  1. I am with you on freeware in general but really I have had zero issues with anything like that with this tool, for my old i7 920 it was invaluable for hunting out upto date mobo drivers etc. I would never recommend anything bad :)
  2. May I suggest a free app that was suggested to myself when I had some issues of a similar nature to yours. https://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php It is great for making sure all your drivers are installed and up to date. It contains no bloatware just an occasional prompt to update or go Pro Also check your preload radius ingame is maxxed out
  3. When I bought the Viggen I learned all the systems in 2d as my Rift was RMA. I found it easier to learn the systems in 2d and then translate my learning into VR which because I knew the systems meant I did not have to constantly refer to manual and all that entails whilst using an HMD:) But nothing beats the choppers in VR as has been said. Having a collective and cyclic also means your hands are where they are ingame which adds hugely. Worth thinking about as having a hotas will be more immersive in a plane rather than a chopper
  4. I will babysit (thats what Disney was invented for) you pay in top end computer parts
  5. Also get something like real temp to measure your temperature now and then later. I assume someone built this rig for you ? Do you use all of your expansion cards ? https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-real-temp/ try this https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24075/Intel-Extreme-Tuning-Utility-Intel-XTU- Also just been checking. Your mobo should come with asus AI suite which has an overclocking tool called 5 step optimisation. Check that out first http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/ASUS_XTU_V612208.zip?_ga=2.220886616.1577527719.1511004757-1471997241.1509918883 This will give detailed info about your system https://www.belarc.com/products_belarc_advisor And if you really are not experienced in computing as such then please use this once a week. It will clean out your temp files etc and generally gives a boost in performance especially if you have never cleaned up your PC before :) https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download I use the freeware option and run it about 2x a week. First time run it will take a long time and check the settings if you want to keep passwords etc
  6. Watch that and come back with questions :)
  7. Take lots of pictures. We like shiney things :)
  8. LMAO
  9. Glass = heat mate, and who looks anyway :) its just easier to spot the dust!!!! Best case manufacturer bar non IMHO http://www.coolermaster.com/case/full-tower/cosmos-c700p/ Better than glass and RGB ready for all your pimping needs Every PC I have built over the years has had CM cases, my last one was a Cosmos S. Mobo tray makes tinkering a doddle :) Also Lars, new architechture will be coming next, Intel have taken this CPU as far as it will go with Coffeelake. Wait for SandyOceanX :D
  10. Yes mate, nice tip that. Also the new.31 drivers are poles apart from the .13 version. Nvidia screwed up hence less than a month before a new RC :)
  11. I rolled back in device manager need to get the latest after I finish streaming The Godfather part 1
  12. What about adding a sata expansion card ? It worked in my old system when a sata port was connected to an optical drive (remember them? :) ) and I needed an extra sata port, takes one of the PCIx1 iirc
  13. I have 3 SSD's, 1 for OS, 1 for DCS and 1 for other games that benefit from fast transfer speeds, 2 fast HDD's in striped raid for games that need less load times and 1x1TB HDD for photos, video's and stuff I don't want to loose but will never need. Think every Beta installer for the DCS A-10 (pre DCS world) When I build my new system either a Z270 or Z370 chipset I will add an M.2 drive and probably go for the Samsung Evo 500Gb just for flight sims. Looking forward to the performance upgrade:) Let us know how you get on please
  14. This driver is not as good as the previous one for DCS IMO. I wonder if anyone else is having poor performance with 388.13 ?
  15. This i5 build actually belongs to my son. I borrowed it because it has built in USB 3.0 (for the rift) he has my old 920 i7 with the watercooling setup. That is what is really being replaced. The guts of this build will go to replace my wife's old core2duo. I wish I could find a use for the Zalman cpu cooler that will be obsolete unless I can somehow mod it for the 920. I am starting to wonder if the 8th gen and z370 the best build for my budget. i5 7600K is probably better value for money especially given the discrepancies in price between 370/270 mobo's and spend the savings on more ram or an M.2 drive. with my 360 rad and D5 vario I should be able to push 5Ghz without too much issue. Does the 270 chipset accept 3200 DDR4?
  16. Oops my bad, yeah 16 Gb :music_whistling:
  17. Don't ask me mate, I don't understand either:doh: Sure, you still have access to the 229th forums ? there are a few examples on there which I copied or if I can find it, some pics on here Actually these are real old ones before I revamped things with a wheelstand pro https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2844625&postcount=40
  18. Hi mate, the rift is very demanding, it uses quite a bit of CPU power and I think this reduces what is available for DCS. I am going to try the affinity core tweak thats mentioned in another thread. Also my wife has 2 horses which I hardly ever complain about which cost a lot to keep, so its my turn now:P
  19. It worked for me. AT least I set up all the settings to max tried it with both 2.1 and 1.5 with great results in both fps and visuals. This is with the rift. I then installed the latest Nvidia driver and fps took a nose dive. Reverting the settings to default in Nvidia CP brought my FPS back to acceptable levels. I need to investigate further though :)
  20. Nice I will have to give this a whirl when time permits :)
  21. I run a 1080 with the rift and have to adapt my settings to suit. I am pretty sure my CPU is now the bottleneck. BUT I can run at 60fps@1080 with everything maxxed out See my sig for system specs. I am looking at upgrading and my wife is footing the bill as my Christmas present. After doing some research and consulting with Bitmaster I will be going for the 8600K with a Asus Prime A Z370 and 12Gb 3200 DDR4 RAM. This is going to be around 640GBP and will fit into my exsisting PC with a custom W/C loop A Cheaper alternative which still has very high clock speed is https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Core-I3-7350K-4-20-GHz/dp/B01NCEJN24/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1510405102&sr=8-7&keywords=i3+cpu paired with a cheaper Z270 mobo and new RAM would be a budget build with great performance for DCS stick a 1070 or 1080 in when funds allow and you should be quite well future proofed Or for a few quid extra the new Coffee lake i3 with 4 cores https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0759FWJDK/ref=psdc_430515031_t3_B01NCEJN24 But you still pay a premium for a Z370 board Good luck
  22. I wonder how many Gb's 90,000 square KM terrain will be:music_whistling: Thats way bigger than Normandy IIRC not sure about NTTR :book:
  23. Did you try repairing DCS before you started with your PC? Just from what I read I understand you just dragged your DCS instal to a fresh machine. The registry will not know what modules and terrain you have and the saved games file will have to rebuild itself ? Just trying to help :) Lars what we discussed. Z370 has 10 bios updates incl some betas :)
  24. Best of luck with this. One of our head sheds at the 229th is a RL UH-60 pilot I will point him to this thread:)
