F-14 Night Can't See The Carrier Well at All
EagleA25 replied to Rdash007's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
It's not a bug and it is pretty well simulated; CV's simply don't announce their position with Disco lights, not even in peace time. Read up on some posts to identify when CASE III procedures are in effect, this here is the best post I've seen so far: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=280143 Real life Naval Pilots almost all dread and hate coming back to a Carrier at night, and especially when the weather is bad. Medical supervision indicated that the heart rate of a pilot increases during combat operation, even in Life-or-death dog-fighting, but not even close to as much as on a night, bad weather trap on a carrier. To simplify: its hard and its dangerous. This is one of the reasons you have to jump through so many hoops to fly naval jets. Good luck! -
+1 on the IDS Version... By the way, what will we name the Weapon System Officer AI? Herman?

Hey Pilots, To tell a tale, I've been flying exclusively online the last three months and was wondering if anyone else realized that, coincidentally, over the last two weeks the quantity of players on public servers has dropped a lot, like, significantly. I don't mean just on PvP servers like any of the 4 Growling Sidewinders, but also on PvE like ThroughTheInfierno, which all historically were packed during certain time frames with kill hungry players on a weekends. And this with an amazing new map just launched into open Beta! (Ugra did an amazing job !) Without ANY intention to rock the boat, many of the guys are getting the sense that this might have a lot to do with the fact that MSFS2020 just came out and that the DCS community in itself becoming more and more displeased and perhaps even a little disappointed with ED's products. Microsoft stated it is very inclined to develop military elements of its product... I am very aware that the developments of those products take up a LOT of resources and require to remain sustainable. But perhaps its the fact that open beta modules have a history of remaining years incomplete in early access, perhaps its the patches that historically provoked even bigger problems, or perhaps its the slow development work on the Vulcan project, or even perhaps it is the lack of large scale dynamic map system like in Falcon 4/BMS, which would be an amazing asset to any virtual air wing, personally I do not know... ... perhaps it is simply time for Eagle Dynamics to take note that there is now a strong competition out there and your customers are leaving... Goodnight... and good luck... :( PS Angry Mike is nothing but a bully!

Great Aircraft models! Love flying this mean machine! But, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, with the new TGP updates come control features that kind of require the Air-to-Ground Radar (SnowPlow) Any news (besides the good 'ol "Two more weeks")? :music_whistling:

Was gonna say the same but you beat me to it..!

Carrier Operations Guide by Pieterras
EagleA25 replied to Lex Talionis's topic in DCS: Supercarrier Tutorials
Great Guide... Just to clarify, on page 58, CASE III, night ops time frame is set up to complete civil twilight rules? Also, why "last name" after Calling the ball (page 56 Right side below CQ)? Thanks again! -
Hey everyone Having flown in Syria, which is a huge AO, I’m wondering if China Lake and NAS Fallon could be incorporated now? It seems the 8GB limit is not a predominant worry anymore... I get the feeling around the comunity that purchasing the NTTR is a waste of money, but IMHO it is a great, but incomplete AO. I’m sure many of us would like to see that change!

Thanks Steinsch! Excellent Video!

I'd also love to see some more detail on how this option as it is developing...

Hello everyone, I am not sure if this was asked previously, but would it be possible to set up an option on how to enter DCS upon initialization? I fly with the Oculus Rift CV1 and upon initiating it immediately starts up in VR. But when I want to edit maps I prefer to do so in 2D, and the only way to avoid jumping into VR is by physically disconnecting the VR Cable from my GPU. There HAS to be a better way, right? If not, can ED consider an option upon startup? Thanks!

Flaps deploy when multiplayer RIO joins?
EagleA25 replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in Bugs and Problems
I had a wired event yesterday while flying online but without anyone joining the RIO seat. Using a slider on my HOTAS for the Flap Handle, in mid flight suddenly realized flap handle was down even though the slider was completely up... since the wings were swept back no damage resulted (lucky me!) -
You see, Quid, here is why I like you... I ask long, almost irrelevant, but straight questions, and you take the time to give me a longer, but very straight answer with great explanation... Thanks for the hint on TFP Podcast. I'll listen to that one today! Lets see if Heatblur could tweak the damage model a little bit for us :helpsmilie:

Well, besides damaging a simple torque tube and its mechanism, flying way above maximum slats and/or flaps speeds will eventually lead to flutter and essentially break the attachment points and detach them, that is unless unless that flutter actually takes the aircraft into a harmonic resonance... then, yes, it should break in half... Not sure what you mean, but I'd be happy to know if your contact is aware if this was a real thing in the Tomcat. I know it was a technique taught in the Navy Weapon Fighter School to F-4 Phantom crews...
-
Hi everyone... I got myself into some close and personal dogfights with the Tomcat and realized that people are dropping their flaps to augment maneuver stability. I also hear it’s become a common thing to do in SATAL and other competitions, but was that a normal thing in real life? Though it seems the right thing to do because handling characteristics improve exponentially, the use of Flaps and Slats while maneuvering aggressively brings a lot of limitations with it. Published in the F-14 NATOPS, Flap limits are published as the following: 4.2.1.2 - 225 KIAS Flap Limit Speed (Structual limitation) - After T/O retract Flaps/Slats before passing 180 KIAS 4.5.2 - Manuvering Flaps Extended maximum load factor 6.5G’s - Referencing Figure 4.5, with Flaps Extended maximum G Limit is 2.0 up to 50.000 lbs and reducing to 1.5G’s reaching 68.000 lbs. 4.5.5 - 4.) AIM-9 launch landing flaps and slats extended - PROHIBITED (I imagine the rocket motor will burn a hole in both as it leaves the rail which it doesn’t here!) - Abrupt manuvering with Flaps and Slats extended is also mentioned in various limitations as prohibited. So I went ahead and experimented with those limits and of course reaching 300-something the flap system fails and won’t retract anymore, but is that all? No secondary structual failure! You over-speed or/and over-G and the plane doesn’t break apart. Is this how to win SATAL?

As LordOrion says, Chuck's guides are a treasure full of resources... The F-5E is a Post-Korean War Cold-War Export Aircraft. It's Gun Sight is intentionally left in a "Basic" state (No one will export latest high-tech that can be reverse manufactured). As such, the operator (You) will need to learn how to apply basic balistic math problems associated with the very limited amount of armament available. But don't be alarmed, since we all just want to hop in and auto-start, there is always Youtube:  Now, if you are a very curious one, may I suggest reading the Flight Manual here: https://www.usaf-sig.org/index.php/references/downloads/category/52-f-5-tiger-ii-northrop Happy Bombing...

Those will be another US$ 3.99 each...

I'm extremely Thrilled, too... But I can almost almost feel my system taking a FPS dip... it is massive!
-
So, Cat’s out of the bag... Any estimated date for release? I for one am super psyched!

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but upon selecting Manual Mode, the Depress Setting can be set up and down, but the recicle does not Move up or down in the HUD. Also, i had Problems pickeling off MK 82 Snake Eyes while loaded on all stations or launching several different types of Zuni’s I used ripple, single bomb, nose, tail, both, all sorts of combinations, but no Snake Eye left its pylon...
-
Hey everyone Just curious if anyone is doing community Areas/Terrains?
-
Actually, I was reviewing the F-14B NATOPS Manual, and found out that under Chapter 4.1.5 the use of Anti-Skid is not even allowed... ! So, a double thanks!
