Trimming and getting to on speed for landing
G.J.S replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Currently at that annoying thing called work, so cannot view your track. Weight and speed chart for landing? Just fly the tone. Trust me. As mentioned, it basically rules the F-4. Landings - fly the tone. Best turn performance - fly the tone. It really is a good thing, you don’t need to put your head down to check anything, just use your ears. -
Trimming and getting to on speed for landing

Fly the tone. If you are at 19 units steady tone, you are at the right speed for landing, regardless of weight. That steady tone will govern a lot of what you do with the aircraft. -

On the main screen, where you have all your icons along the bottom - click on the one for your F-4, there will be a clicky where you can set the wallpaper. -
@LanceCriminal86 Have to say fella, your Saint Louis bird is sublime.

Is the moustache lying about its service? PMSL! It’s a “likeness”, nothing more. -
Haven’t got home from work yet to DL the bird, but from memory should be a toggle switch on the left wall a little aft of the throttle’s.
-
The extension was only used upon takeoff on a Cat stroke. Not for landing.

Good to know, the Cali ang bird has the roundel on the wrong wing.

The ‘Mad Max’ edition?? Lol

Late ‘70’s, wandering home from school along a relatively quiet back road that goes near to my then home. Lazy summer afternoon - thoughts drift to hopefully an ice cream when I get there, wonder what cartoons I could watch . . . . RROAARRRR!!! After extricating myself from a convenient roadside bush, I looked to the source of the now only loud noise that had assailed me. The shapely behind of a 2 ship of RN FG-1’s, and the faint tang of jet exhaust hung in the air. I was in awe - I was already “plane mad”, I was a fully paid up member of the EE ‘frightening’ fan club - I had seen Phantoms in pictures in the window of the local recruiting office, but now I had just been assaulted by a pair, and I was in love . I pulled the last remnants of twigs and thorns from my hair and school uniform, and ran home to draw pictures of them. Not two steps in from my front door my mothers face dropped . . . “What in gods name happened to you??, who beat you up??”. I had failed to notice that my trousers were ripped in such a way that basically the last 2 miles home were completed with my ar5e on show, and a fair amount of blood to highlight the spectacle. She refused to believe that an aircraft sneak attack was the cause, and I was grounded for a few days.

F-4E Phantom II Development Update and Release Delay Announcement
G.J.S replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Guys - come on. In a few weeks everyone is going to feel just a little bit silly after all the statements and jibes that seem to have been the norm lately. Everyone is just making a mountain out of a mole-hill.- 500 replies

Brilliant! -
As Corrigan has noted, it’s there and only REALLY visible when looking over your left shoulder and rolling to a point where the sun is more or less in-line to the rear. Doesn’t appear on Stbd wing - port only.
-
F-16 "Gamblers" skin (haven't checked others, but never noticed before), P.G. terrain. Port wing upper surface, see screenshot for location. The gap is not present on the Stbd wing. Very visible when rolling and backlit by the sun. Unsure if its a skin issue, or a model one? (Have had a brief check using words that are descriptive, but no hits. Apologies if a similar thread/problem DOES exist)

Join the Air Force! There you will have serious flashbacks to DCS as any new Aircraft type that hits the Squadrons is never "fully up", and is in early access for many, many years.

Beautiful. Just . . . Beautiful.

Haven’t been at the editor for a while, but pretty sure Distance = fore and aft of centreline of whatever it is following, negative values are behind, otherwise ahead. Interval = left or right of centreline of whatever it is following, again a negative value will be to starboard, otherwise to port. Elevation is self explanatory.

Depends what you are using the set for. At very very low altitudes then the beam “grazing angle” will be unreliable to adequately break out a ground return at ranges greater than maybe 5NM, for instance finding an offset. Weather should have not really a too great effect, but heavy weather of the monsoon type would certainly degrade however (non existent in DCS). Chaff, if used correctly by an adversary should do what chaff was designed to do. The F-4 is not a beast that you only have to hold on a leash lest it swipe all others from the sky. You as systems manager will have to find out how to get the best out of your aircraft, through proper management, proper placement (of your aircraft to maximise your weapon), proper understanding of your weapon limitations, and just a little cunning. Once you can utilise your aircraft well, you should be able to surprise even younger aircraft types.
