  1. Would a few star wipes make it look a bit more professional? :D
  2. I would suggest watching the producer notes if you haven't, I found them more helpful than the training tracks. I still standby my opinion that spending that "learning" time flying the shark (no combat, just flight) will help you more in the long run. Coaxial rotor for one thing gives it a unique flight characteristic vs other choppers where you're dealing CONSTANTLY with torque with every move of the a control surface. The trim is tricky for some, but the helicopter is flyable without using it. I rarely use it personally unless i've got a long flight ahead. The other sims mentioned are good if you want to screw around in different helicopters, but they may make eventually learning the shark a bit tougher. Best of luck in your ventures though mate :).
  3. I would most likely prefer to have my wingman or be as a wingman in line position. Looks a little tight for two choppers in this formation ;). Those rotar blades are probably 6 inches apart. :pilotfly:
  4. I would forego any other helicopter sim and spend that time learning the shark. other sims will teach you bad habbits ;). I don't think there are any other sims outside fsx and xplane payware.
  5. It's not the best way, but on a first pass I'll get in nice and close to see what they throw up at me. I say pretty high so I can keep lots of room to maneuver. When something is thrown up at me I'll note where in the convoy the fire is coming from and extend to bring down my AGM's. That is if I can't identify the targets visually. Although with the update, the increased monitor rez has really helped with visual identification. :)
  6. Both would be ideal, if you have the cash, you'll probably never play another sim for a long time (until a10C comes out). Lots to keep you busy with 8 airframes and multiple combat roles. :)
  7. I like the sound delay, if I heard that sound of the mav firing in real time I would think it was weird. I would just cut to closeup of the mav flame bursting to keep the sound in real time to satisfy the "hollywood types" hehe. Then cut back to a long shot as the missile trails away. Obviously it's one shot and it's by no means a complaint...you'd probably never see a long shot like that for an action sequence in a hollywood movie. Hollywood would have like 16 cuts in there ;). As always GA, great work!
  8. Fsx apart from maybe dodoo sims's bell jet really don't replicate helicopter flight very well. Xplane is much better, but still nowhere near as authentic as dcs. The dual rotors also help with stability in the ka50, no tail rotor means relatively balanced torque forces. Single rotor choppers you have to counter the torque with every adjustment of the collective. Hovering technically isn't really traditional flight, it's a skill that takes lots of practice to get down, hours and hours at least. When you're over a certain forward speed your into transitional lift and the helicopter begins to fly so it feels a bit more familiar. Choppers are definitly more difficult to fly, so a lot of practice should help. :)
  9. I don't mind it as a feature, I would optionally turn it off though just because I don't like reading vectors or what not from AWACS...listen so my eyes can be on systems. BUT...I actually don't care enough to REALLY care...this is the internet and I feel my opinions matters for some reason?...why is that I wonder. EDIT: Although online with a chat window traffic it can be hard to read what the awacs or control tower are saying.
  10. This just isn't going to work for me...man I tried 7 times with 2 new downloads...and an entire Saturday trying to get this to work. I'm at a loss.:mad::mad: EDIT: SimHQ seems to have people with this same issue, so at least it's not just me...poor tarts we are.
  11. I'm still having problems. Vanilla install as per instructions, open up BS to make sure it runs...confirm. Next step is install Patch file 1.0.2; double clicking on the installer initiates a hang on the system and I have to control alt del out of the not responding setup. I then try to click on Black Shark single player and it gives me a "browsing" icon as it cannot find the launcher.exe. Where is it located in the Black Shark folder? I can't seem to manually find it. Anyway I've been stuck with this all day and I'm getting a little tired of wasting my time with installs/uninstalls/installs/uninstalls. Anybody having a similar probleM? I must be doing something wrong, but I can't seem to figure it out. EDIT: I'm in XP I wish I had the appdata as a possible solution....my wife is glaring at me and I'm obsessive about things not working needing to fix them. Black Shark not on my system is BOTHERING ME lol. I've even re-downloaded the game + patch....on my 7th install now (i had a 1C folder with BLACK SHARK) I seemed to have missed. EDIT 2: Okay a few guys over on SIMHQ forums had a similar problem to mine, so if you're having this problem...this is how to fix it...and it's VERY hard. SIMPLY WAIT IT OUT....the patch setup program will seem as if it's hung, but just leave it alone and eventually it will give you indication it's alive. Task manager will lie and say the program is not responding...but it is...so hang in there. If you CNT AL DELETE out of it thinking it's "not responding" it will delete your launcher and render your BLACK SHARK 1.0 inoperable. Will be online tonight :) ... finally! :)
  12. I've tried for the last 3 hours to install this properly and still no joy. Finally completely removed everything DCS BLACK SHARK related and did a fresh install. Everything seemed to work and now when I try to load BS 1.0.2 I get the ERROR: something about winman.lua or some crap >:T any ideas?
  13. That's exactly how the ONE military sim I had a chance to try out looked like. SUPER high FPS counts and total immersion...you're not even looking at the less "detailed" graphic elements.
  14. Realism may be lacking in flight model, but having support fighters and strikers on your side will definitely help with immersion factor (from the KA and the fixed wingers) and I think that's what it's really about. If you hesitate to play online because you're worried about the other players experience I think you'll be missing out. Ultimately it's your choice, but I think if you give it a chance you'll have some FUN!
  15. I am having issues configuring my X52 joystick for FF5. Seems to not want to stay centered and constantly drifting to the right. Tried a number of configs as well. Anybody have a profile I could use?
  16. Nvidia 9600GTM... Upgraded the latest drivers. I tried FF5.3 before updated drivers but it was even more effed up than AF. I should also add I'm in XP no Vista oR 7
  17. I have to say this is my first FF5 experience and I'm really happy with the final version! I played AF a bit, but was hindered graphically by the NVIDIA problems so I couldn't choose my ORD I had a hard time configuring my hotas because of screen glitches. This one is crisp and clean and I can read/view everything to it's highest fidelity NO problems! Well done to the team! Now to start the MEGA process of learning (pretty much from square one)...I should be ready to fly online in a few years or so ;).
  18. I changed my nvidia settings in control panel to "performance over quality" (slid the bar full left) that seemed to fix the nvidia black scren of death. That was for AF, not sure how ff5 will work, will download it when I get home. Anybody play it yet? Impressions?
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owVGW_RRtAA New gameplay video (work in progress) posted over at http://www.simhq.com :)
  20. Dumb question; but will FF5 install with an installation of Falcon AF? I don't have original Falcon and would like to give FF5 a try but want to make sure I have the correct setup. Thanks guys! :) slaps head...sorry found it * You should install F4.0 or AF before you install FF5 found it in one of the links provided.

It's pretty much wall to wall radio chatter........to wall
  23. Do you fly FSX at all? I'm curious to know how the I7 2.8GHz runs FSX by chance.
  24. +1 It will be awesome having you fighter boys looking out for us ;)
  25. I don't think it can even be argued that ROF is the best WWI flight sim on the market HANDS DOWN. But BLACK SHARK is the best helicopter simulation on the market HANDS down in it's own right. LO/FC has some competition with FALCON so that's a little more debatable...but why are we even comparing WWI aviation to helicopter/jet fighter combat? You can't even compare WWII to WWI. They're modeling totally different aspects and technology of a plane/balistics etc/avionics (or lack thereof). If you read the blue prints of a KA-50 BLACK SHARK vs a SOPWITH or ALBATROSS you'd see a clear difference in engineering complexity. So if I'm a WW1 aviation nut (there are LOTS of them by the way) then I'll most likely choose ROF over LO or BS...but I personally am not a huge fan of WWI air combat (much respect to it, but from a sim point a little dry for me). It doesn't really have anything to do with "realism" or whatever and more on personal preference.
