  1. You would think so. As I said, I was stunned that my hit rate increased so dramatically with the AIM-54A Mk60...
  2. This. From the manual: “The AIM-54 has a range of at least 60nm against a fighter sized target at high altitudes in PD-STT.” That’s compared to 50nm in TWS.
  3. It’s the F-14 Tomcat, one of the most iconic aircraft ever made. It’s not something relatively obscure like [insert a significant percentage of currently available DCS aircraft]. I think the sales would still be pretty dang high. I would gladly pay more money for Heatblur to continue to develop later versions of the F-14. Would love to see the sales figures of the F-14 vs. the Viggen...
  4. The 54A Mk60 appears to be ballistically superior. Personally, since switching from the C Mk47, my pk has probably increased from 30% to 75-80% without changing anything except which variant I was using.
  5. Possible the hook skipped over the wire. The pitching carrier deck can easily turn a 3 wire approach into a bolter. So yes, it’s possible for ACLS to miss one of the wires. Definitely better than a ramp strike, though.
  6. I understand that people have different reasons for wanting different versions/blocks, but personally I was excited about having the most modern jet conceivably possible in DCS. And apart from Sniper, aren’t the differences between the 2007 F-16 and later ones just software based? Is that a surmountable problem?
  7. So conceivably software changes alone for added functionality wouldn’t be an issue for ED? Or the opposite? One of the selling points of the DCS Viper for me has been the understanding that it would be the most modern aircraft ED could create. Maybe it will be regardless.
  8. These are shipping, correct? How do we know when we'll be able to buy? (I know my position on the list, just not sure which orders have already been fulfilled) Thank you!
  9. I’ve been crashing as well, on the second non-helicopter mission (Pontiac 9 SAR flight). Can’t wait to play all the way through, though - I really love what I’ve been able to play so far.
  10. This is really disappointing news
  11. Guns only practice with "Excellent" AI - doesn't mean much, but still liked this shot :)
  12. That looks pretty awesome, although I should probably stick with a twin throttle for versatility (and just leave one of the throttle levers unmapped for single engine aircraft like the F-16).
  13. Before getting started, I want to point out that my current hardware/accessories are in my signature. I also have the Delta Sim add-on for the Warthog throttle arriving this week. I also have a 7.5cm extension by Sahaj. And not to sound like an ass, but as far as price, I'm not worried about that in regard to the VKB and Virpil offerings (although Brunner would definitely be out of my price range at the moment). I've already sunk a lot into my DCS setup, so I may as well just continue :joystick::pilotfly: If it helps in making recommendations, I should clarify that I am intending to spend most of my time in the DCS F-18 and F-16 modules in the near future. So the question is, where do I go from here? Virpil base, VKB base? (in an ideal world, I would hold out for a new generation FFB, but that doesn't look reasonable any time soon). I like the Warthog Throttle quite a lot, but it does seem a bit limiting for more complex aircraft like the F-18 and upcoming F-16. Same for the Warthog stick, although it sounds like various companies - including Thrustmaster - are working on easily swappable options. Or do I just shut up and consider purchasing some button boxes? (As of now, I have 4 Cougar MFDs and small LCD panels for them). Thank you!
  14. Not showing any servers in the DCS multiplayer server list. I'm on the open beta, and I've done an integrity check to no avail. Any thoughts?
  15. Thank you! I’ll give it a go. My only concern is my internet connection at present (Ping is good, but given the nature of my ISP, I might still be laggy). Will I know pretty quickly (eg getting kicked)?
  16. Are there any servers in which I can practice guns only?
  17. How much does Restrict Afterburner help? If it saves them a couple thousands pounds of fuel, then that would still be pretty significant.
  18. First things first: if you’re using pedals, make sure they are mapped correctly and that the brakes aren’t reversed. I initially tried using my same lua file from the A-10C, and I had that issue. I would also suggest changing your throttle curve depending on which flight stick/throttle you’re using. Lastly, when you get lined up with the cat, for the first few tries I went to outside view with F2, positioned the camera where I thought it would be most helpful for the alignment, and then dropped my nose/extended the strut (both happen together in DCS). Don’t forget that doing so disables nosewheel steering. Also don’t forget to depress the default “U” keybinding to link up with the cat. I hope that helps :)
  19. This. Once I learned not to exceed 15 units AoA, I have been able to consistently trash the “Excellent” AI in 2v1 guns only engagements. Obviously that’s not against human pilots, but still - feels good lol:lol:
  20. Awesome! I’m sorry if I missed this, but is there a download link?
  21. Boom. This. Exactly what I’ve been saying lol
  22. Is this something ED is working on? I would absolutely throw money at ED or a third party DCS dev to work on a dedicated EW aircraft. EW has become increasingly important in warfare, and that importance is only going to continue to increase. DOD’s recognition of this alone should make this quite clear. DCS, by its own name, intends to be as close to an air combat simulation as possible. Given this, and the centrality of EW to past, present, and future air operations, robust EW implementation should absolutely be a priority. From a gameplay standpoint alone, it adds a whole new level of depth, and new ways to play - unlike something potentially game breaking like AESA.
  23. Hmm...I only mentioned a few places in Indo-Pacific, and it seems like most folks have covered Europe and the Atlantic pretty well... Maybe I’m still wrong, but given the sheer size of the Pacific, my money is still on that theater. Or, at least, I hope so.
