  1. Been a few days now, haven’t seen a thread about it yet (maybe in the French forums?)...looking grim now. https://theaviationist.com/2019/01/09/french-mirage-2000d-missing-in-alps-presumed-crashed-search-underway/ Article says “debris may have been found.” :(
  2. Now, if we could get 416 Red Air Enthusiasts to each cough up $10,000.... MiG-29
  3. Quickie Google came up with: MiG-23 page My phone browser isn’t especially good at picking apart a debated point, but it seems the MiG-23 just barely is in the “competitive” range for any US fighter since the F-4.
  4. Crash Laobi? Hooray! For the One-Minute tutorials!
  5. Recommend fast forward to 0;35.... What is it like to Pull 43 G's and 83 G's - History Channel
  6. Love the 2 minutes or so I’ve seen! Always interested in The Great War, I still use “Armistice Day” for 11 Nov to remind others of the War to End All Wars! Just wish I could see it here in the States...last I checked it was only going to be released Over There.
  7. Taxi+first takeoff = 5:30 Prior to that is intro, description, assign controls
  8. Wow, and here I thought discrimination went away in the ‘70s...nope, still alive and well. “Oh look! An aerobatic plane! Well, there goes the neighborhood!”
  9. At the top of each thread, there is a panel of links under the numbered page links. One of the links is matked “search this thread”. Should work well, I’m guessing.
  10. In the -1, after all the dive angles, airspeeds, depression angles etc, it is written: “Use the Force, Luke”
  11. Video and F-14 is crazy good...Only thing that caught my ear was a couple of times Jester’s voice tone/inflection didn’t match the circumstances: First of the MiGs got shot down quickly and Jester said “Mig is down” (iirc) with almost a sigh, like it had been a long drawn-out yet close battle. I know they recorded 12,004,672 different inflections of the same sayings, so there’s bound to be some mismatched combos.
  12. For your consideration: https://www.sciplus.com/us-navy-mark-8-mod-8-ladder-reticle-lens-100-mils-range-gunsight-1940s-63451-p (I'm not affiliated with them) related sight, hobbyists who rebuild sights: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117376 Just some gee-whiz items I found.
  13. Resembles those “charcoal snake” fireworks on the 4th... Fascinating!
  14. +1
  15. I use a dremel “drill press” with a 0.6 mm rotary bit. After printing the list of words (double-spaced) and cutting them out, I use rubber cement to secure ONE in proper position + alignment. With one hand I lower the press to almost contact, with the other hand I manuever the light panel *carefully*, making about 3 passes per letter. After doing each word, I peel off the remains of the paper and wash off the rubber cement. Dry, check for proper light penetration and then go to the next word. It’s not always laser-perfect, but it works for me.
  16. Well, a quick Google produced the manufacturer of missile-hanging technology, and they say the F5 is only certified for two AIM 9s. So I reluctantly withdraw my request. ...furiously writing a letter to Santa....
  17. So ya’all are saying even though the F-5 can carry 500 lbs bombs on the wing pylons, the USAF never thought of hanging 115 lbs AIM-9 missile on it? Imho, it’s pretty foolish to dismiss Wikipedia “just because it’s Wikipedia.” Feel free to come up with legit counter-sources. For myself, I’m going to be buying the -1 flight manual to check out weapons loads re: AIM-9. I’m not seriously discussing the Sparrow or the AMRAAMs.
  18. *holds pylon like it’s a bowl* According to the (actual) Wikipedia article, the F-5 can carry up to 4 missiles: It’d really improve the F-5 in AA. And, I’m sure it would be easy™ to do. :smilewink: Please, and thank you.
  19. Something like this? That’d be awesome! Somebody figured it out...
  20. 4:35...sinister!
  21. OMG the graphics...! What’s the specs, “Gawd Mode ++”?
  22. Interesting to read about the process of deciding what aircraft to buy...do you mean it’s put out for a vote by the public?
  23. I’ve heeeeard that....each Phoenix, when fired in anger, will seek out and destroy the nearest three fighter jets, and then start chasing kittens for sport! Dogs will howl, cows will attempt to jump over it as it passes, madness will prevail!
  24. Where did you read this?
