Well...last night started up the Serpents Head campaign. Maybe just needed a breather week, simple formation flight over Nevada and simple Case 3....felt good to not get blown out of the sky because of getting lost in the electronics/controls. Mission 2 I think showed one of my biggest issues, which I'll take to the F-18 forums. (Was a stress point that would have been an issue in a combat scenario, but didn't hinder these two missions). Thanks guys!

Is 32 GB of RAM enough for DCS in VR or will it make use of more Ram
A2597 replied to darkman222's topic in Virtual Reality
Shoot, I just recently upgraded to 32GB, and I'm using all four slots. (4x8GB) -
Hmm...M-2000 might be a good bet, CCIP and CCRP are basic "Learn once nothing changes" type things, where F-18 I feel compelled to use the Targeting Pod which changed so much I struggle with it. But basics of TACAN, ILS, VOR, etc are all there... Worth the two week trial for sure.

So been flying the F-18 since it first launched, and absolutely love everything about this plane. I love carrier ops, I love it being multi role, I love the flight model, the HMCS, the radar, the targeting pod...basically...everything about it. My issue is, I get one 'Game Night' a week, and that begins when the kids are in bed, around 9pm, and last until 10:30 to 11pm...so, about 2 hours a week to fly, on average. (May have a small spurt here and there where I can hop on). In the beginning, that was fine, I learned carrier ops, I learned how to use the radar and basic dogfighting and bombing, and AA Refueling, and so fourth. But as the module has developed, I'm finding that ~2 hours a week in the cockpit means I forget *soooo* much between flights. I wind up spending my time each week basically re-learning the thing I did several weeks ago (Because lets face it, you can't cover everything in a two hour window), and while I absolutely *love* this plane, I'm having to admit that unless I limit myself to just a couple of things, I'm not going to master this plane until I can get more consistent flight time with it. So, recommendations for something that I can have fun in, that may not be as fully featured (despite how much I love a multi-role), that I might be able to enjoy with a limited flight time each week? I love jets, but am open to anything, even WW2. Main thing is I'd love to know that I'll be able to actually enjoy it, which includes multiplayer, missions, etc. Also, I'm that guy that likes to cold start it and does the engine fire tests on a server, so full fidelity is a must. I own both A-10s, the F-16, and the F-18. A-10 is awesome, but I have a feeling I'd struggle even more with it than the F-18. F-16 I honestly haven't given enough time, because...well, 2 hours a week. Thanks!

I have two base stations, but have flown with just one turned on. There's a button on the left side of the headset, right next to the status LED. That will let you click through Steam VR menus, or enable passthrough if enabled in SteamVR.

*PIC ADDED* HIGHEND GEAR SELLOUT (VKB,MFG,VIRPIL,COLLECTIVE,TRACKIR,G2)
A2597 replied to Bamamike7187's topic in For Sale
So sorry to hear about your wife, hope all goes well and she beats it quickly. Prices are good, good luck sir! (Crosswinds tempt me, but I do not have the cash to buy) -
You can do the setup with the button on the headset, I often start up and fly without the controllers. (But bought two Knuckles because I do roomscale as well).

Are you using the steam version of DCS? Or stand alone? I had to add Standalone DCS as a non-steam game to get the per-application SS settings to work.

fholger - Modified OpenVR DLL with AMD FidelityFX SuperResolution Upscaler
A2597 replied to Krupi's topic in Virtual Reality
I found 0.85 sharpening to be best for me, and the shimmering isn't that bad, appreciate the resolution bump more than the shimmer. (I'm on a 3070 though, with an R5 3600x processor, soooo, I can't compete with you guys flying a 3090) -

I actually had my best results when I turned msaa off. Seemed like less shimmer. On a whole, I'd say its a win. Now running steamVR at native res, and while its not as clear as if I ran native res without it, it is getting me better framerates, and acceptable image quality. -

I was just coming here to post this, I can't play with it until this evening. I'd settle for same visual quality, more FPS. (I'm already running my VP2 at 80%, because I can't power native res, and even that is pushing it on my system). -
Re: vr sickness. Key is to stop as soon as you feel the first twinge. DO NOT PUSH THROUGH IT! The first time I tried to push through and ohhh man I felt terrible for over a day. Then saw to stop at first signs...and that worked much better. After around a week, I was through it, doing short flights and hopping off when I felt it. Now I can fly as long as I want however I want with no issues. (Acrobatics included).

I used mouse, no issues. Then I bound left and right click to a HOTAS switch. Look and press! Worked really well for a lot of functions. Then I got pointCTRL, and.....never fly without it. Soooo nice!

VR Player, fully agree. I make it a habit after a mission, to land...shut down my plane, open the canopy...and watch other planes land and take off, sometimes go room scale and get out of my chair and just...enjoy the feeling of being there. It's an amazing sim, and yes...fulfills a life long dream to fly these planes in a way that no sim could ever hope to before now.

Part of why we keep bringing it up is so Devs can see community interest, and gauge if it's worth working on. I fully support a dev taking a day to investigate how much work it would be to implement, and a decision being made based on that. If it can work with VR, every frame helps!

I'll believe it when I see it. Not betting it will be anytime soon. Valve does their own timeline. (See Half Life 3....)

Oh WOW that made a massive difference! Like oh my goodness how is this not front page on first startup with a new headset? I feel like when my eye doctor flips the lenses in front of me and says "how's this?" After just trolling me with the wrong prescription!
-
Hmm, might try that eye tool, didn't know it existed. I do find a bit more eye strain in DCS than with my CV1.
-
Desktop. What are people downloading to install now?
-
I get the loading shaders text, but then I can't turn. It on or off, or open the menu. (Home and End) anyone else have that issue?
-
Wasn't there a text config setting that disabled auto resolution?
-
I scrounged savings, bitcoin mining, and a little of the last stimulus to get the cash for the upgrade. I love it, huge upgrade from the CV1!
-
Biggest change in FOV was when I saw my sidewinders when ground spotting. I was like "Never had THAT before, usually have to crank my neck to see my wings!"
-
I think I would say Vive Pro 2 as well. You will need a beefy PC to power it though.
-
Hmm... enable 45fps? Curious how that would look in dcs...
