**whole thread comes screeching to a halt**.....what did you say? lol
-
:megalol::megalol::megalol: that is no joke!
-
Dang! that sucks, you might want to wait it out and at least get your download going!

I don't believe there is a product key. New way of doing it, harrier was the first one. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's how all things are now.
-
I was thinking the hog as well. Might need some speed for the first couple sight-seeing flights though. Defiantly plan to run some helos through those cities as well!

Well, good news... Wags mentioned in a recent live stream the weather will be on the list to improve. He mentioned things such as cloud shapes, dynamic weather, dust and sandstorms. Wouldn't expect it until later this year at earliest, but better than nothing! I suggest watching the stream if you haven't seen it (F-18 video thread) as the second half is a pretty good Q&A. More weather related things that I didn't mention.
-
I'm sure he explains this in the video, but I don't speak French. It looked like he just got it in the ball park and the plane slid into place from there. Is this more or less correct?

I'll start beating the improved weather drum as soon as AI stops acting like a space shuttle in the vertical. Yes, weather is very much "core" of a flight sim, however, it's competing for time with other things that are also "core" issues (ATC, AI, Lighting). Like I said before in this thread, I hope I'm wrong. It would be awesome to get a weather update, but realistically other things are in worse shape than weather right now.

Very unique theater! Looks like we'll need some UK and AR aircraft to fly!

I was thinking the same thing, but like you said, it didn't seem to be a big deal. I wonder how far north they were. I'm sure they trust the pilots but I mean... you can't really control ricochets? idk...very very cool video though.

I imagine there will be an update to accompany the PG map release this coming Wed. Skipping a week before a major release suggests ( to me at least) that any patches ready to go will be packaged in with the overall map update. I would also bet that any patch coming during this time-frame would have to be checked for compatibility with the new map. In other words they wouldn't have wanted to patch last week only to find out they have to re-patch in the coming week because of conflicts with the new map.

Simply knowing the release date now will make this much easier, even if it is a little further away than some would have hoped. Honestly we really only have to wait till Wednesday to get some satisfaction. The Persian Gulf map should be more than enough to tide you over for the remaining week until the Hornet. This is if you got the map. If not then 1 1/2 weeks. Re-read the Hornet NATOPS or something haha.

We would have known by now if it was tomorrow. Same time next week everyone? okay cool see ya then!

I'm beginning to think ED is really a secret gov agency experimenting with different torture techniques involving unknown, yet tantalizingly close release dates.
-
I feel like there would be an announcement at least a day prior to launch. I know ED isn't one for setting dates or announcing anything, but have they ever just released a module with no warning? (real question, idk if they have)

6-1=5... 5/18 Haha, I like this one better!

This!... imo the vast majority of the problems in DCS at the moment are caused by pushing the new tech and engine out premature, and we're really feeling the growing pains. Were they trying to appease those begging for 2.5 or "the merge" idk. There are certain things about the new engine and lighting that show great potential, but the bugs suggest it needed more time. We'll have to see what happens after the Hornet is out. It seems to me like ED has been on a mission to fulfill some past commitments. ie: NTTR, merging the two versions, and now the Hornet (originally announced in 2011 I believe) If they start fixing these bugs with the freed up resources from the Hornet team then I'll start feeling like were headed back in the right direction. Not exactly the order I would have prioritized things, but that's not my call.
-
This may have already been asked, forgive me if so. I've seen on shows talking about the Hornet that the FBW system can actually level out the aircraft in the case that the pilot blacks out from G's. Has anyone heard if this has been modeled, or if this is even the case in the block we're getting. Just a cool detail that I saw and was curious.

Yup!.. this thread turned out to be a prime example of how the "this is an alpha build" disclaimer gets completely ignored.

I just want everything with extra everything hand delivered to me yesterday... I don't understand what the big deal is?

The clouds could defiantly use some more work. They look good, they just need variety. I either get full blown overcast, or cotton balls dotting the whole sky. Layers? Bigger sizes and shapes? That being said, I'm sure they're working on it, or at least working on tech (vapor trails) that could be beneficial were they to revisit weather. IMO there's more important issues. The lighting you mentioned, while updated for SOH, is still a nagging issue on other maps, and especially in some cockpits. Really I don't see them "prettying up" stuff before they have 2.5 and it's modules in a truly stable and functional state. But hey, here's to me hopefully being wrong! For all I know there could be some poor fool coding away this whole time on some awesome weather update that will blow our minds! haha

Nice! The shape of this bird will make for some awesome skins no doubt. Will be a fun one to mess with!
-
has anyone heard news on when the Hornet's skin template could be released? This will be a fun bird to make liveries for, I'm sure there will be tons of user made skins.

I think the right way to go about this, if done at all, is make ambiguous maps... A map that could be a real place but isn't given a title, thus allowing different possibilities... Islands in the middle of the ocean, swaths of land that don't have identifiable landmarks... really the only difference between the maps we have and fictional maps is identifiable landmarks... things we expect to be there to make it said location... For example what keeps Nevada from being a decent middle east stand-in is the fact that we all know that is Vegas poking out of the desert... With all this said, I don't see ED making true to life modules to fly in made up places. From a mission making standpoint I see why you would want one, I just don't think that's how they roll
