between 36 and 40 I would wager, and I would start on the lower end of that range.

PSA: F-14 Performance/FM Development Status + Guided Discussion
Spurts replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
You are free to disagree with me, but this is misconstruing what I said. I said a good F-14 pilot can be untouchable. I never said I was untouchable. I said I have dominated F/A-18s, I never said it was easy. I very clearly said the Hornet was extremely capable and easy to use, and that the Tomcat was much harder to use but could be more capable especially in a radius fight. When fighting a Hornet I have to use every trick I know in the Tomcat to not die, and most of the time I succeed. Sometimes I screw up something as little as not pulling out of afterburner once I am behind the Hornet and overshoot. I definitely consider Captain Dalan to be a better F-14 pilot than myself so he is an excellent testing partner. -
Deano87 is correct. The racks are integral. It's what separates the CFT model on the E from the one for the C.

And I already told you that I only get to fly once a month. Proving something to you is not a priority to me, I'll spend my time elsewhere. Your "1v1 me, bro! If you can't do that then your argument is invalid." attitude has long since gotten old. -

That is a level flight Ps graph on the left. The STR graph from that video showed the F-14B actually over performs below 0.5M. The left side lag was even explicitly stated to be a possible testing error due to initial AoA for the level speed acceleration run. -

I don't play on public servers, only private ones, and these days I only get to fly once a month. You might want to re-think your hours too. 3k would be over an hour and a half a day, every day, without fail, for five years, of VR F-14 BFM only. If that was true then you would already understand what I was saying. When the DCS community said the MiG-29 AI was an unbeatable UFO, I beat it. When the community said the MiG-15 AI was an unbeatable UFO, I beat it. I beat 4 Ace AI (2xMiG-29s 2xSu-27) in BFM using the F-14A. My buddy is a Hornet main, it's all he flies. He beats my Viper flying regularly and I've been flying virtual Vipers since '98. He has never beaten my Tomcat. There are plenty of pilots on these forums who have similar experiences to mine. -

And your statement proves my point. I have dominated F/A-18s in the F-14 because it can generate much more lift for tighter turn radii, you just have to practice to be able to still control it. You have to practice AoA control, using rudders, knowing when to use cross control lateral stick inputs, knowing when you can and cannot put the big flaps down. In the Hornet the FBW nannies do all the work for you but also limit your capability. The F-14 is more capable, but it is not easy to get and use that capability. The Hornet is a very dangerous opponent and is very easy to use which means even those with lower skills/experience can do great, but the F-14 can do more in the hands of someone who knows how to wring everything out of it. In the hands of a novice, or someone who tries to fly it like it's an F/A-18, the F-14 is more dangerous to the pilot than the opponent. -

With enough practice the F-14 can win BFM against any DCS Module. Period. If no one is using it that is because they don't want to put in the time to become untouchable. -

okay, missed that. No, glitch in the code?

have you dropped any bombs? The Harrier is very prone to asymmetrical loadouts causing issues.

F-14 v2.8 - Jamming, JESTER, and Headless Bodies!
Spurts replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I still see the F-14 as being the best module against jamming targets even if it does have the largest reduction in detection ranges. With two F-14s you can actually get the range so you know when to fire. You have the only missile with a 30s motor burn time. You have your own jammer so you can make them play by the same rules. I see it more like the F-16/F-18 are barely impacted by the fixed 29nm burn through range because they could only detect most fighters at 40nm anyway, less if using their own jammer. Also, wouldn't TAJ-STT give you rather good azimuth and elevation data? And TCS can still be slaved to it? This would mean the F-14 is AFAIK the only module that can tell you if a jammer is above or below you. -
F-14 v2.8 - Jamming, JESTER, and Headless Bodies!
Spurts replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Even at a high level, jamming burn-through range should be dependent on the power/gain of the radar, the power/gain of the jammer, the RCS of the defended asset, and a signals processing factor. ED does none of this. Just like target detection requires sufficient Signal to Noise ratio, jamming requires sufficient Jamming to Signal ratio, with the 'sufficient' ratio depending on the type of jamming implemented. Without making things crazy classified the easiest way for ED to go about this would be to have each ECM system for an aircraft have a jamming effectiveness rating that reduces detection range by a fixed percentage, as RCS and Radar power already account for normal detection range. I get that HB is just trying to play ball. What we DO have is a BIG missile with HOJ capability and the ability to triangulate the range so that the user can fire it off at ~35nm then turn around before their own jamming is burned through. -

Can you share more info on that? It's the first I've heard of it, I thought DCS did a default 40% of normal detection range or something -
and they got the most gun kills of the war for US types.

That empty weight is both old and not including the CFTs.
-
Don't you also need to switch from TOO1 to TOO2 for each station sequentially before the next pickle?

My perspective is colored by me not doing MP server missions but homemade SP missions, so I can do all that stuff in the Mission Editor if I need to. I wasn't thinking about the MP crowd who don't have that option until I read your reply. Thanks for the perspective. FYI, the harrier TPOD can see and target the parts of an S300 site beyond engagement range (I never get engaged outside of 35nm, TPOD sees 45nm) so then it becomes fancy flying time to go under the radar/engagement envelope to lob JDAMs and dodge SA-19s.

Guys, something changed in the FLIGHT PROFILE of the Phoenix AFTER HB did the MOTOR update. I did shots after the MOTOR update that lofted crazy high with no assist. The FLIGHT PROFILE is an ED thing, not a HB thing. HB only does the lift, drag, and thrust modeling. ED does everything else. Once the missile leaves the plane it is in EDs hands not HBs.
-
I don't have this issue and have never hit DATA. Not sure if its related
-
You don't have an F10 map IRL. FWIW the Harrier lets you just store up to ten target coords using a TPOD and the UFC. Move Cursor, Desg, TOO, ENT, repeat until done

Will there be a f-4e terminator (2020) variant?
Spurts replied to Mini.Adam's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
If extensive documentation on the internal systems and SME access cannot be obtained, then HB will not make the module. -
My understanding is that it is not released for distribution. I would love to get the perf charts for the F-14A myself, as the ones I have are incomplete.
