stupid question: How do you activate reprojection?
-
I'm not sure what's going on. I am running a similar system to yours AND I just upgraded to 2.5.6 and my reverb seems to be fine. 2.5.6 is certainly not as smooth as the 2.5.5 stable I was running before, but its not bad. I'm running everything High on the DCS settings, shadows flat, MSAA off, etc. I have the PD set to 1.0 and the native resolution in WMR and Steam set to 100%. I don't have the ability to get any screenshots of my settings at the moment, but I can later on if required. I followed Thud's VR4DCS tutorial pretty closely, including the youtube on speeding up the general system. This one really seemed to help my overall system performance: Also the discussion in another thread from @Stuartaston was enlightening on system settings.

I'm so glad it's not just me and me imagining this stuff. Sorry you're going through this too. And it makes no sense, because I'm pretty sure I don't have some alien shaped face. My Vive pro fits perfectly right out of the box. On your face foam mod, my thought was to pull the existing foam out (it just has two little velcro tabs on each side that hold it in) and put something behind it inside the HMD and then replace the Reverb face foam so that it sticks out more.
-
And I would have gladly paid a couple of Hundy more if they had sorted it out better. The rez is amazing but the rest of it seems poorly thought through and poorly executed.

No, just the opposite. If I push the headset closer to my eyes, the insides of the headset come into view, if I pull it away I see only the picture surrounded by the usual dark circle, If your too far away, then the circle shrinks. It’s exactly the same analogy of looking into a rifle scope. There is an optimum “eye relief’ distance. If your eye is too close to the eye lens, then you see the inside of the tube. At the correct distance, the physical sides mostly disappear and you see only the picture through the glass with a round dark circle around it. If too far away, the image shrinks to a black dot. See attached pics for examples. The first one showing too close is what I’m seeing with my Reverb at present. You can see the inside of the scope physical body around the edges of the image. The pic with the two scopes side by side - the left is correct and the one on the right is too far away from the eyes. As soon as I pull my Reverb forward slightly, the inside edges go away and it becomes clear like in the left hand of the two scope pics The issue for me is that even with the straps completely loose, I can’t get the HMD to sit far enough away from my eyes to keep the correct eye relief. Short of adding a new foam insert to push the lenses slightly further from my eyes, I don’t know how to fix it. I’m returning my Reverb and getting a replacement one. I’m hoping that fixes the issue and that maybe the foam insert was just too thin. I’ll know in about a week.

I upgraded from TFRP Rudders to MFG Crossing rudder. Wow.

How do these Crosswind pedals compare to the TM TPR pedals? -
Yep, the private co-op sessions are what I’m mot interested in.

Sweet! Thanks, that looks good.

There are several different ways refueling ops happens IRL. The most common way is for the pilot to simply tell the tanker they want X amount of fuel at check in. For instance, “Rocket 21 flight, checking in - 5K offload”. Or “top off” would be the call to pump until full. The flight lead can also individually manage the total flight offload and give a wingman more gas if he’s lower than the rest of the flight. During max EMCON ops, usually the fuel offloads are already built into the plan for each flight that shows up to the tanker. The fighters plug in, get their pre-briefed amount of gas and go on with their mission without any radio calls. Unless its just a peacetime training mission, most tankers have a limited amount of gas to pass and its planned down to the pound to distribute to the strike packages. And while the pilot can configure the switches to only fuel certain tanks by locking others out, that’s not the norm unless there’s either a system malfunction or they might want to keep their wing tanks empty for instance for better maneuverability. But normally the fuel load is managed by getting the briefed offload amount and let the jet’s system distribute it around the tanks for best CG and such. And as has been already said, every jet that I’m aware of has a disconnect switch (for boom ops, not sure about drogue) to stop the refueling and get off the boom when they feel they have enough.

100% agree with this. It would be great to have the most updated manuals available right on the DCS home screen. I find most of the info seems to be mostly WOM (word of mouth) in this forum. It’s super helpful, but often very disjointed to find info. I would rather start with the official manual and then ask questions from there.
-
Haha, that's freaking hilarious!! I guess that's one of the things that appeals to me about the F-16 is that its "high speed and low drag". :-)
-
Even if you take the BVR and SA advantage away from the Hornet - it is still far superior to the Mig-21 in every way and should win any fight hand’s down, fi flown correctly.

That does make sense, thank you. I’ve been wanting to get into OB anyway so I could play with the new toys earlier that everyone talks about, even while in SP. Edit: before I do switch over to OB, has the 2.5.6 performance issues been solved? If not, then I might stay on stable for a bit until it is.
-
Yeah, there are a few floating out there on the net. I’ve not seen anything Hornet specific - but there are some on the F-16 if you search for the correct terms such as tactics manual, 3-3, etc. While not aircraft specific - the concepts are exactly the same. BFM is the same, dive bombing is the same, Sam avoidance is the same, etc.
-
Totally agree. Without criticism, things will never improve. However, IMHO criticism needs to be constructive, focused and as specific as possible. If its not, then its just bitching.
-
Awesome, thank you. I’m definitely stable then as I don’t have the other label. And I wasn’t sure how to switch. Does the Steam OB get the updates at the same time as the standalone DCS get them? Or are they delayed also? If so, what’s the lag time? Thanks again.
-
I'm getting the same thing as tericartman and I also do what you describe and it seems to work fine.
-
Thanks all for the replies. Good stuff. Is Discord a comm channel in game? Or is it a pre-mission planning & meeting place? To the statement above re OB..... How do I find out if I'm on OB in Steam or Stable? I assume stable if that's the default setting as I've never set up anything specific for OB.

That’s interesting to hear that you’’re having the same issue with the eye distance from the lenses and needing it further away from your eyes. I have the consumer version with the foam face pad and I get the same issue. At this point, this is my biggest issue with the Reverb. I solved the broken ear piece (took it into Best Buy and had them fix it) temporarily until my replacement arrives. So I’m living with seeing parts of the inside of the lens edges for now as the super clarity is so far worth the annoyances. My IPD is 64, so I don’t think that’s the issue. It’s simply that the lenses need to be further away from my eyes to get the correct eye relief. I literally have the side straps completely loose and the headset is still being pulled too tight into my face to get the correct eye reliefs so I don’t see the inside of the device. I need to research if there are any aftermarket face foam makers to see if I can get one that is a bit thicker to move the lenses a bit further away. When I pull it slightly forward with my hand, its perfects. But it won’t stay there. And yes the sweet spot for the crisp focus is small, so up and down position seems super critical as well.

Not to get the thread off track, but something has been nibbling at the back of my mind for a while and I wanted to ask this question: What is the Rough % of folks on DCS who stick to one aircraft, hardcore learn it inside and out (systems, tactics, etc) vs the folks who buy multiple aircraft and just enjoy flying them around and have the G-whizz factor? I ask because I have three modules at present (F/A-18, A-10C and F-16), but have been concentrating on only one for the last nearly 11 months and feel like I’ve only scratched the surface on getting really proficient at all the systems and such. Certainly with work and a family - unless you’re flying 8 hours a day 5 days a week - I don’t see how all those with every DCS module available has any possible hope of learning much about them. Yet, I see people here on this forum with 5, 6, 9 different DCS aircraft in their hanger. It’s not a criticism by any means, everyone has different goals for why they use DCS. I’m just curious what the mix of hardcore geeks who want to fly the plane as close to the way its used IRL vs the casual entertainment factor. I admit I’m probably somewhere in the middle. Sorry in advance about the tread drift.

Yep, that’s why most fighters fly on speed AOA numbers rather than an IAS - because AOA already accounts for different weight configurations. You certain CAN fly an approach IAS on final, but you would have to go into the performance charts to get the correct approach speed at that given aircraft weight. The ideal AOA is always a constant for a given platform.
-
As others have said - the stick (pitch) controls airspeed (and hence AOA) and the throttle control descent rate (glide slope). That’s one of the hardest things to teach someone who has no aviation background because they are used to driving a car where the throttle solely controls speed. So its a bit counter-intuitive until you go out and practice it. One of the best exercises to learn/demo the correct technique is to fly the jet straight and level at altitude away from the ground like 10K feet. Get it trimmed up at whatever airspeed you want at a medium throttle setting. Once its flying straight at a constant speed and level with no stick or throttle inputs - then practice how throttle affects climb/descent by reducing throttle without touching the stick. Watch the sink rate, pull the throttle some more and watch the sink rate increase. Now add throttle and see the sink rate decrease to the point where you can almost get it to fly level again without touching the stick. Then repeat the exercise starting again with a trimmed aircraft in straight and level flight at a constant speed. This time leave the throttle alone and play with pitch with very small pitch up or down movements of the stick (<5 Deg). Watch how the airspeed changes with pitch changes. This ^ is what you will have to do when flying an ILS or a carrier approach. It’s the ability to recognize which hand needs to move to correct for whatever is wrong. If you have the aircraft trimmed for on AOA properly, you are mostly making throttle adjustments to maintain the proper glide slope. THE most common mistake is to try to pull the nose up if you’re low or push it if high. If you’re on speed DON’T CHANGE THE PITCH! Of course if you’re both off GS and off-speed, you’re problems are that much more complex to solve. Hence why getting the jet trimmed early is so critical to reduce your workload and increase your success rate.

Thanks all, it doesn't seem quite as intimidating as I initially thought. On a related question, how hard is it to set up a private server if I want to initially just fly with some friends to get used to the multiplayer environment before going into some more involved stuff?

Hi all, I'm contemplating making the leap from offline SP only training missions and would like to stick my toe into the MP waters on a very limited basis - more like 1 on 1 or small group training missions rather than the full global war free for all servers. What additional Hardware and/or Software do I need to get started? Consider me an absolute noob in this regard (I am) so don't assume I know anything about it (I don't). So what do I need to have in place be able to talk to other players online? How do I meet up with them online? Is VR compatible with non-VR users, etc etc? What questions am I not asking? Huge thanks in advance.
