The customer is always right, unless he is wrong. The F-14 will be “fully functional upon release”, which is a damn good reason to get it. Now, if you don’t want to buy on release because the F/A-18 doesn’t fully work yet (because it’s still in “Alpha” (or Beta, whatever...it did say it’s not 100% yet) that’s always your choice...but it seems like the Red Dawn quote, “If a fox has killed some of your chickens, would you kill some of your sheep because they saw the fox?” No! You’d find the fox, hunt it down and kill it. Some aircraft still have bugs after 2-3 years in Release... that could be a legit reason to boycott the 3rd party dev which isn’t fixing them, but not the whole damn game. My $0.02

I got a set from them for the SU-25, it’s “ok” as a representation of the cockpit but it’s not kosher with the DCS cockpit. Most of the panels (remember, SU-25) are in Russian, but there are panels and some switches in English. I printed them full-size on poster stock (about $75 for front and both sides, iirc) just to use them as decorations until I made the panels that I actually needed for the -25 (weapons, landing gear+ lights, etc). You could use them as decorative illustrations, but they’re not quite proper size...there are threads here that give dimensions for width, Dzus fasteners, etc.

Gender was discussed about a year ago, it’s not going to happen because frankly, you can’t tell male from female when they’re decked out in g-suits, vests, hoses, etc. About the same time there was a discussion about having African/Negro skin tones for Angolan (?) pilots...iirc someone was going to look into developing a mod for that. I’d suggest a search in “wish list”, you could focus on 6-18 months ago.

My experience was a bit different than yours: I found the F5 easier than the L39...differential braking is still a weak skill for me. I also tend to lose control during tight turns very easy with the 39...after a couple weeks of crashing on landings I jumped ship and went to the F5. The L39 itself is very good, but I’m thinking my reflexes are a bit on the slow side. The F5 is super easy to fly—startup, taxi, takeoff, manuevers, weapons employment, and landings—all superb.

Flying F5 in Free Flight, landed at Nellis and parked under floodlight...aircraft was still dark as if light wasn't on.

Let’s try not to be “holier than thou”...a sim, a game...there’s no difference in a person’s life. A real military pilot could tell all kinds of stories to enthralled audiences till the day he dies... if we tried to tell a story from a flight sim/game, nobody would give a sh!t, because it’s not real. It’s entertainment. If someone is entertained by hovering a mouse and clicking buttons, that’s fine. If someone is entertained by keyboard combinations, that’s fine. If someone doesn’t like seeing text during a routine event, that’s fine too. It’s all good entertainment. Have fun with it.

Let’s see...there was a phrase...hmmm...it’s been around forever... Oh yes! Now I remember! ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILES. In a location that is physically separate from the drive(s) on the computer.

What should be fixed asap to make DCS a whole ?
VZ_342 replied to BitMaster's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Obviously, "general gamebreakers" first, since nothing else qualifies as "a whole (game)". Anything that causes a CTD should be the high priority (if it can be duplicated by ED/3rd party). Using that same thought process, a programming glitch that's just a glitch should be low priority, but a problem that (for example) prevents one from finishing a campaign or mission should be higher priority. Performance issues should be whatever does the greatest good for the most players..."most players" don't have a super-high end $5,000 gaming computer, and with that in mind could benefit from a goal of moderate mid-game performance tweaking. just my 0.02 -
Heavy Skies mission 5 stupid unrealistic immpossible

In the video the Phx is launched outside the AMRAAMs range...during notching of the Phx the F14 continues to get closer and closer, eventually it gets inside the AMRAAMs range, it’s then a simple procedure to turn in, lock on, and fire it off...then resume notching. The F14 should always be close to ones 3 or 9 o’clock, it’ll never be directly behind you. -
Any chance of a proper modern Russian fighter DCS ?
VZ_342 replied to pawea's topic in DCS Core Wish List
As I understand it, modern Russian fighters are a no-go due to state security concerns (if I may put it so bluntly). OTOH, the US apparently has no significant qualms about putting our newest and bestest out there for just anyone to see, fly, and get advanced online training. But what do I know? (And when did I know it? LOL) -
What altitude does this occur?

Thank you thank you! Just mapped basic kneeboard functions to hat switch with RCtrl modifier (hat is Trim when by itself, my other "shared hat" function, Schkval/targeting cursor, is LCtrl+hat...to make it easy to remember). Test flown and checked ease of use and etc...Now I can use the kneeboard! :) RC+Button 2 = On/Off RC+Down = Drop a marker (D is Down, or Drop) RC+L = Prev Page (Reach for the left side of a book to turn back) RC+R = Next page (To the right to go to next page)

It’s easy to be aware of one’s position if one has a map. There are very few who “just know” where they are based on dead-reckoning...especially if something happened which distracted one from the reckoning process. You know, like incoming flak or somesuch. ;) If there’s a map already opened to the basic area, the pilot just has to glance around at any nearby rivers, mountains, towns snd in the space of a minute or less can figure out where he is. And mark it for future reference. Ymmv, fyi, toodles.

<3 that Czech Shark skin...more than just teeth and eyes, the whole underbelly is shark, even has gills!
-
I’m sure some pilots in the past flew with a map on their knee, and a grease pencil wedged between their fingers...if it’s stupid but it works, it ain’t stupid.
-
Which folder is that in...? :P Btw, I never knew all the things one could do with the kneeboard until just now. I could turn it on and off, momentarily and UFN, but didn’t even know how to turn the page. Now by combining a modifier I can use the hat on the joystick to actually use (and thus learn) the kneeboard functions! Thanks!

Heavy Skies mission 5 stupid unrealistic immpossible
VZ_342 replied to pawea's topic in Su-33 for DCS World
Ah yes, the “hey-diddle-diddle, straight up the middle” full frontal attack...doesn’t always work. Phoenix uses doppler radar, fly perpendicular to them and they should be easier to defeat. Takes time, too bad AI is little better than cannon fodder. -
L-39C Mission: The International Bounce-off Water Event

And the crowd goes wild!!! Sounds like a really fun flight...my L39 skills are a bit rusty, but what the hell! YOLO -
Very funny! Kinda ticked me off in the comments, this video’s been pulled before for “copyright violations”. It is HUMOR (satire) and should be protected but YT knuckles under corporate lawyers like a bitch.

Fixt! Found the options.LUA document in c:users/username/saved games/DCS/config folder, opened options.LUA with Notepad++, did a CTRL + F search for GUI, changed "TRUE" to "FALSE" and saved it. Hey presto, I can fly again!

It's true! I checked "Scale GUI" during a "let's see what this setting does" and within 2 minutes the display was about 9x bigger than my triple monitor setup! I can't navigate back to the check box to uncheck it, nor can I exit the game except by ctrl+alt+del... How do I fix this?

Well done!
