  1. If we are talking about platter drives, White absolutely can get a huge performance boost switching out the platter drive for an SSD. I have a laptop and did that. The platter drive can be cloned to the SSD (using free Macrium Reflect, I did that). If I arrived to Kobuleti and it was full activity, game could freeze for minutes .... 1.8 GHz really? I thought my 2.4GHz (turbo to 3.4GHz) was low.
  2. Had the very same thought. This button ("mark forum as read") need not be as prominent (if needed at all), I never felt a need for it, wouldn't know where to find it on the old board. Also, still want a go-to-last-post button as I posted earlier (annoying to have to scroll all the way down after clicking "last page") : * Add go-to-last-post button Again using (an image of) a private vBulletin board board as an example. Circled blue button left = go-to-first-unread. Circled blue button right = go-to-last-post (regardless read or unread). Note, zoomed in view. I like the blue because it's the "link-color". Leftmost symbol (that I'm not insisting on emulating even if it's good) works as follows: green-mark = I posted in that thread, white-background = nothing unread (also noted by absence of left blue button), blue-background = unread posts (also noted by presence of left blue button). * Make sticky's stand out by different background. Here light yellow. Again, my favorite vBulletin board. Note go-to-last-post and go-to-first-unread buttons still red circled. Note, normal (100%), not zoomed in view.
  3. Got something I specifically asked for. Click menu to sort by plane type, airfield type, country etc ... Find all all spots featuring one plane. Small new bug (slight annyonce level). The Ruler is off while selecting 2nd click if screen resolution isn't the same as DCS resolution. Ruler is correct after releasing 2nd click.
  4. 17GB, 28 MB per second, took 10-15 min maybe. What always takes a lot longer are the MP servers to update <taps finger>.
  5. Player Igritz showed a trick (with Bf109) that works beautifully. Stand on the brakes and power up to lift the tail. Release brakes. It will roll forward getting tail wheel inside deck. Zero damage possible (need re-verify). Worked twice in a row first try P-51. Tried Spitfire, worked first time. I-16 brakes to weak for nose over so will not work. Loved to make a gif but it doesn't replay well.
  6. It's for ordering AI around then. Human players don't need this, human players (with DCS-SRS) can always set the same channels and talk.
  7. Is there a Tag policy? Are tags encouraged? I think tags are great.
  8. All in title. I don't understand their function, purpose. Editing the frequency changes sometimes the second pre-set channel and sometimes changes the first pre-set channel. Only for planes with pre-set channels, Warbirds and F-86.
  9. Mea Culpa. Seems I was wrong about not getting eternal 170 repair cycles. It just happened offline with the Bf109. I don't know what that means. I fly the Bf109 very little. I fly Spitfire and P-51 (a lot) and of those two anecdotally I can't remember ever getting an eternal repair cycle. I don't have the energy to downgrade yet again to see if this is new behavior of Bf109. Not yet anyway. Doesn't mean the repair malfunction I reported isn't real but I must submit a track where it actually exists.
  10. I experimented with that and found it breaks at speed. On one of the original (stickied?) I-16 threads, some guy mentions the real I-16 had ground adjustable trim tabs. If verified it could be implemented like the Bf109, adjustable in "Special".
  11. A private board I'm on (vBulletin) is so similar I think it's a derivative or same software with other settings. I use Images from that board to illustrate. * I asked for "make-hypertext-of-selected-text" and "remove-hyper-text-link-of-selected-text button. Better named "link" and "unlink" buttons maybe. Here's these buttons (blue circled) arranged on that vBulletin board (also shoving auto transforming into double rows). Links in text should be blue and underscored (internet standard) for visibility. Start of this point they're black ("asked for"). vBulletin board skips underscoring ("Linking to something"). * I also asked for a "plain text" button. I meant a button that shows the plain text source code. We had that on the old board. Red circled is a "Source" button and a "Remove Format" button (on the private vBulletin board). It seems we now have the latter (that removes italics, bolding, color ...) but we still don't have the former. Seeing only the plain code is often very useful, and again, we had that on the old board. * Green circled (above) is an "Image" button. I discovered the "Other Media" dropdown that works similarly. I wouldn't mind an "Image" button too though. But ... image handling now has a new functionality I long wished for. Size customization regardless of original image size. Again, a near identical (doubleclick) functionality on the "vBulletin" board. Except one thing that this board lacks. A button to resize to original image size. Image from vBulletin board. Red circled button resets to original image size. This is probably something that can be enabled. Now one have to delete and start over, if original size is wanted. * Number each post so they can be textually referenced like: "post #7". Had this on the old board. * I asked "Navigation at top disappears when zooming in to 150% or more". Illustration. I watch from a distance sometimes (for "reasons") and zoom in to 120-200%. This navigation disappears when zooming in depending on zoom level and window width. It shouldn't. Also, use a high visibility color. Blue is the link color ... but any highly visible color is fine. Plain black is fine if white'ish background. * The puke smiley is back. Notice yellow to green, chins swelling, how it comes out of the noose, that's artistry. Put "Eagle Dynamics" collection at top, instead of last. * Clicking "Profile" on (up top) Account Drop-Down might want to default to "See my activity" page. Because that's 90% of reason one goes there I figure. To locate one's own old posts. It need not list either "Topics" or "Posts" immediately. I figure that might strain the board if it always did a search on clicking "Profile". The "See my activity" might even be located on the Account drop down up top every page.
  12. Don't you want to land on the CV, creep up to a refueling jet, light them up and set everything on fire? Just me then.
  13. 2. if you request a repair you will get one, this is not a bug. No, you don't, you never have and you shouldn't get a repair cycle without damage. Played two years, it works like this: You have damage and asking for repair you'll get one (1) 170 sec repair cycle. If you ask for it again, nothing happens. Implied logic I figured, you have no damage, nothing to repair, you'll get no second 170 sec repair cycle. To verify my anecdotal experience I cold spawned every plane I have (fresh spawn has no damage). Surprised the three P-51 variants gets a single (once) 170 repair cycle. No cold spawn repair cycle on any other plane (A-10A, Spit IX, Spit IX CW, SU-25, SU-25T, SU-27, SU-33, Bf109-K4, F-15C, F-86F, I-16, J-11A, MiG-29A, MiG-29G, MiG-29A). That's how it should work IMO. You shouldn't get a false indication of damage when you have none and having to wait 3 mins. I downgraded to 2.5.5.41962 just to test. Only tested the P-51 variants and the Spitfire. P-51 still gets a single cycle. I guess they always had this anomaly. Cold spawn Spitfire IX doesn't get 170 sec repair without damage. I'll get back to the 2.5.5.41962 version Spitfire below. DCS_updater.exe update 2.5.5.41962@openbeta 1. It looks like repair is working, how are you determining that the damage has remained? I don't see any visual indication or other indication of damage remaining, can you show me in a video what you are seeing? maybe I am overlooking something. I said that there may not be damage in this specific track (the multiplayer tracks are longish and unsuitable to submit). Also said it doesn't show visually. But it did happen twice in online multiplayer. 1) Tail-wheel damage. Repaired multiple times, first looks visually fine and then tail wheel sinks into the ground. 2) Second MP experience, gears didn't retract. Took off, landed, repaired multiple times. Again, after repair, plane looks visually fine, but gears didn't retract after take off. I assumed there was (might be) damage in my short submitted track above because I kept getting 170 sec repair cycles when asking for it, which you don't get without damage. Back to my 2.5.5.41962 version downgrade. In old 2.5.5.41962 I deliberately crashed the Spitfire IX a dozen times (lost count) in a very similar manner as the crash in supplied track (track was unusable in old version) trying to recreate behavior. Not once did I get the unlimited-170-sec-repairs-on-asking-for-it appear again. Had to try multiple times because, as mentioned in post above, behavior does not appear in a simple stand-on-brakes-nose-over-break-prop damage. The get unlimited-170-sec-repairs-on-asking-for-it is new behavior, indicating either new repair behavior or old repair behavior getting triggered because everything doesn't get repaired. I thought that was indication enough to submit a track. I can keep crashing offline hoping to recreate something unambiguous. In the track I submitted above, one wing looses ammunition (verified by taking control & firing guns), but that isn't strictly "damage" I figure. As indicated by debrief screen:
  14. wayback machine works. https://archive.org/web/ https://web.archive.org/web/20200919220720/https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030
  15. Turns out, easy to reproduce offline. See track, five consecutive 170 sec repair cycles on the same spot. Note, need to crash Spitfire hard, a simple nose-over break prop doesn't seem to induce the perpetual repair cycle. Air start, slammed into runway, repaired five times. Need to stress again, damage remains after any number of repair cycles, even if it doesn't show on the outside. Don't know which, if any, damage remains in this specific track. But the perpetual 170 sec repair cycle is a bug in itself. But I did see, as reported in post above, twice having repaired online multiple times and still had damage. I assume what triggers the perpetual repair cycle is some remaining damage in this specific track also. Did due diligence (ensuring clean install): Did DCS "Repair DCS World Open Beta" from Win 10 menu, renamed Saved Games "DCS.openbeta" folder (forcing new folder creation). DCS 2.5.6.58125 Open Beta Intel Core i7 3630QM @ 2.40GHz (Max Turbo Frequency 3.40 GHz) 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M 447GB KINGSTON SA400S37480G (SATA-2 (SSD)) Spit_repair.trk dcs_logs.zip
  16. Very important. Make a usable good advanced search function. We simply have to have this to be able to research and make useful bug reports for instance. Unless I miss something, the "advanced search" options are severely limited. Need efficient search of forums by date, by username, by subforum hierarchy, and or logic of keywords, and more things I don't remember straight up ...
  17. * When narrowing window the bar of buttons contracts removing buttons Make it add a second row, like how one would expect any board to work. *Add plain text format button. Currently I can't figure out how to remove a quotation formatting * Add unlink button. There's a make-hypertext-of-selected-text button (left of quotation button). Needs a remove-hyper-text-link-of-selected-text button. So, there is a Remove-Link button that appears, sometimes ..., when clicking the make-hypertext-of-selected-text, still better to have a direct unlink button. * Add go-to-last-post button. In addition to the existing go-to-last-unread-post button. Make both blue instead of yellow. * Navigation at top disappears when zooming in to 150% or more. Don't ask why anyone would, I do, for reasons. Example: "Home > News > Official updates" "Home > English > DCS World War II > DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX > Bugs and Problems" And make this navigation blue or at least not the faded barely visible grayish. It's a major webpage functionality item. * Make the yellow on black major delimiters texts a much bigger font size. Example "DCS World War II". Imagine the black background. * Overall, graphically, seems a lot of wasted blank space taking up screen real estate * Remove default behavior of always unbidden making an attachment when link to external image * I cannot edit old posts * Finally. Big sad. The really great set of old smileys seems to be gone. Yes, there's a generic set now, mostly uninteresting. There was this sophisticated animated puke smiley for example that I first noticed maybe 15 years ago on other boards and was happy to rediscover on DCS board. Having been around a good while I'd say the smileys that was, were a really good set of the old classics.
  18. deleted, see suggestion thread.
  19. I can't edit old posts either. This must be fixed. Also, unless I miss something, the "advanced search" options are severely limited. To efficiently look for old bug reports and submit new ones, we have to be able to efficiently search the forums by date, by username, by subforum hierarchy, and or logic of keywords ... etc There needs to be an "unlink" button as well as the "link" button. Now hyperlinked text must be erased and retyped to remove the link.
  20. Happened twice now, first in Aerobatics server (see link below) and now in Hoggit server. I decided it's not a fluke, it's a bug. 1) It repairs visually but damage remains 2) Repair cycle can be repeated in perpetuity. Can do F8-->F3 "repair" any number of times and get a new 170 sec cycle. First time tail wheel didn't repair. Link to old "is this a bug?" post. This time, again repair visually but main gears refused to retract no matter how many times I repaired. Track file is multiple flights, hour long and larger than 5 MB, so skipping. Taking a guess, it's something to do with new damage model. It's probably not gear related (because two different gear problems) or even Spitfire specific. Someone else must have seen this?
  21. It's a button on the instrument panel. Wiki defines: I hadn't noticed this button before and now I wonder what it controls. Also hadn't noticed clickable left and right machine gun reload handle. Err ... If mod can move this to I-16 forum that'd be great.
  22. Left (port) moves when right pedal pressed and vice versa. Seems wrong, is it? Second thought, no it's probably correct. The "active" brake shows pressure, the "inactive" brake pressure drops to zero (therefore it moves). Can't delete post ...
  23. Just discovered that they exist and works as advertised. Can light them individually and the jettison button works. Problem is the only way to get them is to set a checkmark in the Mission Editor. But then, if used, they do not "come back" either by rearming or even after repair. Of course they should be reloaded on rearm, just like brakechutes gets "repacked" on rearm.
