I tried getting into the F-18 but like yourself I couldn’t get into no matter how much I tried. I painfully learnt everything it has to offer but I have deleted the F-18 now as I can’t stand flying it and I can’t really work out what it is. But as soon as I’m in the cockpit I loose all motivation to fly. I fly the F-16 and JF-17 a lot. The F-16 is a great aircraft and in my opinion is good to get into right now, as it does have a fair bit to offer now that you need to learn. Plus you can learn the systems as they get released so the learning curve isn’t as much. As I’m a ground pounder mostly I really enjoy the JF-17 and at first I had the same opinion as you but as I got to learn it more I discovered it is actually one of the most complex aircraft in DCS with a lot of uniquely awesome systems onboard. Plus the weapons are rather impressive. however once the F-16 starts getting some love from ED and gets more ground attack abilities it is going to be a bloody awesome ground pounder I think.

Awesome work. Great skill to have in the JF cause now nothing is out of reach. Happy new year to all

I could be totally wrong here but I read somewhere that the data link update is more of a preparing for a feature to come but not actually implemented yet.

The red symbols are a fairly new key binding combo thing. I haven’t played around with the combo thing myself but it hasn’t caused any issue. But that’s a ED all aircraft thing not a JF thing. also in you axis controls look closely cause there is a fairly new binding for similar thing with antenna tilt. You may need to use the other binding. Many of us missed it when it came out

When you first rearm and load any of the GPS guided weapons (e.g LS-6, GB-6) you need to turn on master arm then on the SMS page select the weapons and you’ll see the weapon symbol flash for a second once it has a box around it. This will start the alignment process. You don’t need to cycle through every pylon you just need to change weapon type once and it will align all weapons of that type. Then on the SMS page while a GPS guided weapon is selected you will see CNTL on the top left of the screen. Select that OSB and you will switch to another screen that will NOT have a diagram of the aircraft but will show coordinates and a grid of 6 box’s. On top of the grid is where you will see the timer count down for the alignment.

lol that would be awesome

I can can refuel a fair few aircraft in DCS and I find the JF the hardest so don’t feel so bad. I found at the beginning to learn how to refuel the JF that helped me a lot was, lock the tanker with your radar so you get the closure rate on the HUD (be aware this would be strongly against procedures if your that way inclined) then I get fairly close to the left side of the tanker and match its speed. Once I’ve done that I close at about +3 knots with attitude hold on and I align the pod on the tankers wings with the centre of the heads up display horizontally, then as I approach the basket I DON’T take my eyes of the pod and use peripheral vision to align the top of the glass for the HUD to go through the centre of the basket (sort of slice the basket into 2 even sides). Once I connect I double tap attitude hold twice to reset it (I have attitude hold bound to a button on my throttle). I then just watch my closure rate to match the tankers speed. I usually have my throttle set to be slightly faster then the tanker and just tap my air brakes on and off to maintain my speed cause as you get heavier the more power is needed so playing around with the throttle can cause issues so I find it much easier to just use a higher power setting and leave the throttle alone. that works for me every time. Now I’m better at it I no longer use the radar but it helped a lot to begin with.

Fair enough, I misunderstood your original point.

I’m interested to hear as to why you say this as fact? I see these statements a lot in the forums when they demand the Aim-120 to be made more superior. I have been working with some of the most advanced submarine hunting and air search radars for a couple of decades now and Doppler is NOT the Gods eye for everything. There is soooo much going on in the radar world that a statement like PD radars can’t be effected by chaff is a shinning example of people reading Wikipedia as if it a reason to be called a qualified expert. People in my field spend years studying radar theory. In my current field a new member spends 4 months 5 days a week 10 hours a day just studying radar theory before They even get to see the radar itself. Then they get another 4 months of training before they get to go on a real mission and even then they aren’t considered a reliable operator for at least a year after that. So my point here is ED have their SME’s that unless you work in the field no matter how much you think you know it doesn’t scrap the surface to how much these people who have studied and learnt. Which ED I would suspect rely on for advice. Doppler is not the answer to the God radar/missile so much demand from ED. chaff does have an effect it always will have an effect as long as a radar pulse is involved. It effects some radars more then others but is also not the answer to easily defeating all missile either.

When I have 2x fuel tanks on the wing pylons and i go to Jettison the fuel tanks, The tanks drop off but the system acts like they are still there. You can see in the track I drop the tanks but the JET page still shows they are there and the config warning acts like they are still there for AG2. JF-17 JET bug.trk

It would be great to bring more much need capability to the red side. Blues getting everything that exists and it not ever slowing down. Someone need to fly the flag for red team and it’s only Deka giving the red side any attention. +1 for some. and +1 for BRM’s-90’s on inner pylons

Upgrade BRM90 rockets to the latest ED standard.

It came out in the September update I think ------------------ In OB 2.5.6.55743 ------------------- ChinaAssetPack BRM1 applies APKWS scheme JF-17: Fixed HUD/MFCD missing dMax and TDC dlz indicators Supported BRM1 with APKWS scheme -
LS-6 and GB-6 intercepted by SA-10. Is this normal?
Blinky.ben replied to Mirknir's topic in JF-17 Thunder
Yeah I understand Missiles are targets and bombs are not, But although technically GBU-38’s aren’t actually a glide bombs they still should fall under the same category as they do basically the same thing. Dumb bombs fall very quickly making the time for a SAM to engage one very time limited so I can accept how they are not a target in DCS. But the JDAMs are in the air a very long time, there is no reason they can’t be intercepted just like the LS-6’s -

But strangely a f-18 can drop 8x GBU-38’s from similar distance and essentially the same bomb but with wings and not get shot at. -
[FIXED] Very degraded performance within Beirut terminal area
Blinky.ben replied to Midair's topic in Fixed Bugs
I’m finding to be big performance hit for most the map. It’s only in the JF-17 also but can’t workout if it’s a map thing or JF-17 thing i think a little of both maybe -
I do see what you are saying, however if you look in chucks guide under the COO mode and DIR mode it states in the second last step the the seeker will power on 20km before the SPI. I read it as in those modes the seeker will transmit the TV signal but you shouldn’t have to adjust the missile as it should hit the SPI (I haven’t actually tested if that does happen I usually end up adjusting it myself). But in theory you shouldn’t need the tv feed then I guess. also the datalink pod isn’t just for the seeker display you can also change which wpt to fly too while the missile is inflight in route mode for example. A theory is maybe the pod and the missile continue to talk to each other for constant updates. Maybe that’s why it won’t work without the pod also. I’m just guessing here tho I don’t actually know if this is the case.

MITL IS NOT a mode, The CM-802AKG is ALWAYS MITL at the final stage no matter what mode you choose. The modes are nothing more then choosing how the missile gets to a point or how the missile receives the co-ordinate to fly towards. But no matter what, it is ALWAYS MITL at the final stage. So no data link pod then no guidance at final stage, period. The missile does not have a radar or any self terminal guidance it has to have human input or you happen to get lucky and the missile just happens to fly into the target. also the rear of the missile has a 120degree FOV so at the final stage you have to be within that arc or you won’t get a datalink connection with the datalink pod for the final MITL stage either.

I found the issue, if I add dynamic weather to any of my missions the Type-200 bombs don’t drop and the mk-82 snake eyes don’t drop either. as soon as I remove dynamic weather I have no problems. I haven’t tried just add wind in the normal weather page but I tested it with dynamic weather off and no wind and I had no issue at all dropping the bombs
-
So it seems this problem is bigger. I can’t drop the type-200 bombs or the mk82 snake eyes. I can drop the mk20’s but they seem to fall very short of the SPI. I can fire rockets and all the other MK serious. I have uninstalled the JF-17 and reinstalled but this does not fix the issue. I have rebound my controls and still doesn’t fix the issue. any suggestions? Edit. It seems that any mission that I have ever previously made gets this bug. But if I start a new fresh mission in editor this bug doesn’t happen. I’m guessing there is no way around this except having to make the missions again?

Yep I’m pressing weapons release the whole time the tone is going.
