rudder into the turn and then a little top rudder pedal? I sometimes manage to exit the turn and roll back level without any yaw, sometimes the nose does slide around the horizontal before I get the ball (or needle) centred again. Yes, I'm a bad pilot (and the A10c flatters me!) but can anyone point out any tips for smooth combat manouvres? thanks
  13. WW2 AI can still aim/shoot through clouds as is they're not there. Don't try to escape in clouds because you'll still die even if you can't see your own wingtip.
  14. I think full rpm gives top speed in any part of the envelope as long as you have enough boost.
  15. I'm really hoping for the VR improvements that are listed. Pretty please? with cheese and peas?
  16. Even a 3080 won't max out a G2. I'm thinking of it as good news, because my HMD is good for another generation. Glass half full, and all that.
  17. Are we in Q4 yet?
  18. Did the Mosquito have 150 Octane for chasing V1s as well?
  19. grafspee, that's a very smooth takeoff run and lift-off Nice job! If I may be so bold, for a heavy TO your initial climb was quite steep and you throttled back well before Vmc. I stay lower until 200mph and I do find that the more rapid acceleration can help reduce the smoking/steaming engine effect.
  20. Nope it hasn't From what I've read the canopy jettison was used to escape after a forced landing where the door might be obstructed. My guess is that using it to bail out might lead to a nasty tail-strike by the crew - although whether that is preferable to the prop-strike option I guess is up for debate
  21. Has anyone else noticed the Artificial Horizon can sometimes drift so you end up flying one wing down? Is it just me? or is it correctly modelling the response to my "firm" landings?
