  1. agree. i just recently installed Win10 Pro from scratch in less than 1/2hr.
  2. for a once in 5 year build with all new hardware, it would be a shame to start out with a HD full of detritus and out of date drivers for hardware you no longer have, just to save a few hours of time.
  3. DCS not multi-threaded? if you take finance classes or run a business, you learn it doesn’t work like that. it doesn’t matter how much the customer spends on “other” products, it only depends how much they spend on “your” product. if they charged 10x more for DCS, they could do a lot more development and optimization. but for $79? that only pays for about 1 hour of work.
  4. “ruin” is a bit harsh. it depends on the business objectives. it may be a real boon to the bottom line
  5. ^ this zhukov knows what he is talking about.
  6. there is no new VR tech “just around the corner”. if there was, everyone would be talking about it already. if you are interested in VR, just pull the trigger and enjoy it. you can always sell it on ebay in two years when the new stuff comes out.
  7. NVMe SSD over SATA SSD ??? virtual memory and page file usage is not that simple. first thing to remember, monitoring tools only show what windows tells them. and windows does not always tell the truth. for example, can your tool tell the difference between a memory page only in ram, and one that is in ram and used from ram, but backed up in the page file and causing it to grow in size? second thing to remember, working set is different than allocated, different than committed, different than private. third thing to remember, data can only get into your ram via a hard page fault. so monitoring the number of hard page faults can easily be misleading. forth thing to remember. DCS is not the only process running on your machine using CPU, using ram, hitting your storage device or downloading megabytes through your network card. so when you are looking for the causes of stutter, be sure to look at the other 179 programs you have running at the same time. oh, and don’t forget the extra processes used by vr. they take cpu, ram and hard page faults too.
  8. DCS runs well on multi-core, multi-threaded machines like yours with no problems. so you don’t need to worry about that. we were talking about optimizations and utilization.
  9. products that generate new revenue are always welcome. products that bring in new flight sim enthusiasts are always welcome (and needed)
  10. NVMe SSD over SATA SSD ??? nvme is great tech. it’s newer tech. it’s faster tech. but its not “make DCS faster/better” tech. if that’s your goal, your time and money is better spent elsewhere
  11. i hear ya. i would like it too, but unless the DCS devs can do something other devs can’t. it’s not going to happen.
  12. DCS is already multi-threaded, but there are technical issues that make it difficult to do what you want. spinning work off into different threads is easy. coordinating and synchronizing dependent operations is difficult. doing it without stutter, jutter and stalls is almost impossible. what would you like? software that is heavily threaded and uses all of your cores? or software that has predictable and consistent frame-rates? you need to choose. you can’t have both. if i buy a 36 core machine with triple SLI, you don’t really expect it to run 2x better than it does now, do you? how is the software supposed to do that?
  13. Is VR worth it in DCS? i agree. i’m puzzled and unsure where all this anti-windows 10 stuff comes from. it’s faster, it’s more secure, it’s more stable, and it’s supported... do yourself a favor and upgrade.
  14. NVMe SSD over SATA SSD ??? nvme is a faster technology than sata but most users, machines and most workloads can’t take advantage of it. unless you have specialized workloads, the speed difference between nvme and sata is 10x less than the time it takes to blink your eyes. or put another way, unless you are loading multi 1000 of files or a few 500Mb ones, you cant even measure the difference.
  15. don’t do that. two partitions are slower than one use more space in overhead require you to manage it unless you need to physically separate the data, there is no advantage, and only downside
  16. How To Set Up Page File/s DCS World?? ^ this modern operating systems do not work the way you think they do. and they definitely do not work the way they did 15 years ago when PF optimizations were the rage. make sure your machine has 16gb of ram, then get out of the way and then let windows do its thing. the engineers at Microsoft know what they are doing.
  17. NVMe SSD over SATA SSD ??? i have not seen any improvement in games or sims with nvme. can you post your load time improvements ? it will be interesting to see.
  18. how does this work with all the steam and wmr headsets?
  19. they need to interact, interoperate and support linux workloads, but i don’t see them releasing their own distribution for users they get a lot of complaints and support calls from windows 10 users. they would get 100x more from those users using linux i don’t think they could afford it
  20. Alienware Laptop for DCS? i have always been lucky with laptops. i have 6 in the house right now, a few of them are 10 years old. all of them work as well as the day i bought them. some even better than new after i removed the bloatware they came installed with.
  21. yes, what Bitmaster said. you have too many things plugged in at the same time. your only option is to pick and choose which ones you need and leave the rest.
  22. Improving Samsung Odyssey clarity it will often hold 90fps, just not with the settings you choose. some settings double workloads... and there is only so much a 5Ghz core can do. the developers could limit your settings choices to the lowest common denominator they know will work for everyone, but do we really want them to make that decision for us?
  23. will we need the upcoming 3080ti to get that feature?
  24. Leveraging the VR performance boosting of 1000 series+ GPU... that s because VR is such a small market. most titles don’t support it and most users don’t have it. “we” are the exception.
  25. number digits start with 0 and go up to 9. 0 is the first one
