  1. I've finally finished (for now) a complete overhaul of my startup checklists. These are intended for realistic but quick startup, that skips steps which are unnecessary in DCS. I've got checklists for the A-10C, A/V-8B, F-14, F-16, F/A-18, JF-17, L-39, Mirage 2000, and Mi-24P. You can download them all here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3314229/

  2. Little known variant of the Vulcan cannon which fires miniature felines (catlings) that tear the enemy apart with their claws. Pretty sure using it against ground targets is considered a war crime by most nations, but the US of course didn't sign that treaty.
  3. My next campaign is about 75% done. It'll be an Operation Inherent Resolve inspired campaign for the Viper over Syria. Fully voice acted, and with some missions that are different depending on the players performance in previous missions.
  4. This is something of a DCS-ism right now. I real life, INR is Inertial mode, it keeps the pod pointing in the same place by relying on the aircraft's navigation system and motion sensors. It's a system that will always work, but it's not extremely effective. In real life, it will drift or shake. Scene mode uses image analysis of the area inside the brackets to keep the pod looking in the same place. This results in a more stable track of the area, but requires a consistent view of the area. In DCS right now INR works too well, so both are essentially just as effective.
  5. This is showing you that Easy Communication is turned on for your local system, but that the mission is not set to enforce this setting on anyone else that plays it.
  6. It certainly should. I've not had any reports of issues lately.
  7. The US did buy the Durandal, but only ever integrated it with the F-111 and F-15E, and I think only the F-111 ever flew with it operationally. I'm not sure any nation uses them on F-16s, actually.
  8. I'd be pretty surprised if it were more than a few inches off at most, and it's probably more accurate than that. Considering we've heard that damage to the horizontal stab is a major concern for the inboard Mav on a LAU-88, this matches expected reality well. Indeed, and that's why separation testing is so important. Though a Maverick will pretty much go straight or not at all, since it's launched on a rail.
  9. The first mission you play is technically Mission 0, it's a prologue and was one of the last missions I wrote. So which mission is "2" depends on how you're counting. The mission that's named as Mission 2 is the third mission of the campaign.
  10. Got it. There is still another way to work around that a bit easier. Rather than mapping everything to keyboard shortcuts per-module and having to change JG profiles when you change aircraft, you can remap everything to vJoy virtual device button presses. That will let you use layers to manipulate your physical device however you want and emulate a virtual device with more buttons, or multiple devices with more buttons, and still map everything on a per-module basis in DCS.
  11. Yah, I'd also recommend binding everything in DCS. Unless you want to do some extremely complex control mapping with multiple layers or something. It's far easier to just have DCS handle all your bindings for you in-game and then you'll never need to switch anything when you swap jets. DCS has one of the best control mapping systems of any flight sim I've used, it's actually easier than using Joystick Gremlin. If you'd like to backup your control files, or transfer them to another computer, they are saved as .lua files at {username}/Saved Games/DCS[.openbeta]/Config/Input/ in folders by module and then control type. Pasting these files into this directory on any computer will instantly transfer all your bindings over, and can be used to move all your control bindings over from Stable to Open Beta as well.
  12. The SCS is difficult to simply diagram, or make a chart like those for the Warthog, because it is extremely context sensitive. What it does depends on what page is currently Priority, and on which DDI that page is. I've got an illustrated guide to all Hornet HOTAS commands here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/51703800 It's not completely up to date (I should do that...), but it'll get you 98% there.
  13. With the gun selected, as well as in CCIP mode with bombs, the TGP will be locked to the aiming cursor. The aircraft can use laser ranging to increase the accuracy of the sight, plus the TGP can be used as a bombsight, and can also be used to capture footage of your attack for post-flight review and BDA. If you want to return the pod to being slew-able, deselect the gun from the SMS page.
  14. This is functioning correctly now. When doing a stationary normal alignment, max should be /10. EIA is not modeled, but would require moving the jet multiple times to face different directions to achieve /6.
  15. Wow, that looks nice, but it's hella expensive. The Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs may not be exact replicas of a Hornet, but they work great and are a lot cheaper.
  16. Yes. Modern CF-18s, like the Super Hornets, have three full-color displays.
  17. I do not believe that is a currently enforceable option. You can set it to Not Installed, and I think that's it. Unless there's some way around it using lua I'm not aware of, which is entirely possible.
  18. You can always skip a mission and move on. So long as you end the mission without dying you can advance in the campaign.
  19. Yah, that was a bitch of a time the last time I play tested it too. Hornet's radar is having issues. AIM-9 shots from the rear are a good tactic, they don't seem to defend against them if the missile is fired from the read quarter. It's also possible to lock helos with Mavs. Otherwise the best tactic I found was to fly super low, lower than the helos, pass right under them and squeeze the gun trigger as the funnel passes through the helo.
  20. This is up to how the mission designer programmed the mission. Usually, you will need to land back at the airbase you took off from. Some missions include a dedicated divert field you can land at to complete the mission. Some missions (like all of mine) do not require the player to land at all.
  21. Official answer: no, it is not required for the campaign, and you can easily complete the campaign without ever tanking. There is a tanker airborne in most missions for you to use if needed. It should not be necessary though unless you've burned way more gas than expected, I've completed every mission in the campaign many times without tanking. You also do not need to return and land to complete the mission. Once you get the "MISSION COMPLETE" message, you can end the mission at any time, even if you don't have enough gas to make it back. So you'd really only need to tank if you somehow run out of gas before completing your mission. One long mission with a higher chance of requiring a refuel also has a land base along the path with the option of landing for a refuel rather than tanking. Though, I am also in the "tanking is therapeutic" camp. It's a nice pure skill challenge that's rewarding to complete, and no one is actively trying to kill me.
  22. From your link: Not in use by the US Navy or Marines. So it will not be added to the DCS Hornet.
  23. One thing to clarify: there is no "HOB Mode." You're in Missile Override Mode with an AIM-9X selected. That section in the HUD is showing you the currently selected weapon (AIM-9X = High Off Boresight or HOB, AIM-9M = Short Range Missile or SRM, AIM-120 = Medium Range Missile or MRM) and the number on board, in this case 4. The radar in Missile Override Mode should work the same way as in the basic A/A mode.
  24. The Scorpion HMD can display color and raster video (TGP footage). Both are things that the older JHMCS on the Hornet and Viper can't do.
  25. To be specific, 48 knts is the lowest speed the pitot-static system in the aircraft is able to accurately read airspeed. TAS and GS are both driven by the INS/GPS system, so they will read lower speeds.
