No, I don't. My learning is best by doing something or seeing (sometimes hearing) how you do something. Or talking about it. Over and over again.
I'm just more of a visualiser than a reader.
Besides that I exclusively fly in VR so even if I'd want to I can't take/read notes during flying.
Of course I've read things, sure I did, and still do, and I can remember most things as well. But to translate a few written words into the practical world is not well suited for me. So yeah, there are video's I've watched 5 times or something (excellent example for me was the vid by Lex Talionis regarding On Speed AoA and such in the F/A-18C -->
).
I'll manage. Thanks.
Indeed, to each their own.
In my case, I learn much, much easier when seeing (hearing) something than reading about it. Has been for nearly 40 yrs now. Pity it doesn't seem to get acknowledged here (at least, that's the feeling I get when reading these replies), but I'll keep flying of course, and keep an eye on youtube.
Thanks anyway folks. :)
Yes of course, but that narrows your sight, sort of like a monocular effect if you will, so, still the same problem, hard to spot (moving) targets. Unless you fly on a beamer with a 120" projection on 16K or something (didn't calculate how big you actually would need for life size FOV).
Yeah, but it's not 3D, it's a 2D representation on a monitor. And then you also would need to set the FOV to true 1:1 scale, if you would want to compare with/translate from 3D.
After all your great write-ups of different procedures and tips and such, when are you gonna jump behind a stick with a camera mounted at the screen, and show off your tips in (digital/virtual) practise to us?
Would help a lot of us I imagine. We can't have enough tutorials and vids. :)
Again thanks for your insightful contributions on the F-14!
Not on a monitor it hasn't. On a monitor, screen size in relation to resolution comes into effect. Ergo, the physical size of the pixels used in the screen. They are smaller in a 32" 4K than in a 32" 1080p. Hence more difficulty spotting on a 32" 4K.
Like the recently released F-14B, I would really like a sound which you can use as feedback to know when you engage the afterburner, maybe a click-sound or something, as one can hear in the F-14B.
For those of us not using the Warthog throttle, and/or finger lifts, but just kinda guess while checking the IFEI when advancing the throttle, it would come in real handy. :)
Just a thought.
Thanks.
Starting the bird from the pilot seat is fairly easy, systems operation as well. Really like those little arrows you can set on the airspeed indicator, glance at it and see instantly how fast you need to fly for a landing for instance (VR).
Flying it properly though, whole other ball game.
Landing on an airfield, yeah sure. On the carrier? Ask me again in a few weeks. ;)
Right, you are right.
About the hook, true, I use that on 1 button. "extend, else retract". When out, go in, when in, go out. Sort of. ;)
edit: forget to look but I recall there's a toggle as well for Hook? just beneath the option you mentioned.
Higher resolution monitors have smaller pixels, ergo, the higher the resolution on the same screen size, the harder it becomes to spot planes at a distance. That's why spotting in the Rift is relatively easy (also because of 1:1 head movement, which is more natural in focussing on a specific point, moving your eyes and/or head away from target, and move eyes/head back. Can't have that on 2D with TiR). I think. :)
Hook toggle already possible to bind, otherwise I'm dreaming. ;)
Have it bound to a momentary toggle switch, works as intended/expected.
Kneel is not on the list?
I assigned an axis for the DLC aft/forward (VirPil MT-50 Throttle). Works fine.
Would like bindings for Nose Strut/Kneel and Parking Brake, and axis for VHF\UHF ARC-182 Volume as well as the ICS Volume.
Thanks HeatBlur for your outstanding work! :)
Yesterday I couldn't find the exact place where to move the canopy lever, same as you. I ended up peeking underneath the Rift at my keyboard, but would like a working lever of course. Because VR. :)
Couldn't find those either.
Also I can't find the binding to salute before launch? And the Kneel/Nosewheel strut.
Other than that, no issues. Great machine! :)
