  1. That is true, but our F-14(s) are drawn from a bit earlier in the Tomcat's life, so I felt it worth mentioning.
  2. Different radar, DFCS instead of the old analog system, and no, the F-14D never carried the AIM-120. At least, not operationally. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  3. I've been a pretty consistent lurker here since Leatherneck/Heatblur announced they were developing the Chariot of the Gods and I don't think I've seen this link posted before. Anyway... I found this footage while trolling YouTube and waiting for my laundry to finish. It's nothing terribly exciting, but I enjoyed watching it in any case. I believe the Tomcats are from VF-211.
  4. The stick itself would (or will, I guess) be great to have. I really like the thumb switch for Fox 2/3 missiles as well as the gun. Not to mention the DLC knob. Throttle assembly I can live without. My Warthog throttle has way too many useful features that I can map various actions to.
  5. I use a very "crawl before you walk" approach. Before I ever think about getting off the ground, I go through the steps to get the jet alive and breathing...and then I restart and do it again...and again...and again. Until I can do it from memory. After that, I pick a large airfield and practice steering the jet on the ground. Learning to judge distance and how much input to give the pedals. Then I take off, and learn to "fly". Memorize where everything is in the pit. After I'm reasonably comfortable with all that, THEN I teach myself to fight. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  6. Since this is conjecture thread, I suppose it couldn't hurt to toss my hat into the ring with the others. It seems logical (to me) that their next module will capitalize on what they've learned when it comes to modeling either variable wing geometry, multi-crew cockpits, or both. Personally, I'm leaning toward option #3. Assuming my guess is accurate, it narrows the choices down to 3 finalists: - SU-24 - F-111 - Tornado (probably the GR1) Again, it's all hypothesis, but I would feel reasonably comfortable eliminating the Fencer from the list since Mother Russia doesn't seem all that eager to share hard data on her airplanes. No, I believe it will be either the Aardvark or the Tornado since both would make use of "current technologies" and BOTH should (in theory) be relatively simple to gather information on. Not to mention that the addition of either airframe would deftly fill a slot that we do not yet have in DCS: an all weather, low level interdiction platform.
  7. Wake turbulence.

To a lot of people, the F-14A is the definitive Tomcat. The 'A' wasn't just the variant featured in that ridiculous 80s movie about fictional trophies, Kenny Loggins and testosterone, it was the version that was out there defending the fleet from the late 1970s until the first 'B' 'Cats began to trickle in. It was also the plane that a lot of us grew up seeing at airshows as well as the Naval Air Stations near our homes. I guess you could say that, for all it's quirks and imperfections, modeling the first operational Tomcat is a form of wish fulfillment and nostalgia. [shrug] That was my take, anyway. 10. Oh, I don't disagree. It was certainly a wise idea to include the LANTIRN pod and the F-14B's strike capability. It makes the module much more attractive to us. Not everyone enjoys mixing it up with heaters and a gun. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  11. If the F-14A had reliable engines, the I would be content with simply owning it alone. However, the TF30s, as we all know, were notoriously mercurial. Especially at times when they shouldn't have been. I want the 'B' model because of the advantages the F110s will give me "in the phone booth" with Flankers and Eagles. I mean, yeah, I get that the F-14B's primary appeal to people is probably dropping GBUs, but when I look at her I don't see a bomb truck. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  12. I agree. It's questionable as to whether I'd have purchased the F-14 at all if we were only to receive the 'A' 'Cat. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  13. Pilot. I'll be on my own most, if not all of the time, and Jester will no doubt be an exponentially better RIO than I could hope to be. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  14. I'm hoping I can successfully bind the radial menu to the hat button on my throttle.
  15. It follows that certain YouTube personalities likely have a promotional copy of the module in whatever state it's currently in, but I would speculate that they're under a kind of contractual obligation that prevents them from showing us any content until either Heatblur or ED (or maybe both) is ready for it.
  16. Give me the VF-74 livery and I'll be happy. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  17. I seem to remember reading a post that Cobra made in regards to the Sparrowhawk. Something about preferring to just make the 'D' 'Cat instead of the upgraded 'B' if and when they ever decided to model it. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  18. These shots surpass my most optimistic projections of what I thought the finished product would look like. I actually dismissed the images at first because I thought they were photos of real F-14s. Well done, Heatblur. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  19. Not everyone. I know better than to expect more than that. Well, except maybe for a date for them to begin taking our orders.
  20. Not that I know of. I keep pretty current on Tomcat updates, and I can't remember reading any announcements other than what's coming tomorrow. I'm clearly speculating, of course, but my gut tells me that, since Ralfidude has obviously had some hands on experience and is probably also in posession of some kind of promotional copy, that the module is extremely close to being ready for distribution, AND it follows that we'll probably be told when pre-orders will be accepted. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  21. No, there will likely be an unveiling of the finished product (inside and out), as well as the opportunity to begin pre-orders either now or in the very near future. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  22. You won't find sea stories or technical data in this one (I guess you'd call it a coffee table book), but the author was a very accomplished F-14 pilot, and a TOPGUN instructor. He was also a damned good photographer. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  23. If you're also a fan of the Block 50 Viper, stay tuned. We're reportedly getting the Block 50 F-16C...eventually. It would be stupid to say never but, due to a lack of hard data, it doesn't appear that we'll be getting a Mirage update any time soon. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  24. I've wanted an extremely high fidelity F-14 simulation ever since I was first dazzled by a Tomcat demo in 1993. It's been 25 years and 5 months. I can wait a bit longer. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
