    Holy Cow!

    Mooooooo....
  3. SU-25T So, what I’ve decided to do is open up an OEM skin in Paint, add a new layer and with great patience, duplicate the individual rivets, panel lines, and other details which would be completely covered if I were to do a new livery. I save often, and use the “reverse selection horizontally” function as appropriate. So far it’s coming along nicely. It took me about 6+ hours to do the image with wings, which seems to be the one with most details given its large area. I save the layer as its own image, so it can be used over and over. (When you save the layered image as a .dds, it combines all layers into one.)

    Holy Cow!

    Next Cow update will be...
  5. Sometimes the mods are published “ready for JSGME or OVGME” and include the entire path of folders. For example, the unzipped file may have a folder “tree” dcs/core mods/liveries/FA-18C_Hornet/VMA-101. Your working skins are in dcs/users/your name/saved games/user name/.../FA-18C_Hornet/. Within the FA-18C_Hornet folder, there should be folders named after the skins inside, i.e., VMA-100, VMA-125, etc. Within those folders is a description and possibly actual skin files. What you want to do is move only the “VMA-101” folder to the “saved games...dcsopenbeta/liveries/FA-18C_Hornet/” folder. HTH
  6. “Beginner aircraft” and “F/A-18”...Happy flying!
  7. I have 1.5.8, Open Beta and Release...Release is still a problem for me, but after a couple months (from release of Release) for some reason Open Beta started working properly. I still spend most of my flying time on 1.5.8 just because I have no worries about lockups, stutters etc. I’m just a bit scarred from my initial attempts at flying Open Beta even though it’s currently working right. All that being said...technology moves on, eventually everyone has to upgrade their system.
  8. That is a beautiful skin!
  9. Looks like I’ll need a “latching relay” circuit, and will need a separate push button momentary switch to turn off the warning light relay. I’ll just place the “reset light” button next to the light itself.
  10. Actually, the hifi aircraft I have don’t technically require mousing the switches or complicated procedures...the F5 for example can be cold started with LShift+home. The radar, guns, landing gear etc can all be done with the keyboard. You’re right though, the hifi ones definitely take some skill. But then again, isn’t there a “game” mode?
  11. I’m in the process of making a generic cockpit and need an idea on how to make a real-world “Nose Wheel Steering On” caution light that will stay on as long as the NWS system is activated. Currently the NWS system is activated (SU-27) by pressing LtAlt + q, which is a “press once, it’s on, press again it’s off” operation. The momentary push button I’m using energizes a DPDT micro-relay (5v) briefly and it’s easy to simply add a second relay to activate the light...but the light will go off as soon as I release the button. My knowledge of solid-state devices is minimal, so if anyone has an idea how to keep the light on after activating (without using a separate switch, although that’s a possibility also) please keep instructions in simple and clear terms. Thanks!
  12. The Scooter has been heavily upgraded since the '70's...it's currently used as a hypersonic sub-orbital satellite taker-outer. But that's classified. Now that's odd...who could be knocking at my door at this hour?

    Bourbon...

  15. Very nice! I like!
  16. I’m not a programmer, but would it be possible for DCS to separate a large battlefield* into, say, 6 (2x3) or 9 (3x3) squares** (“local zones”)? Each zone would be hosted by one computer, which would handle all computations within that zone. These zones would be touching each other, so if a unit crossed into an adjacent zone it would be transferred to that particular host. I could imagine a small bubble-area (a”mini-zone”) which would contain all units close to each other, to prevent blinking out of existence due to immediate transfer to the other host. *Something appropriate for battalion-sized forces + 200 miles one-way aircraft travel. **If a Battalion combat radius is 200 miles, each square of a 3x3 mini-zone grid would be approximately 133 miles per side.
  17. Fully rendered player controlled motorcycle, for those days you want to chase a plane taking off...
  18. That's a cleverly disguised submarine...
  19. I’ll be on 1.5 until I can afford a complete upgrade...when I do single player on 2.1 (open beta) or 2.5 (release version)I get 10-30 fps and frequent lockups. 1.5 has zero issues and graphics are acceptable.
  20. Semi-permanent would be to "clear" any shortcut...otherwise just make it more tricky to activate, like "Left Control + Number Pad 9".
  21. "Control + F" ("Find") is usually faster. It can use single letters all the way to complete sentences (and maybe more, but I haven't had to try more than one sentence).
  22. They always show up in August here in the Seattle area. They do their thing over Lake Washington and put on a good show! (Personally, I prefer the Thunderbirds, but that's just because I was in the AF ;) That, and they fly F-16s! )
  23. How do you step outside?
  24. RAM is less expensive than an entire system upgrade *cough*DCS 2.5*cough*
