It depends entirely on how the mission designer built the mission. Typically you either need to complete your mission objectives, or complete your mission objectives and land at your home base or a designated divert airfield. I don't believe I have ever played a mission that requires you to taxi, park, or shut the plane down to complete the mission. It's certainly possible to write a mission to require that, but it would be really unusual.

The primary cause of this bug was fixed some time ago, around when 2.7 was pushed to Stable. Are you currently having a problem?

I don't believe the AWG-9 is capable of AMRAAM guidance. We'd need an F-14D with the APG-71 to even have a shot at a plausible integration.
-
Huh! I've never noticed that. The missing fin on the right side AMRAAM always bugs me though.

correct as is Ligths AOA and NWS indicators
Bunny Clark replied to Sniper29's topic in Bugs and Problems
They are very, very, bright when viewed with NVGs, effectively wiping out an entire portion of your vision. They are largely redundant anyway. Especially the AoA Indexer, which is the worst offender at night, displays less useful information than the HUD and is valuable mostly as a standby instrument. I usually just leave it off at night. -
There were images some time ago of the JPF 3D model being in the game, so I think it's pretty clear at this point that it'll be added for all JDAMs at some point in the future. As you said, probably as the only option.

It'll depend a bit on how the mission builder set up the campaign for scoring. When you complete a mission and get the debriefing screen, look for the "Results" number, which will be in the top center section of the screen. If that number is below 50 and you accept the mission results, you will be returned to the previous mission (the one before the one you just flew). If it is exactly 50 you will need to refly the mission you just played. If it is above 50 you will progress to the next mission. Once seeing your results in the debriefing screen you will have three options: ACCEPT will save your results and move you to the next mission depending on what that result number was, as described above. REFLY will immediately restart the mission. CANCEL will close the campaign without saving the results of the mission you just flew, allowing you to come back and try again later.

You can glean this info from a few sources. Usually the earliest indication is the RWR, if you can corollate an RWR contact with a radar contact, you can make a pretty good guess about what it is. Turning on RWR hits on the Attack Radar page makes this a bit easier. You can also check to see if any there's any datalink info on type, which you can access on the SA Page. Or try to get an NCTR print with your own radar, for which you need to be in STT. I think it effects when the missile goes active in DCS. I don't think the effects are fully modeled in game compared to real life, but several people have anecdotally sworn that changing the size to small has significantly increased the Pk for them. It may be placebo, I can't say with any certainty, but it may well do something.

MAV in VIS mode: re-initiate ground stabilization after break lock?
Bunny Clark replied to Donglr's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
The proper technique when in Break Lock mode is TMS Down and then re-acquire. In both VIS and PRE I believe that with TMS Down the Maverick seeker will re-position to the commanded reference point: either the HUD TD Box in VIS or the TGP/FCR designated point in PRE. Currently in DCS, it doesn't do this. -
Derp, you're right. Sorry. Been flying the F-16 too much recently.
-
You can also long press the RAID/FLIR FOV button on the throttle.
-
As Swift said, that certainly looks like the HMD elevation indicator, but the cross is missing. Have you made adjustments to your HMD blanking settings in the jet?
-
It's very rough right now. Eventually all the jets will get a complete damage model overhaul and will be far more detailed.

not planned or correct for version CFT for F-16.
Bunny Clark replied to Das Feuer's topic in Wish List
USAF F-16s do not have the plumbing necessary to mount CFTs. Some other nations do, but none in the US. US F-16s always carry two fuel tanks into combat. Combat missions are simply never flown with all 4 wing stations loaded with ordnance, it not's practical, and individual jets are never expected to hit that many targets in a single sortie anyway. That's what wingmen are for. -
JHMCS AG mode removed from planned systems?
Bunny Clark replied to Furiz's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
That's not really true. JHMCS is a display more than a system. It doesn't have sensors other than the helmet motion sensor, what it's capable of is a factor of what the display can process and render, and what information the aircraft's computer can pass to it. The Hornet can display RWR info on the HMD, for example, which I don't believe the Viper is capable of since it's computers don't interact with the RWR in that way. I'm pretty sure both are fully capable of displaying A/G info though. I'd expect anything that the aircraft knows how to display on the HUD can be displayed in the HMD. -

Links on the first page take you to the User Files for each version, both of those have been updated. Hit Download and you'll get 2.8. -
Oil In The Water SP & CO Campaign
Bunny Clark replied to Bunny Clark's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Both variants of the campaign have new versions published. Version 2.8: -Adjusted all chaff and flare loads to 60/60 -Eliminated all single-missile AMRAAM loads on wing stations since they're silly now. -Changed Mission 14 to use SLAM-ER. -Changed Mission 5 co-op mission to have the wingman use the human weapon load rather than the stupid AI weapon load. -Fixed a few single player missions that were accidentally saved with the co-op versions. -Set supported game in User Files to DCS World 2.7. -
As rob10 said, check that you have Easy Communication disabled (Options > Gameplay), as that will cause your radios to automatically tune for whatever you select and completely negate radio management. In the mission editor you can edit 20 channels for each radio. The others are pre-defined and cannot be edited. Manual (M) is intended for inputting a radio frequency without overriding any of your pre-programmed channels. In the Hornet both radios are identical and have the same V/UHF frequency range. Channel selection is done by rotating the knob underneath the relevant radio channel display on either side of the UFC. Heard by whom? You will hear any radio messages you broadcast yourself, you can always hear yourself. Whether or not the right person can hear you on the other end depends on if you have the proper frequency selected and key the correct radio. Make sure you're using the COM1 and COM2 transmit buttons and not the generic DCS com button, which only has a limited use in the full fidelity modules. Correct. If you have Easy Communications turned off, only the people on the radio you broadcast on will be able to hear you. DCS models both distance and line of sight limitations for radio communications. You will not be able to communicate with someone if they are beyond the max range of either your or their radio transmitter, determined by the broadcast power, or if they are on the other side of a solid object, like a mountain. It means that station is unavailable for your to communicate with. There are several reasons for that to happen. There aren't strictly any communications that are mandatory unless the mission designer makes them. On a ground base the tower will automatically give you taxi clearance once you start moving. Then I will usually request takeoff clearance once holding short of the runway. I usually call inbound to an airbase at about 30 miles out, same with an aircraft carrier, and request landing when I turn final to an airbase. Weapons release radio coms isn't modeled at all in DCS right now.

There are two things going on here that are important. You are correct mechanically, but going in the wrong direction with your thinking. The first point is a pedantic one, and that is there is a difference between mechanical neutral and aerodynamic neutral. Just because all the symmetrical trims have been reset to their baseline "0" values does not ensure that the aircraft will fly straight and level. The purpose of the T/O Trim button is to configure the jet to a known baseline trim setting while on the ground. Those baseline settings are then modified based on aircraft gross weight and any asymmetrical stores to ensure that an aircraft makes as stable a transition as possible from a non-aerodynamic state (resting on the ground) to an aerodynamic state (flying). Once the aircraft is flying, there is no point in resetting those trim values because you no longer have to make that transition, you're already flying. Which brings me to the main point: fly the damned plane. The primary problem with wanting some kind of trim reset in flight is one of mindset. If you drop a bomb and the plane is now rolling left you should not be considering what the specific aileron roll values are nor hunting for a way to reset them to some mathematical mechanical neutral. Just trim the plane until it stops rolling. The T/O Trim button is useful because when on the ground you don't know the aerodynamic state of the aircraft so you have to guess. When you're flying you do know the aerodynamic state of the aircraft so you don't have to guess. Trim the plane until it flies the way you want it to, that's your neutral position, it doesn't matter what the FCS Page says. Wanting some kind of trim reset button is looking backwards to try to solve a current problem when you should just be flying the plane.

In that incredibly unlikely scenario, it's not like someone just needs to flip a switch to enable Harpoon capability on all USAF Vipers. It would take more time and effort to write new software to merge Harpoon code with the existing Block 50 CCIP codebase and distribute it to the relevant aircraft than it would to just move assets that are ASM capable into position. The US has also had significant success using LGBs in anti-ship warfare with Iran in the past. That's a more difficult proposition against a modern missile armed surface combatant, but if the F-16 can get in a position to employ a bomb the result will be very effective.
-
Yup, Harpoon integration was actually started as a USAF project, and was partially completed. Ultimately the USAF decided that anti-shipping was not a role the F-16 was ever likely to carry out in US service and the program was ended before the aircraft was certified to carry it. Eventually, seeing an opportunity in the foreign market, Lockheed completed the integration and software modifications themselves in order to add Harpoon as a possible feature for other customers. Several foreign customers have ordered F-16s with Harpoon capability, a few of them are Block 50s, but none are identical to USAF Vipers nor are they running the same software suite. I think USAF Vipers could carry it with "just" a software upgrade. That's a more complex task than it sounds like though, as the USAF jets are running a pretty different software suite than any of the foreign jets, and test and deployment of a new software "tape" is not trivial. I'm not sure what kind of pinch the USAF would be in that would even inspire them to attempt such a thing. Harpoon is a legacy weapon at this point, better options are available from multiple platforms. If a ship needs sinking by an aircraft the job is going to fall to a Navy or Marine Hornet, a Navy P-8, or a USAF B-1.

Like I said in the similar thread about the Hornet, I like both equally. But, these are the things I prefer about the Viper: Cockpit visibility. Poweeeeeeeeeer. All the displays are full color. And the blue and white is sexy. The ability to swap between 3 open pages on each display with the HOTAS is awesome. The ability to customize what those pages are per master mode is even better. Dogfight Mode. Actually using the separate gun trigger and weapon release to it's full potential in a fight. Why the hell don't more jets do this?? Can mount a TGP without sacrificing a weapon station. Super simple and fast startup from cold and dark.
-
Officially: no. Since the max landing weight is always equal to or above max takeoff weight, there isn't really a need for it. Unofficially: afterburner and speedbrake.
-
I enjoy both pretty equally, I don't think I could pick a favorite of the two. That said, the things that I like about the Hornet over the Viper is: Carrier Ops Third display. Color moving map, and overall I prefer the navigation systems. Less crowded and easier to read HUD. I like the way it flies better, and it is less effected by stores. I prefer the UFC, I think it's easier to work with than the separate key panel and display in the Viper, and it's better integrated with the aircraft's systems.
