  1. a compute device will only be at 100% if it has too much work to do and can’t keep up. you don’t really want to be in that situation.
  2. Is this upgrade worth it? i’m the same way. but it could be worse. you could pay even more than necessary for “future proofing”
  3. nVidia 418.81 huge performance drop only if you exist in a perfectly static and unchanging world. if you are at 100% all the time, you will have no headroom or extra capacity to tap into when needed. e.g. if your car is at 100% on a flat road, how are you going to make it up the next hill?
  4. bigger is better right? :)
  5. why do these folders have to be deleted. too many files?
  6. is that with the same environment, same AI, modeling and detail?
  7. Pimax 5K+ review from a long time Rift user how can pimax display more pixels with the same performance? are they using a more modern rendering tech stack and more efficient drivers?
  8. agreed. heck, even 3 pies would be fine. you’ll be flying wwii long after the pies are gone.
  9. Pimax 5K+ review from a long time Rift user nice writeup. thanks. is the fps performance the same as the rift?
  10. i suppose the prof drives could have redundant controllers and redundant storage memory, along with external circuitry and firmware to switch between the failing and working pieces, but it seems excessive. we don’t do this in our data centers. instead, we buy redundant cheap drives and safeguard the data with backups. but your suggestion definitely looks like the easier and less hassle one
  11. difficult multi threading is not specifically a flight sim issue. it’s difficult anytime you need low latency, interactive feedback. yes flight sims fall into this category, but so do many other types of interactive software (including most games).
  12. i never heard of this before. is it true? how do the professional versions protect themselves from death?
  13. YES !! super sampling just means the image starts out larger than the display can show. at the end of the day, that large image is resampled back down to the lower resolution (whatever resolution your display is) losing some of the original pixels and details (some call the extra details, “artifacts”).
  14. DCS and Pimax how much of a perf increase are we going to get with the upcoming optimizations? 2x? 3x? 5x?
  15. wow. you need some sugar.
  16. Another good VR news from HP is upscaling what we want? what’s the point? isn’t it the same thing that was panned when we had upscalers for HD tv’s?
  17. Question on this 2080 Ti isn’t it cheaper to buy the minimum you can actually use and take advantage of? buying what you can’t use for 18 months seems like a waste. and it will be cheaper to buy later too... and you are likely to have more options to choose from. future proofing is expensive, and rarely works.
  18. hardware helps but does not guarantee. correlation does not imply causation.
  19. Pimax 5K+ DCS review and 2080ti benchmarks fyi - most companies will not provide “best settings” guidance because it varies too much, depending on hardware and software. you’ve experienced this yourself, the forums are filled with various and sometimes conflicting “best settings”. heck, even your wingman buddies use different settings than you do. i understand the desire, just saying it’s not likely to happen. it would also being limited use since things change so fast.
  20. anyone? if i switch from Steam to ED, can i still play on both my two desktop machines and my laptop?
  21. ^ this there have already been documented hacks into military linux systems. “linux” doesn’t mean secure.
  22. the vrms can’t be that bad... asus boards are one of the most popular boards for overclocking
  23. the operating system is highly tuned to make efficient use of the hardware resources it has available. taking away and limiting resources is not a commonly used way to get a smooth and efficient running system, but heck, odd things happen every day. it might come down to the other software you have running on the machine and how it interacts with DCS. if that software holds locks or requires exclusive use of finite resources, that might explain it.
  24. i've been a big supporter of Steam for years, mostly because i can use my purchased products on any machine where i install and login (upstairs desktop, downstairs workstation, travel laptop, etc). Only one at a time, of course. if i switch from Steam to ED, bind my current licenses to the ED e-shop, and do everything using ED from now on, can i still play on multiple computers? Or is that a Steam only feature?
  25. [MERGED] DirectX 11/12, OpenGL, VulkanAPI Discussion you don’t really have a choice, so i’d simply stick with the one that works.
