I second the VKB bases. You have various cam and spring options so you can make it a much lighter action. Unfortunately, the TM bases are neither smooth nor light, and even if you put in the work to mod them they will still be inferior to the VKB (and presumably Virpil) bases.

It's always illuminating to hear from someone with RL experience to correct the bad habits we learn in sims. Not that I'm entirely convinced I'll always be a good boy :)

When I really need to bleed speed I also like to throw her into a skidding turn with a lot of rudder input. Works a treat on the Mi-8 too, but you have to be careful what you wish for.

Regreasing the WH also helps, and polishing the plastic to remove seams and rough spots. Ultimately, for me, the answer was getting a VKB base to throw my WH grip onto, but of course that's more $$, but for me it was worth it.

It's a little thing, but there is no need for an occupy pilot seat bind in the pilot commands, or an occupy RIO seat in the RIO commands.

As was mentioned in another tab, it seems if you inadvertently pull the emergency landing gear release, it stops nws from working. I know I've had that a couple of times when trying to extend the fuel probe for startup checklist.

Yeah, I think I had the same with the emergency extension KO'ing NWS.

I'm still learning the cold start procedure, and in the training mission the instructor tells you to ask Jester to start the alignment, and then to ask Jester to do a fine alignment. After requesting the INS alignment, I see no option on the wheel to request a fine alignment. What could I be doing wrong, or what should I be seeing?

Is it just me or is there no binding to make the wheel disappear if you inadvertently select it, or otherwise don't want to make a selection? It seems this would be helpful, instead of having to proceed through the wheel options and find a greyed out direction.

I'm trying to remember clearly, it's possible there's a little rock and roll on the frigates, but I have never noticed the deck sliding that the planes could get when taxiing. Of course, the Huey flies to taxi anyways, not sure if the Ka-50 or Mi-8 ever had a problem taxiing true. I'll check it tomorrow.

Yeah, they only posted the F-14 to the openbeta. If you want, you can download the openbeta and install it without conflicting with the Stable version, until the F-14 is posted to that, although of course you'll need the disk space.

Also, interestingly, you can get translational lift transition buffeting in the helos when you are stationary on deck, even with the ship's upper structure in front of you theoretically blocking the wind. All the little things that are hard to model....

There is no reason why you can't use a WH throttle with a VKB stick. I am currently using a WH grip mounted on a VKB gunfighter base, with a WH throttle, for instance. The WH throttle is generally very good, with the exception of the slew control which is universally despised.
