  1. Not the answer you want but I would drop the $80 for the F/A-18C. It's that good already and only will be even better.
  2. Nice nod at Top Gun @ 1:37. :)
  3. Thanks again Hollywood! I'll keep an eye out for your response. :)
  4. Unfortunately after the last update (2.5.9) the problem is back; no landing lights. Tried the same settings but no luck. Reset the settings, no luck. Any ideas? :) Thanks in advance.
  5. You know, even the HUDs are 3D. First time I watched the HUD come up in the Hornet and saw the projection of it in the glass in VR was really cool. I mean, really really cool. Or watching a bomb drop the first time, then turning in to see if you hit target. Splash an enemy right in front of you at 20.000ft. Priceless. :)
  6. Tune in to airfield frequency, radio inbound, ask for navigation assistance/directions to final (request azimuth in the comms menu if I'm not mistaken).
  7. I used the A-10C mainly as a learning module. Not too fast so more time to deploy weapons, has a datalink, situational/tactical awareness display, onboard computer, wide range of AG weapons, a Targeting Pod, the works. It's one of the most complete -and complex- modules. Great to learn the basics (as far as that goes of course, like I said it's complex and a lot ;) ) of military aircraft. Not really intended for AA, obviously. :)
  8. For me it's more like when not having proper situational awareness and depth perception (i.e. VR) the resolution doesn't matter, it can't make up for those things, even if you'd have 12K on a 70" screen. Either you're looking at a small 2D representation of the sim, or you're in the sim. Quite the difference if you ask me.
  9. SteamVR is used to control the Vive (Pro), and Windows Mixed Reality goggles such as the Odyssey+ and others. The Rift uses it's own software, Oculus Home to control the headset. Windows Mixed Reality uses headtracking by means of two camera's on the front of the goggles, to keep track of your position. Never used WMR myself but I can imagine that tracking is more accurate with external camera's such as the Vive and the Rift.
  10. What about situational awareness, 1:1 head tracking, depth perception, scaling? Resolution is not a fair comparison with a 2D monitor in my opinion. :)
  11. I agree. Never going back to 2D pancake style.
  12. @Hollywood, since the release date for the F-14 Tomcat was announced (release on the 13th), when will you have the RIO addon available for purchase? :)
  13. For me, no labels, no dots. I mostly use the instruments and briefing info, my eyes of course, and sometimes when necessary the VR zoom function. Works fine for me. SP in VR only.
  14. Besides the video's from Hollywood himself, for VoiceAttack (not Vaicom Pro) this is also a good tutorial. Should help you out.
  15. I got a strange problem. Two days ago I bought Vaicom Pro with VoiceAttack. Works really well, except since then, when I want to land at night, or in the early morning, I radio "Inbound", get the normal response. Then I radio "Request landing", I get no response (cleared to land blabla), when I'm close to the runway (either Stennis or normal afb), I get the call "check landing gear blabla". But the runway lights haven't come on. The responses are the same in daytime, but then no lights are needed of course. When I use the normal comms menu, it works as usual. Any ideas anyone? I really miss the landing lights on runways, because almost all of the time I'm flying early mornings just before sunrise. I don't use mods or anything, haven't changed any .lua files or something. Now I'm on latest stable, but I switch between OB and Stable. ------------- EDIT Problem solved. In preferences, I had the option "Force NATO ATC names" checked. After unchecking it the lights worked again.
  16. Oki, thanks. Then I think I know where the issue comes from. :)
  17. I radio inbound, no runway lights, before sunrise. Since last update I guess, they worked a week ago. Not too big of a deal, changed the time of the mission and then noticed how much I relied on those lights on the Stennis. :) Although I hope it gets fixed (if it's broken that is).
  18. Stennis landing lights broken again? Won't come on when inbound.
  19. Just a guess since I just bought it today, but in the screenshot in "segment" I see (Flight) Engage air defenses. You say "Two", maybe say "Flight" to see if that works?
  20. Thanks Eaglewings! :)
  21. Is there a way to stop DCS repeating things I say? I mean, I say "request startup." Then I hear "Enfield 1-1, request startup", like I'm using the comms menu's. Any way to stop it from doing that, and just respond ("cleared for startup, wind blabla") when I say something?
  22. I have the VKB MKIV's, wouldn't want another one. especially because of the small size and the fact you don't have to rest your feet on it. I never missed toe-brakes, I use the brake lever on the VPC MT-50 grip for that.
  23. Well, if you don't use assisted startup and don't bother with the different checks, it can be a bit faster.
  24. HB should get ready as well. To be buried in praise. ;) Thanks for the update Cobra.
  25. Hog_No32 & Rainmaker, thank you both for your interesting discussion, reason I asked was because I guess I didn't (still don't actually) see a real reason for dumb bombs over smart ones. At least, nowadays. Nevertheless, just tried a few bombing runs, definitely noticed a difference in the pull-up cue and break X logic, for the better. Went almost as easy as Wags showed in his vids. ;)
