SUU-23 gun pod ammo count and casing ejection issues
G.J.S replied to Phenom2266's topic in Bugs & Problems
Had you selected the podded store? Not just firing the nose gun? -
Whinging wizzo. Would call your heritage into question, supply alternative career advice, colourful admonishment or just a very audible “sigh” through the intercom. Then came the aforementioned “bitchin’ betty”, and they would just tag team the pilot.

How fast are you travelling?

Nivron's last visit was in December of last year, so its doubtful to say the least unfortunately.

Either way, with that much square footage missing, that's one hell of a job setting the bird down!

Just imagine your nose - no matter where it’s pointing - is 360/0 degrees, your tail is 180. In your pic the priority threat is at approximately 300 degrees relative to your nose (therefore roughly 10 o’clock).

[Known issue] Head Motion in Mirror lagging in VR
G.J.S replied to Blackeye's topic in Bugs & Problems
Same with head trackers . . . Quite annoying. I Keep the mirrors off so it’s not distracting. -
The “High-G” tank is just an external tank from an F-15, it has higher stress limits than the Fletchers. *edit- Meant to add, the F-15 tank is only for centreline use on the F-4, not wing.

[Known isuue] Throttles Aren't Modeled Correctly...
G.J.S replied to mytai01's topic in Bugs & Problems
Correct. Throttles are pushed outboard and forward to engage reheat (Afterburner). Applies to all Phantoms. -
How to win at BFM in the Mighty F-4E Phantom
G.J.S replied to Victory205's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Not as yet, hopefully that will be implemented as well as altitude call-outs which WSO/Nav/RIO should perform when situation requires it. WVR fights being a prime example. Altitudes (own) would be most helpful below 15-20k. -

Will investigate and see, if I find any conflict with something else I will report here in case others run into the issue I’m having. Thank you for looking into it, good luck in your future endeavours. *edit. No idea what was happening, but it has corrected itself - whatever “it” was - and now works perfectly.

Unsure if I’ve borked something along the way or not, but when assigning the TU-22D a nuclear tasking in the ME, I cannot save the mission? Either of the TU-22 (both D & KD) work fine and can be saved normally when armed conventionally, but the D with either of the RN stores will not save. Small issue, but have to say that @tripod3 is doing wonderful work. The types he is bringing into DCS are badly needed, thank you Sir. *Edit:- Forgot to mention, DCS is at latest patch state, and the mod (entire folder “Cold War” etc) was placed in saved games/mods/aircraft.

Trimming and getting to on speed for landing
G.J.S replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
I’ve been thinking on this for a little while now, with some of the issues some are having. If @IronMike may be able to say, does this iteration of F-4 have BLC?, if so then this may have a bearing on some people having trouble landing, and it would likely be when retarding the throttle somewhat on the approach - BLC cuts out, causing a rapid drop in altitude when it’s not required. I believe that all USAF model ‘E’ had BLC up to around Block 50, but may be wrong. BLC drop was a thing on FGR.2, can’t see why the ‘E’ would differ? -
How to win at BFM in the Mighty F-4E Phantom
G.J.S replied to Victory205's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Not really, the thrust lines are too close to the fuselage centre. The effect (if any) will be minimal at best. -
Trimming and getting to on speed for landing
G.J.S replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Tire size and pressures differed for sure. The gear legs were basically identical regardless of which letter followed the “F-4”. But it’s a naval airframe, designed with the strength that was required for naval ops. The ‘no flare’ technique was useful for scrubbing away a few knots on touchdown instantly, which was a boost. -

I turn the combiner off, in sim and did so real world also. The tone is really all you need. Close to solid tone in the final turn, and be on tone and constant through the last 300 ish feet of altitude above runway. No need to flare, she’s a naval bird. Just maintain solid tone and between 600 - 900ft/min decent until contact with runway.
